It doesn't matter hugely either way, at this point - I moved to delete it as a test, to remind myself whether 1 or 2 moderators had to assent to a deletion. Used to be 1, is now 2, so MC and Olulabelle would need a third.

Reading all this, I'm in two minds; should I just scramble my password, or should I have a few drinks and then scramble my password, having spelled out some bloody home truths?

Probably the former.

E Randy Dupre, I'm sorry for being a pain about the coffee. And to everyone else I've upset, my apologies.

You can probably turn the life support off now, mods.

I'd be happy to be a guinea pig, if anyone fancies testing out the banning function.

I suppose if you're going to go out, it's best to do it in a grandstanding, self-pitying, high (lack of) style.

I'm surprised you feel that way, brb, but thanks for the vote of confidence!

I had this idea that sometimes, you thought I was a terminal drag, but now I know that's not true, I wonder if perhaps I shouldn't reconsider?

I'd go with not leaving, myself, but that's just me.

See, I'd actually prefer it if people would learn from their mistakes, demonstrating that that's something they're capable of doing and also willing to do.

It'd make a welcome change around these parts.

I'd be fair enough on keeping Alex's Grandma here. You post a lot of shit I can never be arsed reading, but you also post stuff which is worth the time. You add a bit of colour to the place. Good and bad's all good to a point. Ultimately, I don't see your behaviour as being a fatal spanner nestled amongst Barbelith's cogs.

I see Olulabelle's point, and sympathise definitely. I do think there might more constructive ways to deal with that sense of irritation though.

Alex, I do think you're kind of an asshole sometimes, but I'm not personally bothered enough to think you should be banned. I do wish you would try harder not to antagonize people who seem to be decent enough and not really deserving of being fucked with. I also wish those people could more easily ignore your bullshit. Feel free to fuck with me, because I don't really care. I'll be your whipping boy, because you'll hurt me about as much as one hurts a punching bag.

Possibly the only thing less profitable than suggesting that Alex's Grandma be banned is suggesting that he might be prevailed upon to change his ways. Really, people.

As Haus says, expecting the whole apology thing to be anything other than an attention seeking stunt is pretty naive. Ditto the decalaration that he will leave.

Randy: This is a troll. How much confirmation do you need?

Okay. Password to be scrambled, right now. Olulabelle, Mordid - you've won, I think. You've won.

I didn't say that, Lurid, and I wouldn't go that far - AG didn't offer to change his ways, he said he would burn his suit. I think there's sincerity there. I just don't think that we really have to power, as a collective, to compel or expect changes to these behaviours. We either have to live with them or do something egregious to make sure we don't any more.

Come on, Evil Scientist. Don't be that guy. If AG really has scrambled has password - and there is every chance that he will arrive hot on the heels of the Last Son of Flyboy, Flyboyboy, The Flyboy of Tomorrow and the Flyboy of Steel, possibly as the new Spectre, then he has saved us all a series of long and tedious arguments, and I for one am very glad of it. What's the point of trying to get a shoe in now?

I might be missing something hilarious referencing The Simpsons or something, but Buk's new thread in Convo seems a bit dubious if the relevant Mods wanted to take a look...

You're missing something obvious, although not hilarious. I've heard worse, mind.

"What are the symptoms?"
(He mishears as "What are the Simpsons")

Ah, ok, thanks. I did indeed miss the obvious (and not for the first time). Back to my Wire binge - which I am at least managing to follow.

Can Conversation moderators lock the George Carlin thread? There's absolutely no reason to leave it open, especially if those using it to continue winding each other up are incapable of walking away of their own volition.

Can somebody please delete the completely off-topic comments in this post:

http://www.barbelith.com/topic/28462#post773884

I don't know how the topic could have been made any more clear; it's all over the title, summary, and the opening and subsequent posts. Nobody else seems to be having a hard time figuring it out.

Could a kindly Convo mod or two (or however many are required) please change the title of this thread to "My Thread About Me Which Is More Interesting Than His Thread About Him [PICS]" to reflect the fact that PICS have been posted in it? Thanks.

*Waves goodbye*

I hope you don't take it out on the other residents of the twilight retirement home for the criminally insane overmuch.

You'll always have your gin.

They wouldn't be so cruel as to take your gin away too, would they?

While everyone's busy firing their guns into the air and going AAAARGH, I have a question. I know this isn't a questions thread, but the subject seems to have come up anyway, so here goes.

What's the big deal with scrambling one's password? If you have to take such extreme measures to stop yourself posting because you just can't keep away, I'd guess you probably wouldn't be able to resist getting a new password emailed to you either.
