thanks Deep fried - I've got that pic - it was on the back of an issue of Starlord - bigger format that 2000AD, better paper stock etc.

And me also re. the pun-gag.

everyone always says that it took years for them to get that - how fucking stupid are you all?????????

14:37 / 22.06.04
Well it's probably because as kids you don't really know who Rodgers and Hammerstein are, but years later, you do.

More to the point, why were you a big fan of musicals at the age of ten?

first one of theirs i read had them both dressed up as pearly kings doing a song and dance number as they trundled spade in hammer into the sunset. got me thinking.

Just another thought that popped into my head.
The cover of issue 3: does that not look look like mummy is taking the little man to bed after a hard day?

What I like is how Chubby drove Bumble-B to Atlantis. "Why do you always do the exact opposite of what I say?". Because he's got a 7-second memory.

So Seaguy's (Anti-)dad died when he was small ("you're probably too young to remember all that nonsense, Chubby")

Possibly his dad was a bit of an abusive cunt and got sent away?

Chubby = Seaguy's pet fish back in the real world

The living thought bubble theory is still holding strong. Like Athena springing to life from Zeus' head. But now he's dead. Definitely shades of loss of innocence. Now his thoughts are on/with Death.

Notice how Chubby has the exact same colour scheme as Seaguy... Fictionsuit?

Ooh, Chubby hates water? Maybe Kid Seaguy nearly drowned as a kid, or his dad did. Chubby = left over bits of phobia/fear/anger or a way for Seaguy to express stuff he's holding back?

i'm probably missing something obvious, but why do the mickey eye copters just fly past seaguy and chubby when they are stranded seeing as how they are so keen to have them disposed of? even if they think they will die in such a predicament surely they would want to be sure and not take any chances?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

They've probably already been told that Seaguy and Chubby no longer have the Xoo.

industrial ship interior, men in gas masks, interrogations, fluid goo.

Black Science 2?

No,

seaguy and xoo!

13:37 / 23.06.04
Yah, as I read it I wondered the same thing about the copters, but I figured what Stoatie said. No Xoo, we don't care about you, you can go die now, thank you very much, disposable citizens/nuisances.

Re: the Xoo script, I was trying to read it, somehow and it does look like some bits say "3xValue" or "10xValoo". Just saying this may explain the pink squishy beast's distress at being turned into a commodity.

Made of children, probably.

I wonder if Todd Klein designed all the Xoospeak in this issue or if Grant drew up some sigils and gave 'em to Todd.

I...tears welling up in my eyes, damn you. Chubby, and...and the lips, and Seaguy's crazy/unshaven look... It's just too much. Too damn brilliant.

The art? Amazing. I'd picked Seaguy as having brown hair, though. Looks a bit Ken-doll-ish. Or Aquaman. And still, I figured the Wasps would be...bigger. And have a bigger role.

Loved the issue, yes. And Cameron? This is some of the best art I've ever seen in comics. Ever.

"Hup!"

Hey Barbelith!

It's that time again!

Yes it is!

Time to say: I'm really, really, REALLY glad some of you aren't writing this comic.

Bigger than killing a major character?

Billuccho!
13:48 / 25.06.04
Well, yeah, that was technically a "big role" but they only showed up for a couple pages. And they were part of the original title for the mini, weren't they? Seemed like they should, I dunno, be in it more.

Really? Really really? Really? Really? Really?

You jibe now, but you and me dude, we could be the Chuck and Austen of Marvel Comics.

I could do it. Useta be an Airborne Ranger, doncha know.

I keep getting flashbacks to Dare rereading this comic - the disillusioned, broken heroes; the world with no need for superheroes and, of course, the huge pink blob of food/fauna that is xoo has echoes of mmmanna. Not that that's a bad thing of course.
How did I not get that Ro-Jaws pun until now? Christ, I'm dumb.

Seaguy's tons of good fun. Cameron, you did an especially fantastic job of unmasked Seaguy; gave him the Steve McQueen coolness, you did.

I expect most people have seen this already, but there is some Seaguy #3 info on the Vertigo site.

I was gonna start a Seaguy #3 thread but I figured its more fitting when Cam starts the Seaguy stuff.

Oh deary me.

It has just been pointed out to me that the issue 3 news was posted in a different thread nearly 2 months ago by the man himself. Cam, not Seaguy.

Please ignore the above 'news' and stare in wonderment at the pic to ease my shame.

15:33 / 07.07.04
I'm thinking of crowbarring an unsavoury 'I often end up in the arms of my mummy after my chubby has perished' joke into the thread.

Can't quite manage it though.

Ganesh
00:07 / 08.07.04
Or an even more questionable 'mummy brings chubby back to life'...

While reading this thread on the I I remembered the EYE headed guys and Mickey eye, and all that. Some had tried to give Seaguy a psychologist interpretation... perhaps there is a lot more of that if we try to see beyond the visual and textual metaphors

I re-read #2 recently and really loved it all over again!! Can't wait for issue 3!
