I am too marshmallowy and too, too chalk white for a bikini, I'm afraid. I spent today finishing recuperating from being sick, which is really more post spring break than spring break, since getting better after a nasty stomach flu is pretty much like trying to recup from the a really foul hangover.

Mazarine
01:18 / 07.04.04
But at least someone's wearing the bikini.

Which will probably help your chances off not getting laid off.

I'm actually wearing the bikini and doing the coke this year.

arhgggh. hope y've shaved/sugared/waxed, dear.b

Maz: looks like Stoatie's doing it for you...

Consider it done.

In all seriousness though, I'm sorry your job is less stable than it was. I hope it works out.

Yeah, cheers... I'm not worrying too much. We went through all this shit a couple of years ago, and I got all stressed out, and it worked out okay. I'll just see what happens.
Something a little more troubling though- my boss has just told me that a guy who used to work here and who I used to go drinking with a lot was found dead at his house last week of pancreitis(sp?)- he was only about 50, I guess, but he drank an awful lot. It's kind of sad and worrying. No-one found him for a couple of days until his local pub noticed he hadn't been in for a while.

02:13 / 07.04.04
Poor guy.

The pancreas is a worrying organ, I mean, it's not one you tend to think about often, really, (well I don't) but a few years back, the dad of an old friend got pancreatic cancer and it killed him really quickly. Aparently by the time anyone notices it, it's too late.

God. I hope my unrelenting cheerfulness hasn't driven everyone away!
Yoo hoo! Anyone awake?

Anyone about? Just watched Dawn of the Dead on TV (the orig. obviously) and had forgotten how bloody glorious it is.

Mazarine
00:09 / 08.04.04
I watched So Young, So Evil earlier today. Quality stuff. Now I'm listening to Korean ska and wishing spring break would end already.

How're you doing, BiP?

Spatula Clarke
00:10 / 08.04.04
Hey plums. Just turned the pooter on from watching that myself. Even though I only watched it last weekend on video (video!) with some fellow fans.

Honestly? I think it's aged quite badly. Either that, or I've seen it too many times.

Evening gentlemen.

I'm good, thanks Maz. Du?

I haven't seen it in years, and agree that the effects particularly have aged, but it's so damn funny. Something about the aesthetic - the look of the mall, how their attempts at cosy domesticity are styled, and the music - really floats my boat.

anyone seen the remake? am pondering, not sure what the point is, meself...

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

Saw it last week... nowhere near as good as the original, but a lot better than I was expecting.

I can't watch zombie movies, they're too scary for me. I've just now gotten to the point where I can watch someone playing Resident Evil without whimpering. Zombies bring out the big sissy in me.

oh, and Randy, I live in a world of video. None of this DVD rubbish you kids are into....

oh and Korean ska sounds wicked, how did you get into that?

Spatula Clarke

I think video adds to it, y'know? Fra Dolcino's parents ran a local Stars newsagents when we were kids, so we used to have the thrill of sneaking into the shop front in the middle of the night and half-inching the splatter vids off the shelves. I can't imagine trying to watch Dawn or Hellraiser with sharp-as-a-pin visuals and sound.

And I still like the effects. There's something freaky about the latex-ness of it all. I just think that the satire's looking clunky now.

It's been a good week for films on TV so far. Night of the Living Dead, then that American Nightmare documentary and The Howling, with Dawn tonight. No more horror, but Jackie Chan's Who Am I? tomorrow and Godfather II on Friday. Coolness.

Well, I enjoy most faster tempoed ska, though I am far from a conneseur, and I enjoy flash movies. My fiance linked me to this video at albinoblacksheep, I enjoyed the song, found the creator's site to see if there was an FAQ, went to YesAsia.com, ordered the band's CD, and it was a good purchase.

I'm coming to find I prefer a lot of music when it's not in English. Maybe I get distracted by bad lyrics, but I still enjoy vocals, I don't know. I find a lot of the time when I'm listening to the radio that I'm too annoyed with the lyrics to appreciate the music.

to Mazarine: I hate zombie films too. They imediately infiltrate my subconsciousn and give me horrific dreams. Its why I am really wary of seeing 28 Days Later, I think it might scar me a bit much...

Mazarine
00:58 / 08.04.04
I still haven't seen it. Probably won't for a long, long time. Maybe when they start phasing out DVD players.

Spatula Clarke

I love that video, Maz. It's the one you linked to in the last Late Shift, yeah? Fishy breath!

I really enjoyed that American Nightmare thing. Very interesting and a *great* range of interviewees

Mazarine
01:04 / 08.04.04
Oh, did I link it already? Eep, sorry, don't mean to be repetitive, but still I'm glad you liked it Randy. Fishy breath indeed, : ).

Spatula Clarke
02:13 / 08.04.04
No, it's all good - I meant to save the link before and didn't fancy trawling through the last five of these to find it.

I *think* I understand where you're coming from on the foreign language vocals thing, too - there's been a tracked played a couple of times on WFMU recently that I've fallen in love with called When The Sun Says Goodnight To The Mountains, from some seriously obscure old album by a band called Tadahuru Nakano & The Nakano Rhythm Boys (you can listen to it on the archived playlist here, about halfway down, if anyone's interested), and the fact that I don't know what the guy's singing about lets me fill in my own meaning based purely on the way he's singing about whatever it is. It turns the voice into nothing but an instrument - there's something really pure about that.

It’s late enough for a shift. The DVD player on my computer appears to have broken (gah, etc), 'though I’m clinging to the hope it’ll have fixed itself by tomorrow. So no lazy movie for me: sketchbook and record collection instead. Who’s about?

Plus, am I the only one who misses bop’s fizzly presence on these threads? Surely not.

Yeah...

oh well.

Let's shift!

I'm currently very tired because I got a copy of Far Cry on the PC today... and didn't get to bed until nearly 4 this afternoon.

What’s Far Cry? I could google for the info, but I’d far rather hear your blurb.

I’m guessing you’re at work again tonight, then.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
22:19 / 08.04.04
Yup.
Far Cry's a wicked FPS set on a tropical island- Cloned Christ describes it far better than I could in the video games thread (he's got further than I have, seeing as I only started it this afternoon). But I'm just counting the hours until I can go home and play it again...

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

But hey! Work's not so bad after all! I've just found out that because it's Good Friday, there's no inancial Times, Wall Street Journal or Lloyd's List!!! Hooray for Christian holidays!

Financial Times. Stupid orangey pinky paper. Hi fellas. I'm off to put a fresh coat of paint on my hair. I'll be back in a while.

Believe it or not, boring though it may be, the FT does have the most amusing TV listings.

Bed Head
22:47 / 08.04.04
What colour is your hair, Maz? I always think of you as being blue, that that’s the reason behind the name. Tell me I’m wrong, or right. Or somewhere inbetween.

S - what’s the paper you most dread reading? Oh, and Far Cry sounds superwowamazing. I might have to sort myself a go on that. I like fps but the last game I got obsessed, really obsessed by was 'Thrust' on the BBC Micro, so it's probably about time I found myself a new all-consuming gaming experience.
