It's astonishing how that baby-no-longer thing seems to creep up. At what point did you decide that 'lil Monk was a toddler?

Oh, and what a handsome, heroic toddler 'lil Monk is!

Really want to get a set of Batman pjs for the Bosun. Or maybe a red set with a Flash symbol*. Perhaps I'll be able to make 'em.

*I am a child

Thanks! It's only recently that I've been able to admit that, yes, he's a toddler. He's getting very independent, and would rather have one of us show him how to do things rather than us doing them for him.

I wouldn't call the Bosun a toddler yet, but now that he's 14 months old I'm also struggling with the term baby.

Babies... babies just don't run around and shout and throw things...

Toddlers toddle.

If they can toddle, they're toddlers. Stop coddling! You oughttle unbottle 'em!

He's grown! And lookit him! I bet he gets scads of attention from everyone.

Actually, he's looking a bit like he's just written a really withering post on Barbelith.

He does indeed get scads of attention, which he encourages by running around shouting "'allo" and grinning at everyone who even half looks his way.

We're never short of new friends on the train.

Wow. Under 2, both those boys?

There's a look in their eyes that makes me think far older. You two may have some clever little troublemakers in the near future.

What's the bear called?

The Bosun has always looked quite old for his age mainly because he's long and thin, meaning that his features have never been obscured by podge. Which also means we were continuously worried about his weight.

The bear was thrust upon us by the nursery: we had to live with it for a week and make a diary of its stay. Then they swiped it back, under the Bosun's nose, and gave it to another child. Cue bewilderment and tears.

I can't help thinking the situation could've been managed better by the nursery staff.

What the FUCK? Who came up with that idea? Are they trying to give all the kids a complex one at a time?

The bear was called Tommy Bear. I am soon to purchase a replacement. It will have a much more imaginative name.

I am bitter about the bear episode.

To be fair, it's (normally) a very good nursery.

But how long til that bear leaves him, just like all the others?

More seriously, bit of a cock up there by the nursery. I feel for the young Higgs Bosun.

Okay, my turn to brag!

My boy's first birthday lemon and some grog for mum.

Loose lips sink ships! If he tells ya, he hasta to kills ya!

YO! HO! HO! A pirate's life for me!

Those go-faster stripes on the shorts make me think he might be some ultra-modern style of Parkour Pirate, running up the mast, flipping out into the rigging and then swinging about the crows-nest bboy stylee.

He has the lemon, but where's the first-birthday Tequila in the first photo?

he Bosun has always looked quite old for his age

Hrrrrmmmmm.

Are you siphoning off his life force by any chance? Only I don't want to have to spike my hair up and break out some insane-fire triple kicks on your ass.

I mean, I will if I have to.... but I'm a bit tired.

Here is little Awakelo himself. 4 weeks and 1 day old.

This one of, if not my favorite thread to pull up and make myself feel good with. So cute. All. So. Cute. And the pictures of babies/used-ta-be-babies are nice, too.

Awakelo is wearing the best outfit evar! It is entirely and comprehensively official. And is it just me or do we have another baby with a proper face, a face you could have a valuable and meaningful conversation with on our hands?

And cute. Yes cute for cuddling.

Medulla, you have the handsome big-eyed child, and you've got me gipping to see the Bosun on stage in a pirate's outfit. It seems like such an important life stage.

What a cutie! Loads of chracter already. And yes, the outfit is lovely. It is hand-knitted?

The outfit! Yes, crocheted, the very first piece of baby clothing I made for a friend (who returned it when they no longer needed it). It is kinda daggy but I love it anyway.

And yes, I think he has a real face in a way that not all babies do, though it is getting progressively more chubby and spotty as the days go by (feeding is not our issue, clearly!). He is also beginning to make incredibly cute cooing noises - first of all at the heater, the glow of which he can stare at rapt for ages, but more lately at the sight of our faces. And smiles! We've been getting smiles! Oh the love...

Awakelo looks quite proud of his outfit, too. Understandably so, but I may have to photoshop a little word balloon into that pic so he can say 'Look!'

Awww. He totally looks like you could put him on top of your teapot.

He is indeed a cute wee lad!

The spots. They can go on a bit, what with the skin being so fresh, lovely and delicate.

No longer a baby:

He likes Marmite.

Not as keen on the bread.

I'm digging the marmite love.

My new contribution to the world, although not so much a Barbe-baby since I haven't been posting very much. Perhaps I may again. I seem to have arrived back here somehow.

Henceforth to be know as Boppit due to his random arm flailing and uncanny ability to be unknowingly making the right movement when my other son is actually playing Boppit.

Also, check out the Russell Brand hair. Curly at the back Sir? No problems!

Chocolate!

She's just started school but I came across this one the other day and can't resist posting.

Mmm. Chocolate.

And Boppit is reminding me a great deal of... I think it's Dylan Thomas.

This is still my favorite recurrent barbe-thread. And you all have such world-weary looking children! They've been places and seen things. They know how it works and what they like (marmite, chocolate, lemons and bears).

Your babies have such full heads of hair! Though I like duck-fluff baldies too.
