If keggers is on, there's no point in talking about cold. Or snow accumulation. He's got us all beat, up there in the great white north. But, I am kinda excited that we have about 8 inches of snow on the ground here and we'll maybe get 6 more tonight....Snow snow snow.

Oy oy, not two weeks ago, it was pushing eighty here. Then a half inch of snow and ice brings three cities to a standstill. Oy gevalt.

I hope it doesn't for at least the next four weeks. I'm currantly working an hours scoot away and have to get up at 5.30 and on the damned bike, and yesterday I was so cold that the only thing I could feel after the journey was my head. And we are working outside today. I hate working weekends.

Seriously. My region is not well suited to snow, and when it happens, people really get pretty hysterical. I can handle it (ex-Albanian), but when your workplace shuts down, it's damned hard to go in and make your eatin' money.

Well this evening my social life revolves around playing on my lovely mac and getting my head around Alan Rickman playing Rasputin. Which I just find really really funny.

I'm normally not a late-shifter but as this is sweet and gentle thread I thought I'd say hello!

23:11 / 22.01.05
Hello Sally, Chad, and mon cherie Cherie . . . welcome to the thread of absolute sweetness and light!

Aertho
23:21 / 22.01.05
Hello back As a fledgling professional designer, I am working on my mac as well. BTW, where is you at? I plan to move this summer, and I'd prefer to move out of Michigan. Care to discuss pros/cons of blue states and work visas?

Cherielabombe
23:23 / 22.01.05
I don't think you need a visa to move into a blue state... YET.

Aertho
23:25 / 22.01.05
true

Aertho
23:30 / 22.01.05
Perhaps, to stay on topic, what places, cities, regions can be described as sweet and light? Where can one find life sweet/lucretive as well as light on the cost of living?

Cherielabombe
23:31 / 22.01.05
You're so close to Canada if I were you I'd just hop over the border to Windsor, but that's coming from an American Ex-pat. Maybe you wanna stay and fight, fair enough I just joined Democrats Abroad but I'm not sure they do anything other than go to the pub once a month and rant about W. Which is certainly reason enough to join, but still...

Cherielabombe
23:33 / 22.01.05
Not that I would STAY in Windsor, in fact I'd head up to Toronto. But if you don't wanna go that route, Chicago (my hometown) is not too far. Minneapolis is also nice, and has a thriving economy.

Aertho
23:35 / 22.01.05
Ah, but the cold is bitter and the snow is heavy...

(I've actually thought of both those places... I currently enthralled with the idea of becoming a textbook designer in NYC, but I'm not sure I could swing it.)

Cherielabombe
23:40 / 22.01.05
Hmm NYC fab, but cost of living high. This coming from someone who lives in London, so don't listen to me.

Anyway, Alan Rickmansputin is dead, and so is the rest of the Russian royal family, so I think I'm go to call it a night. Night late shift! Maybe I'll see y'all again sometime!

Mazarine
23:45 / 22.01.05
Aww, I missed Cherie!

Aertho
23:50 / 22.01.05
So no London, no NYC... I've heard good things about Boston. And bad things about DC. I suppose I'm reaching for the East Coast. Or maybe inching my way across the pond?

Saint Keggers
23:54 / 22.01.05
Hi all!

alas
00:06 / 23.01.05
hello keggers. We all know it's not a real late shift until you arrive in on your cold blast of air, redolent of some great northern brewery.

So, tonight we're trying to find a sweet, light place for Chad to move to.

Here's the math problem:

Blue states/regions = urban North; urban North=expensive & cold.

But i was never any good at word problems!

alas
00:08 / 23.01.05
Boston is fabulous, however . . . But pricey, again....

Have you considered California? Or Oregon?

Sean the frumious Bandersnatch
00:22 / 23.01.05
Hi, lateshifters.

Yes, come to Oregon, where you can kill yourself legally! The weather's nice here at the moment, due to our freraky chinook winds.

Aertho
00:23 / 23.01.05
Hm. Cali's a big place, and the few places I've been(heard of) are not to my liking. I once spent over three hours in LA gridlock and that was enough to make me want to put my head through the dashboard. Plus, their radio is terrible!

Portland is another good idea, but really, I should be concerned with the job market. Are there artists on Barbelith? Or are you all drunken programmers?

Aertho
00:24 / 23.01.05
Synchronicity in suicide. Wild.
