I happen to like Crappo.

So ner to you.

Hope you're right about Phoenix. Sounds plausible.

ignoring the end of Morrison's run with Scott getting past his relationship to Jean

Believing that anyone really "gets past" a long-term relationship that quickly is what would really be crappo. Yes, Scott starts to move on at the end of 'Here Comes Tomorrow', but nobody really thinks human emotions are so easy to fix that you can just wave a magic Phoenix wand, lala la lala, and that's it... Well done to Whedon for including a nod to this straight away, in issue 1 ("and I still rate below a corpse", although of course Emma may be dwelling on it even more than Scott is).

I like the hallucinatory fantasy idea - gets us away from The Return of the Phoenix malarky. I have no truck with quick fix heartbreak.

HA! HA! Leave it to Whedon.

I now officially love this book. A friend of mine got issue #4. Hold on, true believers!

It's a lot better than you think.

Interesting.

Marvel.com has a poll asking which character do fans think will be returning in #4. The choices are Phoenix, Magneto, Longshot, and Psylocke. I wonder if it really is one of those.

Would you be interested in spilling the beans either here or by private message?

Spoilers never ruin anything for me. I'm a spoiler fanatic. I have been enjoying Astonishing and I am sure I'll enjoy it regardless of what happens.

Weird. Longshot??? Psylocke? Mags has already returned...and Phoenix returning so early would be a bore, I think. I want to see where Scott & Emma go on their own for a while with Jean dead as she can be (not saying much, for Jean). I guess maybe a Whedon-written Longshot MIGHT be interesting...? (he said hesitantly) Psylocke bores me. But Whedon might be able to make even her work.

It's going to be Thunderbird, isn't it ?
Got to be really, otherwise I'm not sure if I'll be able to control the red mist any more, this time.
And if it isn't, DC comics - come on guys !
Get your act together !
Excelsoir !

No, I reckon it'll be Magneto. All the X-Writers will independently bring back Magneto and or Xorn to show their disatisfaction at editorial forcing stupid plots on them. Some Magneto's will be bad, some will be good, but none will tally with what happened in Morrison's X-Men run. Then Xorn comes back. In all the titles. Then finally Phoenix turns up, says "bollocks to this" and cleanses the earth... of Marvel editorial tosspots.

FinderWolf, you've been reading these things since you were a young teen, right? C'mon, you know that it's Jean. Longshot and Psylocke have nothing to do with anything in the story thus far, and "Magneto" is in Excalibur. It's simple.

If it's not Thunderbird, I'm going to kill myself.

Remember, the solicitation for #6 says "after the return of a classic character, the team is finally brought together." I don't see Longshot or Thunderbird bringing the team together. But I could be wrong...damn I love Whedon.

09:28 / 22.08.04
Quimper, are you spoiling us?

Earlier you implied that you'd read #4, now you're going on about who's coming back, and you seem to be suggesting it's Phoenix.

Nicklas and context be damned
11:45 / 22.08.04
Iceman then. My bet is the Ice man. As lots of people have said, it's way too early to bring back the Pheonix. On the other hand, I said the same thing about Magneto. Damn Marvel.

Our Lady Has Left the Building

Did Iceman die/leave then?

Spoiler big time. Actual picture of who is apparently returning.

This picture is from All The Rage. Supposed to be from AXM #4.

Whedon just loves the classic stuff, doesn't he?

Well, can't say I'm surprised. Whedon loves Kitty so kitty gets a nice present.

I for one am glad.

Besides, Gambit had pretty much convinced me that Piotr (sp?) would be the one returning.

What an ugly duvet…behind you Kitty! He’s behind you! Turn around!! She’s just the luckiest little intangible girl trapped in perpetual adolescence, isn’t she? First she gets to rejoin the big boy team, after decades spent in all those other shit teams, then Cyclops let’s her keep a pet…dragon and now this!

Spaniel
09:11 / 23.08.04
Yeah, it's really shit. It really pisses me off.

09:39 / 23.08.04
Yeah the X-man immune to magic is back !
(oh wait will Whedon remember that , nah i mean what history does he have of using the supernatural in his story lines ).

And no more having him flop like a ragdoll everytime some one with magnatisum appears please ?

