02:12 / 08.02.05
Kids are like rats in cages in school. I think that's pretty much the sum of it. It drives them MAAAAAAD.... Anything becomes a pellet.

now alas must go to bed as her brain is becoming a pellet. and i'm forgetting, if I press the button twice do I get a shock or a pellet? (or just an annoying double posting?)

a pavlovian good night to you all...

Heeelllooo...

my good ear is currently playing host to the 10th Anniversary re-release of "The Downward Spiral", while the rest of me's thinking "ten fucking years?" and feeling all old.

Kingdom of Loathing has once more been allowed to enter my brain.

It enters through the door (like a troubadour), faffs around for ten minutes before settling on a comfy-looking futon and saying "gimme some sugar, baby".

Brigade du jour

Hold on a sec - ten years since 'The Downward Spiral'? Fuck me, and I thought ten years since 'The Holy Bible' was a wrench ... next you'll be telling me it's twenty years ago today Sergeant Pepper taught the band to play.

I also worked out the other day that I was born closer to D-Day than to 11/9/2001. That's real fucked.

Blimey, so you were!

Say, where's everybody else? Do you think we've got the floor to ourselves? Wow, we could do some sort of improvised comedy routine, like on 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?', except without the adjudication of a hyperactive toad.

We could play the game where they can communicate in questions. I'll start:

How's work going?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
23:25 / 08.02.05
Alright, I guess. Not quite as well as being in bed was going, though, that's for sure. And yourself?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
23:26 / 08.02.05
Ah. That'd be "in questions" meaning, like, "in questions", wouldn't it?

Are you asking me?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

It's not as easy as it looks, is it?

My chances of getting 2 whole Moxie points with only 19 adventures remaining today are fairly minimal, aren't they?

Brigade du jour
23:40 / 08.02.05
What are you talking about?

Bastard Tweed
23:43 / 08.02.05
My guess would be this "Kingdom of Loathing" thingummy everyone's been so enamored of lately.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
23:45 / 08.02.05
haven't you been playing Kingdom of Loathing? Why not???

How can I play what I've never heard of?

Bastard Tweed
23:48 / 08.02.05
I went to their home page and the first thing I saw was that you have to register for a profile. Registering makes me break out in hives.

Hell, I only got a ficsuit on the 'lith because it was temporarily a closed shop.

There's a thread on it. It rules. I'm now a level 4 accordion thief.

Sorry for the double-post. I think my computer went mental for a moment.

So is anyone up?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

Up, up and, indeed, up. Is me.

Well, that makes four.

I'm up! Not that it's all that hard to be awake at 8 PM here in Minnesota, but I am up!

A Late Shifter is YOU!!!

I'm here. Probably fleetingly, as usual, but I'm here.

I was just going to ask how the Dickens everybody is, but then I started wondering what that means. Is Dickens just a stand-in for Devil there? Anyone?

Bastard Tweed
00:17 / 09.02.05
I think it's a request for a long, rambling, bildungsroman-type description of the recent occurences in a person's life, perhaps involving the slighting of one's character or a sticky situation over a ten-pound note.

You know. A Dickens.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
00:18 / 09.02.05
No, the question being asked is actually how the "Dickens Everybody" is. What exactly the "Dickens Everybody" is, or was, is still debated by linguists, philosophers and other assorted tosswits, but chances are it was probably some kind of monster, I expect. It was important to know how it was, because I imagine if it had a bit of a dicky tummy it might be less likely to feel like eating people, whereas an annoying itch might make it more prone to smashing buildings.

Never ask an open-ended question on Barbelith; you'll be washing petty rhetoric out of your hair for a fortnight.

Solitaire Rose as Tom Servo

Is "the dickens" a way of saying, "long, cliffhanger driven writing"?

"It scared "Great Expectations" out of me."

Which would explain a lot.

Spatula Clarke
00:28 / 09.02.05
Hmm. Interesting. I'm coming around to the possibility that it might actually be Dickens' Everybody, as in a sort of everyman figure. Although why you'd be asking how the poor child taken under the wing of a mysterious benefactor and brought up as a financially-independent individual (before being aghast at the revelation of said benefactor's identity, natch) is, I'm not sure.

Bastard Tweed

I like jokes about fastidiously specific eras of literature.
