The iron is hot and thus I strike.

Morden

Which leave three random players in quantum-nid.

That'll learn you to mess with powers beyond your reckoning.

I don't appear to be nidded, so I will move us pleasantly along to St. Paul's.

King's Cross, via Platform 9 3/4, of course.

Grey Area
07:57 / 23.09.04
Hmm...despite the opportunity to use the inherent reality instability of 9 3/4, I think I'll play a more traditional counter-gambit of Chiswick Park.

Our Lady Has Left the Building
19:55 / 23.09.04
Stonebridge Park with a hey nonny nonny and a beshrew me! too. Now, if I understand the rules properly, two of the possible next moves lands the player in Nid, while another one allows them to gamble the points they've accrued so far for Bully's Special Prize. What will they do?

I'm rushing off somewhere, but not before I play Boston Manor. Does that put me in nid? No idea, someone else sortit out for me, I'll be back in time for the next round.

For Our Lady, Holborn, stop me if you can!

02:35 / 25.09.04
As I step off the flagship of my interdimensional invasion fleet and casually give the order for my officers to burn the hulls, I consider that Burnt Oak would be an appropriate gambit to play at this point. The hulks being all charred and all. You know how it is.

Our Lady Has Left the Building
15:48 / 25.09.04
I'm surprised at you Grey Area, you're indeed in Nid and the prize is unhinged to go flying around the board, much like that vortex thing in 'The Adventure Game'.

From Burnt Oak I take baby steps to Colindale so I can pop home and recharge my parrot.

Local weather rule, once more, sees debris on the tracks and sporadic power outages on the eastern third of the central loop, so I'm diagonal-shunting from Holborn to Baker Street.

Grey Area
09:09 / 29.09.04
Ha! Baker Street allows me to perform the complicated Johnson Triple Crossover manoever and land me on Putney Bridge, removing the nid from myself and spinning it off into the aether in the process.

Unfortunately it has also cost us the elephant...it was last seen hurtling in the general direction of King's Cross. Perhaps we can pick it up at some point?

Look, both the northern and southern ends of the Northern Line are open right now, via the National or Picadilly Lines, and I don't really feel like transferring off my current track only to let someone else advance back onto my place next turn, so would Colindale or Morden please make their next turn?

Right, that's it :

What the hell is this? Can i play? Do i qualify to play?

Link me to the post that will explain everything if i can play please, i'll be really grateful.

Jack, the game rules are all in this thread here, about half way down, starting after Stoatie talks about drinking the milk of an eggplant and then continuing after my thing about Doctor Doom's line of evil lingerie.

All Saints! All Change! The elephant's impact started ripples in the S/T Continuum that we're going to ride all the way to Unter den Birken for German Bier, Preztel und berliner Berliner (12 Euro, not including Trinkgeld).

Wait. The British Museum response to a Cross-System Jump indcates strength and honours on three separate lines, right? So I'm supposed to cross-jump to Georges 5?

Or is this that Catalan Weak Two-System Transfers convention?

I'm guessing Mordant's gone native.

I'm guessing Mordant's gone native

Indeed they have. No vibrating trousers or eggplants for Mordant.

Meanwhile...

Arnos Grove

which, by the very old side rule I just happen to have recently discovered, and in consideration of the fact that today is an even-numbered Monday, ensures that the use of the Picadilly Line results in an automatic nid for Zone 4 moves over the next two turns*.

*Waived, obviously, in the case of Bloomsbury Semi-Shifts and Backshunts.

Hmm...(browses through enormous rulebook bound in cracked leather with tarnished spikes)...5th October...even numbered year...slightly overcast...Zone 4 nid rule...HA! I knew it. Ahem I play Leicester Square, via King's Cross St. Pancras and Green Park, using Redondo's Radical Reverser Rule (1863). This negates the Picadilly Line nid rule that Tez invoked, and results in a dimensional shift point being created on three random stations on the Circle Line.

And we've got Mordant's elephant back on board too. Bless.

Well, the best way to learn the rules is to sort of pick them up as you go along.

That said, hell if I didn't screw myself just by asking people to keep the game going in an orderly fashion.

I think I can ignore the British Museum backshunt (if that counts as one -- what *is* the status of cross-system play across time rather than space) if I cross again much closer to home and play Allapattah, northbound, toward the Tri-Rail/airport extension.

Mudchute. Which earns my nomination for the Most Ridiculous Name for a DLR Station 2004.

iconoplast
02:15 / 07.10.04
Okay - I'm in nid, but I just want to say that Mudchute is a ballsy finesse. I know the odds are that nobody's able to play against your melded lines, but it's still dodgy. Obviously, if they can, then you're left vulnerable.

But you knew that, and called it anyway. PM me if you're using an O'Brian shunt, because I can never tell when they're appropriate.

Jack Vincennes
11:17 / 07.10.04
O'Brien shunts can only be used (in this ruleset) when the last player to move to Picadilly is in nid, so I don't think that applies here. However, whether O'Brien or not, GA's move was only a semi shunt so I think it's alright.

Stockwell.

Grey Area
14:43 / 07.10.04
Yes, I am indeed alright. However, you have left me with the option to move to Hyde Park Corner, performing a double shunt with optional caboose, and putting you, Vincennes, in nid. So sorry.

Tezcatlipoca
14:11 / 08.10.04
Unfortuantely, Grey Area, that move permits me to make a lateral thrust, finishing my move in a little station known as...

Mornington Crescent

Grey Area
21:01 / 08.10.04
No it doesn't! You haven't made a move in four days, which means that your lateral thrust is reduced to a distance derived from the diametre of Nelson's Column and the current date. That gives you a movement radius of two stations, which means that you can't reach Mornington Crescent. Says so right here in my rule book. The heavy, leather bound book with spikes on.

Tezcatlipoca
21:43 / 08.10.04
You see, I was initially compelled to kindly and ever so gently point out to Grey Area where the flaws lay in his insistence of the illegality of my winning move. However, I then read that he'd taken the contradicting laws from his leather bound and spiked book, and far be it from me to argue with so deadly a tome. So, in the spirit of sportsmanship, I submit to the general vote.

Is my move legal? Or is the spiked leather bound tome right, and my move should be discounted? Vote now, and no, you can't ask the freakin' audience.

iconoplast
08:02 / 09.10.04
I think it's kosher.

Grey Area performed a double shunt with optional caboose, and put Vincennes in nid. This falls under 'Double Shunts with Cabooses fall under 'Shunts following Johnson Triple Crossovers'.

Johnson Triple Crossovers are usually interpreted as still holding their original stipulation that they leave the player open to cross-ruffing, whereby opponents can cross shift two stations provided neither has been occupied by the Crossover-er in the last three turns. Generally this only causes problems hen they're combined with a caboose across lines.

This means that Vincennes would be displaced from Stockwell so he'd have to disband. Since the only possible place he can move to is Arnos Grove, Tez gets a choice of undeclared response moves, by the friendly invite convention.

So Tez has to be within distance, since he's now got the option of asking grant to move from Allapattah, from where he can lateral thrust to Mornington Crescent.

I mean, it's obvious - didn't you see this when you played Hyde Park?

Although I'd be less strident, I have to agree with iconoplast. I too was a bit unsure at first but, it's a bit like one of those drawings of a vase when you suddenly see it's really a negative relief map of the Transvaal Express, I certainly was slapping my forehead for not seeing it straight away. Sneaky move that.

Jack? You say the link doesn't work? Hmm, that's odd...

Anyone want another game?
