Yes. A new game of MC, specifically a learning game, so standard '76 tournament rules, no out-of-sequence Nidding, and everyone go easy on the new folks, OK?

Cool. Let's go!

Waterloo

Mourne Kransky
07:35 / 31.12.02
Kind of you to go mainline, Tezcatlipoca. Ordinarily, I would be highly suspicious of such a deceptively generous move on your expert part but I will assume you are being nice to the newbies and, in the same vein:
VAUXHALL.
(I'm in Knip now, aren't I?)

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
07:57 / 31.12.02
Actually, Xoc, you're not. It might look like you should be, but remember where we started...

Mourne Kransky
08:55 / 31.12.02
Hmmmm, with you. I am so old school, I am in a quandary when we start anywhere but Aldgate. I'll just keep my head down until some smart arse invokes the Toksvig Protocol then. I was working on the assumption that Mainline Stations are wild, which is always problematic for a Vauxhall Lateral Shunt. Must focus...

The Strobe
10:18 / 31.12.02
Hmn. Interesting.

Golders Green

Can we put moves in bold, please? If only for the newbies - it's good to seperate moves from comment. If you don't know how, just ask.

And no, Xoc, I think that "mainline stations wild" is a bit confusing to be playing in what may be an early game for people such as Feliciablahblahfishcakes. Maybe next time... muahaha.

And, for the general assistance of newcomers who aren't actually from London, here's a tube map so you can plot out moves on paper first.

Tezcatlipoca
12:58 / 31.12.02
Elephant & Castle

And newcomers may also find this helpful.

Goodness Gracious Meme

Jack Fear
18:19 / 31.12.02
(I wouldn't: there are reports of a violent hash eater shaking the chocolate machine, involved in an eating scene.)

18:20 / 31.12.02
(A shiny nickel, by the way, to anyone who catches that reference. PM me.)

Our Lady of The Two Towers
20:58 / 31.12.02
Gah! Pck! Tcha! Fggg!

Okay, as it's a beginners game I'm not going to challenge the flagrant misuse of the BA, but you just try that in a professional game and you'll be laughed out of the Groucho Club...

Brigade du jour
21:52 / 31.12.02
Don't think so, it was Groucho who came up with that particular amendment.

The Return Of Rothkoid
22:51 / 31.12.02
Well, sorry to get all postmodern on your sorry arses, but I'm going to have to utilise the blue ticket and go to...

Ha! How'd you like them apples?

From Paddington?

Hooo..... Please take care of THIS bear....

Kit-Cat Club
14:43 / 02.01.03
It's a bit cheeky, and on the whole I think probably not cricket, but I can't see anything actually illegal about it... can't blame a tyro, eh?

Our Lady of The Two Towers
16:21 / 02.01.03
I don't know, I've been playing MC for 40 years, and I've only been alive for 26 and these whippersnappers come along, I'm going to write to my MP. < Rik >Or failing that, the lead singer of Echo and the Bunnymen!

The Strobe
16:35 / 02.01.03
Well... alright, then, but I'm sure nobody said we were playing a short game... so shall we start again, and consider a more epic form of play - anyone want to add, say, one amendment to the ruleset we're currently using? Was thinking of outlawing Jameson's Gambit, but it's a useful move for the beginner so was wondering for any other suggestions to spice it up, Felicia proving so... adept at the game.

Jack Fear
16:50 / 02.01.03
Might I suggest that Theakston's Variation (but—and this an important caveat—with non-tournament rules) would make a good framework for a less-truncated game (for those unfamilar with Theakston, it's very similar to the Munro Jubilee rules, but with the vital difference that lateral jumps are not permitted, though axial jumps are)?

And, having suggested that, might I begin with an opening move of Victoria?

Mourne Kransky
19:22 / 02.01.03
With casual sleight-of-hand, I give you Bond Street.

I am thinking of the newbies but I think Felicia may require to be handicapped, pour encourager les autres. Bethlehem Rules would do it...

Jack Fear
19:42 / 02.01.03
Subtly done, Xoc.

Refresh my memory--Bethlehem rules disallows stations on the Jubilee line except inasmuch as it intersects or runs parallel with another? Or is that Stanmore rules?

Vauxhall, in any case.

pointless and uncalled for
20:24 / 02.01.03
Morden Which gives me two Babylon 5 points for my collection which gives me enough to double swerve out of a Baker Street inversion without derailing the Metropolitain Line, which is nice.

When do we score for Fast Show references?

The Strobe
21:06 / 02.01.03
I return to an old favourite.

Canada Water.

Mourne Kransky
21:44 / 02.01.03
The Bethlehem Rules are ferocious and would challenge Felicia's precocious skill in the game because they limit you to Nativity-connected stops on the way to MC: perhaps one of the most restrictive rulesets in the history of the game.

Accordingly, *blushes at his effrontery*: All Saints.

Brigade du jour
22:13 / 02.01.03
Sorry for cutting the last one so short, I'll try and play more generously this time. But if anyone challenges me with Monopoly, that would be a very different story. As for this game ...

Bow Church.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
23:53 / 02.01.03
King's Cross, whose subtle angry Herod reference is a personal favourite.
