The whole concept is just... gahhh. The tying of things like the MJ statuette into an expression of healthy male sexuality, I mean. Man, if I went back to a guy's house for naked fun and saw that on his shelf, my thighs would clang together like a mausoleum door.

As a man, I like it.

And if I could be persuaded that there was any truth in that generalisation--that men in general are fond of looking at bent-over ladies doing their man's laundry in a sexy sexy way, I'd be looking to buy a log cabin in the woods about now.

That last post you made in Scary Sexy Stuff was superb if that's what you mean. You might not actually be protecting people from the nasty gender stuff Troy's coming out with in that thread, but if so that's because providing such protection just isn't possible via conversation - that sure as heck isn't on you.

XK, I think you comments in that thread have all been on the money and you needn't think you have expressed yourself with any lack of clarity or failed to address any issues.

Of course, whether the poster who made the unwelcome comments accepts what you have to say and modifies his outlook any as a consequence has yet to be seen, but I don't consider that your problem even if it is conceivably a problem for the forum mods (and I'm not qualified to say if it is or isn't).

Same recent developments in the Scary Sex thread that got everybody else. Except, I noticed the poster had been around awhile and still is just blatantly playing the I am a man/stop looking at my man-meant things with your funny gurl-eyes stuff, and it's, um, I mean... has that ever actually worked anywhere on Barbelith?

And nobody actually needs to play devil's advocate, do they? Advocate for the devil, sure, but playing devil's advocate hasn't hit me as much but a frustrating waste of time. Even, when the person invoking the phrase means it as it's meant to mean.

On the flipside, I'm glad I missed much of the mess, because I would've reflexively posted and it wouldn't have done any good.

I still can't get over the way the object of the whole "I'm a red-blooded heterosexual man who eats steak and everything and so sometimes I like a little sexy mysogyny [sic]" stuff is... a sexualised statuette of a supporting character in a superhero comic. It's almost too mind-boggling to be annoying, y'know? It hardly conjurs up an image of Troy as a swaggering cigar-chomping old-fashioned man's man.
