I like Rose.

How about

Moominrose?

Mono
12:23 / 17.01.06
Chantelle.

Heh. Someone at work already suggested Chantelle! (Betcha can't guess who, mono- here's a clue. He's Portuguese).

'Trogdora' is the obvious solution to that problem.

I think you should call her... er... um... actually, I think I agree with Little My, but it's hard to shorten. Nipper?

Mon Oncle Ignatius

So how about modifying it to Chanterelle, like the mushroom?

Hell, what about mushroom; or even psylocybin (which could then shorten to Psylo)?

Goodness Gracious Meme
12:33 / 17.01.06
Pollylocybin?

William Sack
12:33 / 17.01.06
Tove or Dr. Jessica Parsons.

Come on. Only a brain-fried hippie who fell into a cauldron of tie-dye as a baby would even entertain the notion of calling their dog "Psylocybin".

OR! or!

Polly Jean? Simple, classic, excellent provenance,

Some wag would inevitably decide to dose her up "for a laugh" and I'd have to spend ages convincing her I wasn't actually made of eggs or something.

GGM- that would be far too Yeovil.

oops. Sorry, forgot about the Y connection.

Although I like Trogdora, which gives you Dora for short, which is a good Worst-Witch type name.

Kit-Cat Club
12:45 / 17.01.06
Also anything to do with the Worst Witch is totally stylin'.

(I felt really weird typing that. I wanted to write 'styling'. That would have been wrong, wouldn't it?)

Goodness Gracious Meme
12:47 / 17.01.06
(I think then you'd have to drop 'totally'. Perfectly styling? Jolly styling?)

What about suggesting your friend call their dog Psylocybin?

(I think on reflection I should have stuck to 'super'.)

Meta suggestion (with historical antecedants): call her... Stoatie!

Goodness Gracious Meme
13:17 / 17.01.06
She is very bright.

How about naming her after a very bright woman then?

Simone? (de B)
Nina (S)
Lydia (L)
Cosey/Christine?

etc etc

I still like Moomin.

In Mandarin, there's a fairly common name that means "bright" or "brilliant" -- Hui, pronounced "Hoo-way" (or "hway") really quickly as if you were just hit in the belly by a football.

GGM- so not Chantelle then?

Oh, I like Chantelle, I'm just on a roll with names. Chantelle is lovely.

How about Chantelle de Beauvoir?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

Thing is, there's still over a week of CBB to go... if I end up despising Chantelle for some reason it could be really, really bad.

Stoatie.

Name Her Pirate.

I thought of Pirate... then (obviously) Bandit...

...still not entirely ruled either of 'em out.

Sekhmet
14:05 / 17.01.06
Or name her after a woman pirate. There's a list here!

Grace O'Malley would be a good one. Or Sadie. Sadie is a great dog name.

Stoatie must have a piratical dog!

Sekhmet
14:07 / 17.01.06
OMG, there was a lady pirate called Charlotte Badger.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

I already know a dog called Sadie!

Shrug
14:12 / 17.01.06
Granuaile? Grainne Mhaoil shurly.

As well as Moominvalley, there's a treasure trove of good names from the Narnia catalogue too.

Tim Tempest

Call it: The Samaritan.

That's a badass name.

Triplets

I reckon Captain would be a great name for a dog. Piratey too!

modern maenad
14:48 / 17.01.06
OOH ooh, I am combining themes as we speak:

Call her Bandit Queen, after Phoolan Devi (aka Bandit Queen), she was a kick ass rapists nightmare of a bandit.

or,re: the shopping assistance of earlier today, how about

Stoatie's Little Helper?

Mon Oncle Ignatius

Re: Captain - heh - if she were called that, you would have to say "Aye, Aye" a lot. Of course she would have to spend most of her time in a deckchair*

*Gratuitous Pink Dots reference, but this is a Stoatiepuppy we're discussing.

[Actually, now I'm thinking along Dotty lines, how about: Marmalade? Cheradarama? Shame she's not male, 'cos then there would be Malachai too... how about altering that to Malarky?]
