While I like the newest incarnation overall, I wouldn't mind seeing a few more members of the non-humanoid variety. Also, Waid seems to be sticking to the canon of already established characters, but I would like to see either some new characters or some of the lesser known Legion members that have existed in other iterations (White Witch, Kent Shakespeare) or 30th century versions of current DC heroes (Superboy, XS).

To add what I said yesterday, it makes sense to me that if the LoSH was inspired by "the Age of Heroes", that some of their members would be "descendants" either literally or figuratively of said heroes. It is quite likely that the Martian Manhunter is around. Even if Thanagar no longer exists, it seems like you could round up a retro/futuristic "Hawkboy" or a Tamaranian who idolizes Starfire. Also new versions of Blok &/or Telus would be super keen!

Okay, I think that this particular horse is beat down! I really like the length of the stories and the characterizations (except for maybe Projectra), I just want some new stuff too. Sorry if this went on too long!

New issue out this week - it's interesting to note that this new, rebooted Legion has started to show up in other DCU comics - most recently their appearance (or is it really them) at the end of JSA Classified #1.

Really enjoyed this issue despite the mediocre fill-in artist - I can agree with both Braniac and Cos' POVs...not sure who I want to root for here. more later.

no one else reading this?

I also enjoyed the use of the famous 'adults don't believe the kids' boogeyman even though the kids' boogeyman is of course very real and very dangerous' plot device here.

I'm still reading it and enjoying it quite a bit. And while both Cos and Brainy have valid points, and both are being "slightly" immature about it, I think what Brainy did to delibriately cause this schism during a time of crisis is really bitchy. So I guess I's with Cosmic Boy's Legion.

I'm still reading and enjoying it. I just don't have much to say.

I'm still reading it - but my dileveries come a week later, so I haven't seen the latest issue. I like the idea of a seemingly 2nd rate power becoming used by a full force villian.
I'm really enjoying the book in a simple, not amazing but steady kind of way, and really liking how it's building

First issue or two I absolutely adored... best Waid in ages. Like where it's going now, but am hoping it doesn't get too caught up in the InfiniCrisis angsty grit in the near future.

Interestingly, the NYT recently had a story about kids carrying "Smart Cards" which have GPS trackers so parents can know where their kids are at all times, much like the chips all kids are given in Waid's imagined future here...

Legion is the most refreshing title out there. I always put it at the very bottom of my comic stack, so that I build up anticipation before reading it. Great book.

interesting way of reading your books. i do the opposite, start with excited to read to least excited to read...

yeah, this issue had much more arc plot than i expected from a fill in artist...

i wish this big war would get to down to it already...though.

Kinda. It's the reversal of the old super hero comic logic, the notion of what powers would actually make someone a major threat. It's so common - for example, Forge and Cypher were always cast off as lightweights in X-Men in spite of the fact that their intuitive abilities would give them massive power and influence in the real world.

welcome back Flux! haven't seen you in a long while...

Legion will be completely unaffected by IC, incidentally.

Just read the latest issue, really enjoyed it, it's just plain old great fun. The way that Waid orchastrated an internal fight was very well played, and having Cosmic Boy have an inferiority/control complex works very well against Brainy.

Hi, Flux.

I have to agree, it's amazing how little thought goes into narrativising some super powers. I seem to remember whole chunks of threads devoted to Cypher's potential.

i think Cypher, especially, was the wrong character at the wrong time. i'd like to think that people would have appreciated his powers more if he had debuted in the Information Age. that's probably wishful thinking, though.

i wish this big war would get to down to it already...though.

really? i was thinking the exact opposite after i read that last issue. i was surprised at how effectively Waid's been able to build up an epic sense of scope in only 8 issues. to me, the war feels like it's been a long time coming, but it really hasn't been that long, and that, to me, is a testament to the quality of writing.

Who is the Legionarre with the outfit that looks like Troia? Is there any connection there?

FinderWolf
11:52 / 10.08.05
Star Boy. No relation whatsoever to Donna Troy other than their outfits have stars on a black field...unless and until Waid reads your post and decides to concoct a connection.

Latest issue has a 'crisis in infinite lettercolumns', wherein Waid 'reboots' a fan's confused letter in the very fun comic-book-pages-lettercol regarding the new Star Boy. Fun regular story, as well...still a well-done, solid book.

So anybody check out JSA CLASSIFIED #2 yet?

Power Girl is revealed (for now) to be Andromeda from one of the more recent LSH series. She was sent back in tiem to fight Mordru and forgot her mission (and backstory).

Of course, this may all be a red herring.

FinderWolf
18:51 / 26.08.05
I think it's totally a red herring/lie from the... (da daa DUMM!!) PSYCHOOO PIRATE!!!

I like the fan theory I've heard that she's the Power Girl from the pre-Crisis DCU...the only character left besides him from that "old" reality. otherwise, why use him in a modern-day story?

This book continues to be solid, creative, and entertaining - I kind of wish they'd put a superstar artist on one issue to guest-illustrate to create more buzz about the book, or something like that.

Flux discovered in some net research (mentioned in another thread) that the sales on this book are pretty solid - always good news. It's interesting because I don't hear much about this book (or anything about it) in the comics press.

Who really thinks Dream Girl is truly dead? I like the idea of Brainy struggling to find a way to make her alive again.

and the last issue had a nice backup story about what to rescue when your house gets destroyed.

Matthew Fluxington
19:45 / 28.11.05
Actually, it has had a decent amount of coverage on places like Newsarama and such, and Wizard gave it a big push. It's selling in the middle of the top 100, which is damn good for the Legion of Super Heroes. It's riding a modest wave of positive buzz.

I'm pretty sure Dream Girl will remain dead, and that we'll be meeting her sister Mysa very soon.

FinderWolf
20:40 / 28.11.05
cool - who is Mysa? I didn't know there was more than one Dream Girl in the Legion mythos.

Matthew Fluxington
10:02 / 29.11.05
There's only one Dream Girl - Nura Nal. Mysa Nal is The White Witch.

Matthew Fluxington

I figure that Waid will bring in Mysa just in time to kick off a Mordru arc.

The big conclusion of year one is out today, my friends! I am psyched.

FinderWolf
14:28 / 30.11.05
very cool.

I did some net research - the White Witch is usually evil in the various versions of Legion, right? Or did I read/speed-skim the various entries I read about her incorrectly?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

Starts out evil, usually under Mordru's thumb, turns good.

Matthew Fluxington

Oh, it's the penultimate chapter, not the finale...

Nevertheless, psyched.

*SPOILERS for OYL*

If anyone cares that is.

Just something that I need straightened out. Perhaps someone here can enlighten me. Is it the "Supergirl" title that becomes "Supergirl and The Legion of Superheroes" or the actual "LOSH" title that becomes that in OYL?

Matthew Fluxington
16:32 / 30.11.05
Supergirl changes, Legion stays the same.

Matthew Fluxington
16:33 / 30.11.05
Legion of Super Heroes will not be participating in the One Year Later nonsense. It's self-contained.
