Well, to be honest, I don't mind if Caleigh just posted in the Gathering about the odd thing she is going to, it's her refusal to add any information about the event and the fact she then continues to refuse to do when asked that bugs me. It's like negative enthusiasm. I mean, I was unlikely to travel to New York for a Psychic TV gig, but I'm going to damn well police myself sternly for any hint of transAtlantic behaviour just in case now.

Isn't it simply an issue of being expected to engage with the board and its members if you are going to hawk your wares?

Yeah, I think so. A recent example of this, in a roundabout way, is the Phonogram thread in Comics. The guy who wrote it didn't start the discussion, but he now shows up regularly to talk about his work for much the same reasons that I suppose anybody would, which is a)to get some feedback, and just generally mull over the issues raised, and b)hopefully to encourage more people to buy the thing. I would guess (although I'm not sure) that interacting with teh board in other ways isn't necessarily a priority (at least as far as I know the guy in question hasn't gone in for this yet,) but that's fine I think, as a broader principle, just as long as you're prepared to engage in-thread.

Not that I'm n a position to lay down rules here, which would in any case be difficult - basically, I think that as long as you're decent about it, you still can get away with pretty much anything.
