Unconditional Love
22:12 / 25.04.07
I just watched this movie Sei mong se jun and while being deeply disturbing, it was about issues relating to childhood sexual abuse, and a focus on death. The end of the movie is what grabbed me most of all, that and the beautiful photography and edits, but i found the end really emotional. (could be disturbing to some). The coincidence is it fits my mood for the last two days.

Make me Uncomfortable
19:25 / 30.04.07
I had a dream last night about going to a big fair or something and being grabbed by one of the guards on my way out, and sent to answer questions, in a shady, detained but not charged kind of way, and I freaked out about my loss of rights.

And then when I woke up and checked my podcasts, the top one is This American Life's program on prisoners detained in GitMo, the suspension of Habeas Corpus, etc.

Truly weird.

I do HIV counseling & testing as part of my day job. Clients can make up names to preserve confidentiality on consent forms. Last week, two very different clients made up the exact same really obscure combination of "firstname + dead American President lastname." Really obscure. Same day. No connection. One a morning appointment, one in the afternoon. Very different zip codes, risk profiles, etc. Whoa.

I planned on posting this weeks ago, but I was swept up by some last-minute plans and a trip overseas, and finally, things have calmed down some for me to post this coincidence...

After looking for a simple plain diary to keep track of my events and occurances, I decided to just get a moleskin and write in the dates myself. I added moon phases, making sure they were on the outer corner. For some reason, out of all dates, I accidentally penned in on the 19th March in the inner corner. Realising my mistake, I cursed and penned the moon again in the proper place - it was a dark moon that night - and planned to get some sticker to cover over the error, or just leave it as it was.

A few months later... I'm at my work, typing up tv poison for the masses, when I happen on a little office memo: to notify all of us of the solar eclipse that was to occur over us Australians - March the 19th.

I open my diary, and write SOLAR ECLIPSE under the date. (excuse the blurriness)

March 19th Eclipse

I had to laugh and tip my hat to the great coincidence machine.

09:52 / 07.05.07
The other day, as posted elsewhere on the 'lith, I was listening to my friend's iPod. It was on random, no particular albums, and I had no idea really what to expect. I'm about twenty minutes in, and give a little melodramatic and wistful sigh of 'que sera sera' and within seconds, Doris Day doing, yes, Que Sera Sera.

Turned wistful to bissful and let me relax for a bit. Whether the synchronicity was magick is one thing, but the effects certainly were.

this one's lame and involves myspace:

i was just listening to an ambient compilation by members of a forum i'm on, and i decided to take a peek at one of the musicians' myspace pages.

my name is nick and i'm in the US.
his name is also nick and he's in australia.

in my 'who i'd like to meet' section, i have a picture of godzilla.
his has a picture of gamera.

two dorky guys named nick that like ambient music and gigantic monster reptile/amphibian movies. now that i've said that, it doesn't seem so uncommon suddenly...

How about that?

My house has a little inner courtyard of little rocks and potted plants, no shelter from the summer sun, and last week, i found a pink balloon that had floated down there.

This morning, I woke up, rolled over and saw a yellow balloon bobbing just above the courtyard somewhat ominiously, before floating out of sight.

Then I get this from my boy:

Hot Air Balloon Skims Over Abbotsford Streets

Abbotsford street is the next street from mine... woooOOOooo.

A few months ago i was asking about "Rudra". Around the same time, I started asking for information about "Marichi" (or the proper spelling "Marici"), in the Bloodmoon eclipse thread. Recently, i have had some discussion about Hayagriva, conqueror of Rudra. Upon further investigation, I found out that Hayagriva's consort is - take a guess! - yup, Marici!

Been having a lot of encounters with Ganesh lately.

The latest...

I was at the comic store a couple hours ago picking up my weekly fix. The girl at the counter was reading a fantasy looking comic and I asked her what it was.

"Ganesha...its about the Hindu elephant God"

It was the last copy and she let me have it before she finished reading it. What a dear.

I read it immediately in the sushi place next door, then headed to class. Before I left my car I saw some photographs I had just picked up from an old friend last weekend sitting in the compartment of my passenger door. I didn't want them to get messed up in the hot car so I decided to bring them with me.

I looked at the top picture and it was a shot of a painted stone column at Venice Beach.

The image?

A cartoony blue Ganesha, broken tusk and all.

Spider EVERYWHERE.

She manifested herself as a tiny jewel-like thing (to help out with her cousins the spider mites) so I deposited her on the dandelions, where hopefully she is happy.

Someone has PMed me asking for a big copy of my spider totem (in Creation).

Enormous spider thread in Conversation.

Last night - EFF OFF huge spider came at me from the fireplace. I stood up patiently and she ran towards me as I did. Then got fed up and lay in the middle of the carpet.

I should have let her walk on me, but I'm scared of her and put her outside in a pint glass. However, I was nowhere near as afraid of her as I would have been a few months ago.