Regrettable Juvenilia
11:11 / 23.08.04
So is the page with the image of Phoenix not real, OR are both Peter and Jean coming back, OR is this all some nasty mind-game Ord has set up in order to fuck over the poor bereaved X-folk?

tituba
11:57 / 23.08.04
No, no Bossboboy. I love all of this; I have to admit that I honestly do. I would rather have preferred Magick’s return but that’s just puerile doe-eyed nostalgia moaning in the background. I just wish the fellow with the awful eiderdown had taken a picture of the second page as well. It’s all just so fabulously corny, little purple dragons and dead boyfriends returning miraculously, its all to good to be true. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that both Cyclops and Kitty are visited by their ghosts of failed relationships past. Things that make you go mmmmm…

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............

My gut instict is that Colossus isn't coming back, but I'm glad if he is, because it kinda sucks that he was killed off in such a lame way.

Bringing Jean back makes waaaaaaay more sense.

FinderWolf
14:54 / 23.08.04
I bet the page with the image of Jean is real but it's something Cyclops is thinking about/dream sequence. And I bet Colossus really does come back. People who have read the advance copies say as much.

Spaniel
16:02 / 23.08.04
I understand where you're coming from Flux, I really do, but frankly in Whedon World the return of Colossus makes perfect sense.

This guy just loves bringing the past back to haunt his characters, and God forbid we should forget he's a hopeless romantic (who loves Kitty).

This is the fella who was gonna bring back Tara, fer fuck's sake.

Matthew Fluxington
18:43 / 23.08.04
I have to read it. When I think about it right now, there is no logical way to bring Colossus back from the dead, particularly none that makes sense with this storyline as I understand.

I'm glad to have Colossus back if this is true. Colossus rules too much to be gone forever.

Matthew Fluxington
18:45 / 23.08.04
I mean, Colossus' body was CREMATED, for fuck's sake!

FinderWolf
19:03 / 23.08.04
He was CREAMATED? After he died from the legacy virus or whatever?

Well, this is a biogenetic lab we're dealing with in Joss' storyline...

I wonder how this plays into their using Jean's DNA or body or whatever to experiment on...

Matthew Fluxington

Yeah, after Colossus died there was an (actually pretty good) issue by Scott Lobdell in which Kitty spread his ashes and decided to quit the X-Men and finish college.

ciarconn
12:52 / 24.08.04
Well, even if his body was cremated, there are several options:
a) Sinister had cell samples, and said he could clone Colossus (but Nightcrawler said no)
b)He could come through limbo...(a real Magick-al mess)
c)There are alwasys alternate dimensions (he looks more like the ultimate version)
d)someone could be passing as him...
so, what would be more Whedon?

On the Milenial Vissions 2001, there were some versions that returned Colossus as pure adnamatium...

_Boboss
13:06 / 24.08.04
i thought he should be in limbo, holding up the roof of an entire dimension with his shoulders. he's so cool. maybe getting him back will make kitty quit playing the prick so much.

the bit in secret wars where he's just pulverising the whole wrecking crew and doc ock on his own 'you! you are the evil men who would keep me from my katya! i will crush you!' that's the best bit in a marvel comic ever. spoiled slightly by his shacking up with the alien healer straight away afterwards, but that was all a reaction to his xgene and could hardly have lasted. 'thank god he ain't black, huh?' james rhodes is the only iron man for me.

Spaniel
15:40 / 24.08.04
Hmmm, I don't think we'll be seeing the Ultimate incarnation in the pages of AXM any time soon.

Also, it's worth pointing out that Whedon is unlikely to be interested in gimmicks such as Adamantium Colossus.

Okay then, what do we know for certain? We know that Whedon is an elegant writer, and is likely to avoid any solution that involves much exposition. We know that Whedon likes angst and romance. We know that Whedon loves Kitty Pryde. We know that genetics and dimensional travel have a role to play in this arc.

Finally, we know that character is paramount in the mind of Joss.
I'd humbly suggest that the answer lies in scrutinising the above.

Not that I have any fucking idea, meself.

Matthew Fluxington
17:19 / 24.08.04
Limbo makes some sense, since Piotr has a familial relationship with that dimension...
