I'll be endlessly pleased if DC finally go ahead and let Morrison & Waid run the Superman titles for awhile.

(I blogged that same Superman typo a while back and followed it up with a joke, before being informed that a Sperman comic exists, the creation of one Roberto Fontanarrosa. Never could find any scans...)

I read Daredevil and Alias. The latter is being cancelled to be replaced by a Bendis-penned Marvel U title, focussing on J. Jonah Jameson, called The Pulse.

Nah, Bendis is stuck at Marvel, esp. after Executive Producing that Spiderman computer cartoon. He'll never leave now. So Marvel has him, Millar and Milligan... who else?

I will say that if Krueger gets to be the new EIC, Marvel might be a very cool comic company as he is a huge head for the characters and back stories behind each one.. or it could suck, depending on your view. Besides, he'd have to get some new talent.

Morrison on Superman is like sex on toast for me. It'd be very very nice. But won't happen... right?

Yeah I'm almost trying not to hope too hard for a Morrison Superman run. I've never really found Waid's comics to be even an inch over mediocre.

I didn't really care when I heard about Alias being replaced by Pulse but then I noticed that the new book would be PG.
Fucking Marvel.

Jim Krueger as the new EIC? I see that as being only slightly more likely than Peter David taking the job. Don't get me wrong, i think that Mr. Krueger has a great grasp of storytelling and a pretty clear vision of the Marvel Universe, but internal politics-wise, i don't see it happening.

Of course, i'm out of touch on a lot of stuff and could be completely mistaken.

That said, i found his _Earth X_ series to be rough going at the onset, but once it got moving, it really became something special. Like i said, he's got a clear vision, but i doubt that the powers that be would let that vision go through unchanged.

You guys do realize that the person most likely to replace Joe Quesada is Axel Alonso, right?

That's hardly a secret.

Is it possible that we might be getting a Morrison/Quitely Superman? I remember that they gave Jim Lee a bit of a lead time before soliciting his Batman issues to make sure the run would be uninturrupted, perhaps they'll do the same thing with Supes. Of course that means it'll be a few years before we see the first issue.

On the subject of Mark Waid, I think he's quite a solid writer, better than mediocre, but not really spectacular in any way. He's a much better "go-to" guy than, say, Austin or Zimmerman.

Various rumours have touted Alonso, Krueger and Brevoort (I think) to ultimately replace Quesada. Considering that Marvel appears fairly uninterested in quality writers anymore, I'd think Axel (who'd be my preference) was less likely than before.

From the article eeoam linked above, "Morrison plans on destroying the Marvel Universe. Really."

Doesn't Xorn have a miniature sun in his head? What if the Marvel Universe was destroyed, yet a replacement existed in his head, going on just like nothing ever happened? That would piss the fanboys off.

Well, I'm sure Grant's last year of NXM will be fantastic!

As for who will succeed Grant on NXM, I know many signs point to Gaiman but that just doesn't feel right. I can't picture him writing an X-Book....I really feel strongly that it's not Gaiman. But then, who?!??

LDones
01:17 / 23.07.03
FYI, the 'destroying the Marvel universe' bit from his discussion may have been a joke - he was laughing when he said it, in a potentially piss-taking way referencing the whole 'Morrison's gonna end the Marvel Universe in NXM #150 and it will all go Ultim-ized' rumor from some time back'. In any case, it would likely be best not taken at face value.

I'm wondering if he's gonna play about with anymore homunculus universes (a la Zenith). Who knows, Xorn might not only have a sun in there. Or something.

I want him to go the 'heartbreaking' route.

Optimistic
09:54 / 23.07.03
It won't be Gaiman. There's no way he'll right established characters in an established setting. Look at 1602, for example, he didn't want to write the "regular" marvel universe, so he didn't have to.

I think if he has any other projects in the works at marvel, even if they are X-related, he'll be using his own characters and settings because he'll demand more creative freedom than Marvel are prepared to give him on a book like X-Men. I think they employ him because he's a high quality writer who'll draw big crowds, not just comic fans either, but he won't be the new X-Men writer in a million years...

And the "heartbreaking" route is definitely the way I want things to travel, no doubt about it.

Look at 1602, for example, he didn't want to write the "regular" marvel universe, so he didn't have to.

1602 is set in the Marvel Universe. Gaiman very explicitly said that it is not a "What If?"-type thing.

i think 1602 is the single biggest thing that's got me convinced it's Gaiman. he's doing an 8-issue limited series with heavy mutant (err, sorry... "witchbreed") content, which ties into the MU in some unspecified fashion, and afterwards he's doing something else with Marvel. 8 issues, starting in August, would mean the limited series would end fairly close to the end of GM's run on NXM...

"Witchbreed"?

Spunk on my shins. If we flatter Gaiman enough about his novels, do you think we could get him to stop writing comic?

Back ontopic, sort of:

Wasn't that basically what happened in Heroes Reborn? Except without the star-head boy?

I would love it if Brevoort were next in line, but it's painfully obvious that he's the last of the old line...and Marvel is all about getting rid of the older creators.

This is the way the universe will end...
In a divorce court outside of time Scott Summers and Jean Grey will be locked in a custody battle for the future.
Xavier is in a coma but continues to mutter and spout prophecies from his slumber that Sage records word for word.
Bishop is killed in a race riot.
Wolverine is dying from an autoimmune reaction to adamantium.
Iceman goes environmentalist and tries to replace all of the ice that has melted since the industrial revolution. He manages to do it and lowers the Earth temperature a whole 2 degrees. It works for approximately 30 seconds and then the temperature steady rises 5 degrees melting more ice than before.
As a secondary mutation Warren Worthington molts and loses his wings as well as his feathers. The media find him more appealing. He regains his millions and turns his back on everything mutant forever.
Speaking of seconday mutations, most are amazingly dull and turns the uglist of mutants into average American citizens.
Kurt Wagner finds fame and fortune in the Cirque du Soliel. Everyone thinks he is just wearing and elaborate costume.
Kitty Pryde phases out of reality forever, only a disembodied voice remains.
Hank McCoy becomes so feral that he leaves the Institute and travels to South America on all fours. He enjoys a long stint as a jaguar god and lives in a temple in the jungle surrounded by his followers.
Finally Xorn sinks into a deep depression. He grows weary of this mortail coil, removes his helmet and erases everything in an invisible fire.
...not with a bang but with a whimper.

"Fuck You, Fuck your company, and Fuck your boss who's the biggest arsehole I've ever met." . Reportedly, from Grant to Quesada, in this week's Lying in the Gutters.

"... over the shouting match that went down at San Diego Comic Con between Joe Quesada and Grant Morrison. [...] one phrase "You owe me!" being the most repeated [by Quesada to Grant]. Quesada had found out about the DC exclusive deal and he took it out on Grant with expletives that were definitely MAX labelled.

Reports indicate that Grant kind of shut down and went into a mini-coma, but did give out one response "Fuck You, Fuck your company, and Fuck your boss who's the biggest arsehole I've ever met."

...

Well, even if its not true, this kinda gives me a feeling of exhilaration, both a juvenile and profesional exhilaration, after all the buoyant media shit that is being currently derived from Marvel. I'm just sorry for the New-X-Book characters, the legitimacy of the book, and the editorial interventions we might never fully learn about. Shit, I am sorry for all creators that have to digest bullshit to earn a decent living and still smile and pretend they are... whatever the "book owner" pretends them to be.

There is a pic somewhere of Grant and girl giving the finger there at Comicon, please someone send me the link and I'll insert it here.