Last night, purely on a whim, I got in contact via AIM with an old friend of mine from college (we were both officers of the campus gay/straight alliance). I haven't seen him in person since early winter 2003, and though we kept in touch via the Internet for about two years after that we just kind of lost touch. Anyway, I managed to track him down again and we got to chatting about what we were up to, he told me that he was still trying to save up for chest surgery (he's a female-to-male transexual), and about how hard it was to save up for stuff. I agreed, telling him I was still saving up for an apartment. Then he told me that he was thinking of moving into a 3 bedroom apartment, $750 a month, and if I wanted I could move in also (we'd split the rent, $375 per person... I make about $300 a week so this is within my price range). In fact, this particular apartment is only about 5-6 minutes from where I live now, with my parents, so it's very conveniant.

Later on that night, I was watching an old episode of "Fraiser" with my brothers and it was the one where Niles asks Daphne to move in with him (after she had spent about 9 years living with Frasier and his dad). So, it was a nice little coincidence. The episode ends with Daphne deciding not to move just yet, however, so hopefully that's not a bad omen of things to come.

I believe that is the first time I have ever thrown my hands up in exasperation and exclaimed "Is Mercury in Retrograde or something?!" only to discover that yes, actually, Mercury IS in Retrograde, as of several days ago, and will be for a couple more weeks.

I doubt that explains why the server at school cannot compile our final projects due to a linking error in the required library but somehow I won't be surprised if it takes them a couple weeks to fix it.

'Tis true EmberLeo. Very good call!

My computer was going wonky, on and off, on and off, while I was posting my intial inquiry about UFOs. Just bonkers, it was. I am certain there is an earthly explaination, it was just a coincidence - right? Right??

Another co-incidence: I found a gorgeous, art deco-ish(?) ceiling lamp, that i just had to get a closer look at. Nothing strange there, except it looks familiar. Then I realise, I had a dream about this lamp a couple of days ago.

As I am talking on the phone with a friend of mine about an Single Parents network, we are developing, we get on to thew topic of funding. We go through some of our options, including my ability to write great funding proposals, (apparently), and then suddenly I am spontaneously inspired to exclaim, quite loudly, "If you give me lots of money, I will use it to help people!". At that very instant, it started to pour down rain, overlapping slightly with "...help people." Even my friend on the phone could hear it. It didn't rain down money, or anything miraculous, but it was delightfully symbolic.

Oh yes, I have found a four-leaf clover field. Not really a field, but the boulevards, or green spaces in a medical building parking lot. Yes, it seemed odd to me, the insane amount of 4-leaf clovers I kept finding. Then, I looked up, and took notice of the building's logo - a 4-leafed clover....go figure! I am making some luck (or good fortune) amulets with them, using the bottles of Renshenfenwanjiang. (Yeah, my spelling might be off there.)

Also, I think I just found a diamond earring. I may have to try and find it's owner, but hey...let's hear it for teh shiny things! It could explain the rooks hanging around the front porch.

So. Yesterday I had a job interview for a company with the same name as my current employer, but that's not the coincidence.
As I arrived at the building and inspected the intercom a guy walked up and said "Ben?" (which is my name) so I said "Yes!" and he let us both in, we went up to his office and he tried to give me £40. I looked puzzled and explained I was there for the interview, then he looked puzzled. Turns out, it was Catskills records, the wrong company, and I needed to be upstairs- he had just been expecting someone with my name at the same time. I should've kept quiet and taken the money, but that's not the coincidence either.
Today I was asking my housemate what the CD he had on was because it was good, and he said 'Dunno, something by Catskills records' so I said 'Ooh that's a coincidence, let me tell you what happened to me yesterday!'

Weird eh?

At the insistance of friend of mine, I have being doing affirmations to improve my finances. I have been doing so for a few weeks. I believe that these things can work, albeit gradually. So, I was rather surprised to find over four-f**king-grand!!! just plopped into my bank account, unannounced. It seems to be legit as far as the bank is concerned. I am going to inquire at the source a bit more, see if they made a mistake. But, WOW!

I highly recommend affirmations.

I have been having a lot of really great stuff happening in my life, and I credit a lot of it to about 3 years' worth of hard-core, daily affirmations (written, spoken and thought) for career and financial abundance stuff especially. (hard work, too, of course, to help it all along - but a lot of blind faith in myself and trust in the universe to have everything work out for the best, for my Highest Good, etc. I'm sure were a major part of it, in addition to affirmations). And it all just seems to be happening in a state of 'flow.'

I have also had a LOT of what I call 'city oracle' stuff - t-shirt oracles (t-shirt designs with sayings I've never seen before on a shirt passing me by at the instant I'm reflecting on a certain problem or issue, or I look up and someone is reading a book on the subway with a title that is incredibly specific & relevant to whatever I'm thinking about).

There's famous story about Jim Carrey when he was a struggling actor, going out to the Hollywood sign and sitting on the hill, looking over the city, and saying over and over "I am a very successful working film actor and all of the top directors in Hollywood want to work with me." Years later, we all know what happened to Mr. Carrey. He also wrote himself a fake check (but also a magical affirmation) for $1,000,000.00 for acting years before he made any significant cash as an actor. (When his father died, about 5 years after Carrey's rise to fame, he put the check - which he had saved - in his father's coffin at the funeral.)

