Your Bitchiekitten will always be able to find a party with that thang. Skills for life, she is a cool cat indeed.

And monk i think you should let minni monk have a go of the camera and post results in the appropriate thread. He obviously has a hankering and it must be his turn to snap you by now.

Come on the bigger babbies. I'm loving evidence of seasoned parenthood, the ones that didn't get eaten, left on a bus or swapped for drugs. I might try and get my bigguns to pose, but i don't fancy my chances.

It is not an Anne Geddes pic. You fuck.

I digress.

We're been taking the Bosun to swimming lessons for months now, and this pic is from the commemorative photo-shoot.

It cost a hell of a lot of money. A lot of people will be getting photos for Christmas and they WILL be grateful.

....little fucking dippers rip off merchants grrr...

Your baby's magenta!

Seriously, there's some really clear features there. I love it when babies have well defined faces - makes them feel like little people as apposed to little creatures. And that's a cool babygrow.

How's she doing?

Has she seen the fish?

DOES SHE ROCK?

damn, you guys stirred up some fierce dad-proud there. heartfelt back atcha.

yes, she rocks. she's great. been a bit colicky lately but there's this crazy homeopathic crap that seems to do the work. every day there's a new facial expression that makes me think "holy crap! you're, like, a little HUMAN!"

she has not yet really seen the fish, but there will come a day when I dress her as a monkey, then dress her as a dinosaur, and photoshop the two together for an oonagh-double monkey punch dinosaur triumph.

though that prob. doesn't make sense to many here at all.

the magenta outfit is my fave. summer's coming along here in australia, and it's a fierce drought-ridden one, so i'm getting as much time as i can out of that stripey thing before she's reduced to singlets and nappies and then too big for it ever again.

i say it again. oonagh rocks.

Oonagh does indeed rock. And so does her name. Her name rocks!

It's a real shame when they grow out of favourite clothes, it signposts the fact that they do get older and change and will ultimately walk out the front door and only come back to visit on the holidays. We're hanging on to some of the Bosun's in case we have another babon a couple of years down the road, and 'cause we're right sentimentalists.

yeah, we were careful to select a name that she would have to spell for people her whole life. generous parents that we are.

but really - I have to spell MY name for people. Adam. And I have a friend called Nigel who's continually explaining to people it's not and never is spelled N-I-G-A-L.

You can't foolproof human interactions.

the naming thing? now that's a whole other thread...

i'm trying to convince my girlfriend that yes, we can pick a wacky/cool name for the embryo (that i'll hopefully be able to post a picture of in here in nine months) because even if we call it Jane/John people will still ask how to spell it...

We started in on the name thing almost straight away, although the 12 week scan added some ompff to the process. By 21 weeks and the scan to determine sex we had a shortlist of names for a boy and a name that we'd settled on for a girl. Cue a few more days of thought after the revelation that it were to be a lad, but a week later we'd got one we were both happy with.
I'm kinda glad we locked it down as early as we did, it made him all the more real, and made reading to the belly a little less embarrassing. Oh, and it was extremely excellent to be able to be able to greet him with his name when he popped into the world.

Oonagh is a darling, m. Are people telling you she looks like you? Cuz I think she does a bit, in that photo. Maybe the shape of her face?

And sorenson, methinks you and C. need a transitional name for while you figure out names and so on... Joylump? Lovely Multiplying Cell Thing?

I am also thrilled to bits that sorenson and her girl are having a baby, because by the laws of queer kinship, it makes me sort of an uncle. Very excited about having a small child to whom I can read Marx, Judith Butler and Diana Wynne Jones when we babysit

We have one! For a long time now, well before ze ever actually came into existence, ze has been called B1 (when I get pregnant it will be B2). And MD, I am thrilled you will be an uncle too - yay for queer kinship!

I'm a bit mixed on the whole finding out the sex thing. For a start, it doesn't seem like the most important thing, but as C says, it's one of the only things you can find out and we're terribly curious about this potential little person. While I understand the loveliness of greeting the baby with ze's name, I also quite like the idea of meeting hir and then seeing which names fit (though, babies don't have *heaps* of personality at 1 day old, so I guess that's a bit silly).

Anyway, to get this back on topic, here is a picture of what B1 looks like at the moment, more or less (we hope!). How cool is the tail?!

*you* should talk about gills and fishy qualities, Disco...

People have said Oonagh looks like my Grandfather, who looks like my dad, who looks like me. So there's that. Also she was born on my Grandfather's birthday, which was lovely.

We had a shortlist of six names for each side, but her transitional name was 'the bean' (not so original as joylump...). We tried calling her that a couple times after she was born, but you know what? it didn't fit somehow.

but yeah, sorensen. people have trouble spelling every name, so fuggit. go crazy. as a friend of mine said, if they really hate it, they can change it themselves in the long run. And there's always nicknames.

God, I call the Bosun loads of weird (I'm not sure about wonderful) names. For a start there's Bosun (obvs), then there's Little, and when he's angry or upset he's Lee Lee. He also goes by Mister and The Captain. The fact is I actually had to rein in my inventive tendancies as he was failing to answer to his proper name.

Oh yeah, I probably overuse "darling" as a term of endearment. In fact he almost certainly gets called darling more than anything else.

Sorenson, how about going for a gender neutral name? Would that work for you?

sorenson
21:06 / 23.11.06
I would love to find a gender neutral name. The only problem is that if I get too stuck on gender neutrality the pool of available names shrinks dramatically, and it's hard enough to find names that C and I both like as it is! But really, it is a long way off with a fair few hurdles between now and naming time, so I think we will get there in the end.

we've got munchkin, monkey and oonagh-poonagh as our top three, the last one something we're both trying to stop, as she'll get that one heaps once she starts school anyway.

I'm trying to think of gender-neutral names, but i'm stuck! Michael? George? George Michael?

Almost eleven months. Walking, just about starting with the talking (bah is for ball), and er... allergic to tomatoes.

In fact I might head over to the other baby thread, or even the hate and anger, with that last one.
