The one where they go into Jean's mind, right?

Xavier's mind, actually. but, you know, Jean, Chuck, they're basically the same to an old man like you, right? by the way, when your grandkids come to hold your hand by your bedside, do you remember which one is which? do you know which one it was that found you at the bus stop in your bathrobe, babbling about the time you went to see Tommy Dorsey?

Xavier comparing humanity's hatred of mutants to a hand being afraid of its own fingers. Or something like that...

There's a PDF of the 'Magneto was right' image that's just the right size to be printed onto a t-shirt transfer sheet and ironed on to a t-shirt...I look like a total fanboy walking into Forbidden Planet wearing that. I dread going in and seeing Morrison...not unlikely, since he frequents the shop.

My favorite issue, is probably a toss up between The silent issue and Riot of Xavier's part 4! Part 4 feels like an action movie, it's so sweet. The silent issue, to me, is a prime example of Morrison and Quietly being a cohesive comic book making unit! They visualize thoughts for like 30 pages, and they do it so well.

Mutant Town. And Beast's whole gay thing, and his mutation, and his big catbox.

But mostly Xorn=Magneto destroying, like, everything.

Best issue?

Thats a very hard call, given that many issues didn't work without the context of the wider arc and some of the more interesting stories were marred by some less than perfect artwork.

The third part of Riot At Xaviers would have to be my favourite. From the start of "E is For Extinction" Grant always dealt with the X-men as total pro's. Cyclops taking out one of the Omega Gang with a well placed concussive blast (the cartwheel and the leg snap... god I love those panels) is one of my favourite moments of the entire series.
Emma stalking through the riot "Oh for heavens sake! Seize the school and then what? And then what?" defined her headmistress persona perfectly.
The ease with which Quentin deals with the arrogant Wolverine ("I'll just lean here and scare the kiddies... What? James? Huh?") spoke to me on so many levels, "thats just his image".
Dummy bites the big one, Beak mourns, Xavier sheds a tear, "I'm the Inhuman Torch!" classic laugh out loud stuff.

Then the finale, the Cuckoo's take on Quentin (with a little Kick assistance), shred his psyche AND his poor little broken heart but lose one of their number in the process.

FQ took his art to new levels in this arc and Grant gave us a new idol, even if he didn't last for too long.

If you could just add in the first four pages of the next issue (the car chase with some hair raising Beast feral action) I'd be a very happy man.

The Best Thing was how Grant Morrisson went to watch Donnie Darko and subsequently stapled that movie's entire script onto the tail-end of his four year X-run. Donnie Darko suddenly looked like a sullen redhead with a god-entity up her ass. Sacrificing herself to rewrite the tangent universe...no really.

Bruce Timm's fan letter in the lettercol was so cool. How many of those do you see in comics - sincere gushing praise fan letters from respected creators?

Imperial rocked. Ditto Riot at Xavier's. Ditto the Silent Issue (now I remember it, I've taken my Alzheimer's medication)

a) I don't believe Magneto is Jewish. Not that I've looked at his cock or anything.

b) For God's sake. Cretins.

Magneto is Jewish, though I think it was introduced in Claremont's run.

After I posted the quote, I realised that the orginator of the quote was a bit misinformed. I'm not sure of the exact details of Jewish faith, but I know not eating meat is not one of the pratices. Which is why I deleted it, because being misinformed is not funny. And knowing is half the battle.

And now...

My favorite part of New X-Men were the crawlers. Blue, Fuzzy und German accents.

Why shouldn't Magneto eat meat? Do you really believe he believes in the creation of the inferior humans?
And as an Austrian person I can say that the 'german accent' in Marvel Comics is not that great because there are usually several mistakes. Maybe Marvel can't afford a good translator.

The best thing(s) for me where Xorn, Emma Frost and the Five in one. I really liked all of them and think that they really added to the story.

A couple of my fave quotes where :

Emma Frost : "And just as we were learning how to implant deceptive erotic images into the minds of our enemies, weren't we girls?"

Five in one : "Yes Miss Frost."

and Tom Skylark to Rover : "What a bloody embarrassment you've been to me, mate."

I liked the whole setting of Here comes tomorrow aswell, it was a really unexpected end to it all.

Not quite - to the best of my knowledge, the first knock-down drag-out statement of Magneto's religion was the X-Men movie, where he is wearing a yellow star. There were a lot of *suggestions* that he was Jewish before that, however, pretty much to the point of certainty. See this complete if somewhat partisan FAQ - http://www.alara.net/opeople/xbooks/magjew.html.

Quite so. What on Earth are they teaching in school these days? First Rob Frost finds out about anti-Semitism at the age of 25, and now this.

Quick version: Some, not all, Jews eat kosher, that is follow to a varying degree of exactitude a set of dietary rules collectively called kashrut. Kashrut concerns both the forbidding of certain kinds of foodstuffs and the preparation of accepted foodstuffs. Basically, land animals with cloven hooves that chew the cud are kosher, others are not - so, pigs are out, as are cats. Most birds are OK, except some species of scavenging or predatory birds. Fish with fins and scales are kosher - so, Chubby da Choona OK, Mollusc Girl not. Oh, and reptiles, frogs, worms and insects are right out, barring some forms of locust. You rarely need to deal with that one. For these accepted meats to be kosher, they also need to be prepared in a particular way, generally including shechitah - the cutting of the throat by an observant Jew - and the removal of all removable blood by hanging and salting, blood being non-kosher. Oh, and even kosher meat cannot be eaten with dairy.

There's a fair bit more to it, but that's the basics. This may be a bit more information than you need for general usage, but if "Jews don't eat meat" doesn't immediately trigger your wrongometer then, with the utmost respect, there are some books you might want to read not involving mutants or pictures.

(Incidentally, Magneto is portrayed in Ultimate X-Men as a vegetarian who only eats the flesh of Homo sapiens, but then Ultimate X-Men is a bit shit for just this sort of reason).

sorry but i always thought he was jewish based on those stories they put at the back of the ealy claremont x-man reprints in the late 80s (classic x-men i think they were called), there was a very moving scene of him in the camps and his powers developing as he saved someone from a fire after he escaped and his wife running away from his because of that, maybe something about not being able to save his daughter too? i dunno, am only in 90% geek mode this morning.

Favourite ish- the silent, mind-entering one.

And I loved the whole of "Riot at Xavier's".

Probably the one I liked least was "Imperial", simply because I've never really been a fan of the alien races in Marvel stuff, and I found it harder to internally map onto reality than a lot of the others. On its own terms it was very good, though.

(Sorry... my comics are scattered around this bombsite of a house, so I can't provide numbers or anything).