Here's a fairly mundane but pretty classic synchronicity:

Yesterday I found a wedding "thank you" card sent by an old friend who moved away and fell out of touch a few years ago. Today, I got to work and found that he had emailed me to say hi.

i'm starting a nation sack (kind of a mojo bag for the womens). i ordered some of the basics. i need to find a dime with my lover's birth year. the day my supplies arrive, i go to the store for coffee and sundries. the bill is $19.90, I hand them a $20, and receive in change exactly one dime, of the year required.

now if i could just find one for my birth year i would be all set......

one I heard:
friend of mine was visiting a vintage pornography store while visiting a friend in another city. He picks up a Playboy from the 70s, and out should fall his very own driver's license, which he had lost 10 years earlier.

one that happened to me:
I get a phone call out of the blue from this French tourist who is the friend of a German tourist named Andreas I met while on a short trip to Mexico in 1999. I traded phone numbers with a bunch of people, so that's not the coincidence. We chat about the time we were there, the people we knew in common, etc... and since he's in town, why don't we get together.

sure.

we meet, and upon further review, discover that we know 2 different tourists named Andreas, who had been in this same small mexican town about a year apart from each other. His Andreas had given him the phone number of a canadian he'd met - ends up, it was the same as mine.

we still keep in touch, because... woah.

Funny one:

A few nights ago, my husband and I were watching "The notorious Bettie Page" while I was doing some research for a book prtoject- specifically, I was looking on google for an image of the "woman clothed with the sun" from revelation. On my first results was Bettie...but even better, at the same moment, the lyrtics playing on the soundtrack of the movie: "woman, clothed with the sun."

i've been developing a revised calendar on a weblog over the past year. On August 6th (midway between the Solstice & Equinox), I published my last post.

I typically get about 200 hits a day.

August 6th I got 2350.

and since, back to about 200...

(mind you, working with calendars and historical dates, coincidences seem to fall from the sky like seredipidous rain).

Okay only vaguely relevant but anyway: Just watched the Simpsons movie where Homer ends up with an Inuit shaman, throat singing in some sort of ritual. He has a vision where gnarly trees seem to be pushing him to a state of Ego loss. He has an 'epiphany' and learns what the word means. Later in the film at a key point he is stood next to a tree when he has a real life chance to use what he learnt from his vision. at this point he says 'aah an epipha-tree'. I would agree with previous posts that 'coincidences' are amusing and are often a nod that you are on the right path. I used to look for some really significant event or meeting after a coincidence but I now feel like it's just that, a little nod or wink of confirmation.
Now it gets more relevant... I just had a phone call from my girlfriend who is watching 'Big Brother' she has always said she likes Tracey because she thinks she has a 'pure soul' the program just did a test to see which house members have a 'pure soul'. Sure enough Tracey came out on top. My girlfriend called me to tell me about her coincidence just as I was half way thru this post. A coincidence whilst I was writing about coincedence.

I'm reading The God Delusion at the moment, which is making me argue, in my head, and justify my beliefs. I was just trying to explain to myself how what I think differs from what I was told as I was raised, and how what I was told shapes my beliefs right now, when I get a call from a telemarketing group, looking for people who were raised Christian, but who aren't necessarily practicing any longer. Kind of weird...

So, yeah, just got let go from my job. Not fun. Emptied my desk and packed it all into my car in the pouring freaking rain. Lovely. Drove home in shock. "How did this happen? What did I do?" As I'm pulling into my neighborhood, grant's lovely song Beautiful (Have Another Plum) comes on the mp3 player.

Here comes the rain again.
It gets harder every year
To raise a family,
To find the kids enough to eat.

So I pulled into my driveway and just sat in the car, watched the play of sun, rain, shadow and light on the dashboard, and listened to the song all the way thru. It took some of the sting away (thanks for that, g).

Then I got a call on my cell. And it's grant! We talked for a bit, and when I hung up I looked at the call info. grant's number and the duration of the call had some numbers in sequence that hold a lot of meaning for me. It indicated a cycle of events that I have to cope with and pointed toward a rebirth of sorts down the road.

To cap it all off, I found myself asking Cybelle to lend me strength this morning as I drove in to work. I never do that. I expected I might need a little extra help to get through the day, but I didn't expect to need it so badly.

What an odd day.

What gods are really attributed to the uncanny nature of coincidemce. I read a huge amount of Tarot. Nothing seems to suprise me. And what about all of the instances people have when prevented from getting somewhere or something only to find later you never needed this at all. So often the "Blockage" will hold a hint or clue to the intent that will seem to further link it to a smoother end.

The plant has been planted.

It still needs a little trim, but I didn't want to add the shock of that to the shock of the replanting. I gave it a good bed of compost/soil and gave it a little water. Then I lit some sandalwood incense and welcomed the plant to it's new home. I introduced myself and explained that I would be it's new caretaker. I asked that the plant humor me while I got used to my caretaker role (I have not, in the past, been big on gardening), and told it I couldn't wait to harvest the bounties it will provide. I'm going to give it a while to settle in while I read up on galanga care. Eventually, it will spice dishes and hopefully make essential oils. (I'm looking to create my own oil, loosely based on the Abramelin oil, for the purposes of blessing and consecration.)
