Well, it seems that I was getting endlessly repeated issues to deal with, some that I'd only had a couple of days previously.

Exactly the same for me. Nothing was happening. There's only a limited amount of time youcan choose not to have a spiritual advisor...

I was looking at the book he wrote at work the other day. It looked pretty silly, but I hope it does well for the few weeks of fun the game gave us.

I've stopped checking it because of the issue thing as well. I pulled out of the UN too, since I wasn't following what resolutions were getting passed.

yes, for the first time in my life I can complain that I don't have enough issues.

14:10 / 11.02.03
There are only about 30 issues, and not every nation gets all of them, so I understand what you are saying. What I have done is have a couple of coups d'état, including a military defeat and occupation based on a bet about the outcome of the Super Bowl. This has made it more interesting by enabling experimentation with different responses to various issues.

UN proposals can be interesting, too. Some of them are downright funny.

Right now, I am willing to wage war with any nation that insists Australia will not win the cricket World Cup, even without Shane Warne and several other key players. All your base are belong to us!

Joining late...

Location: The North Pacific
The Republic of Apeyrokalya is a tiny, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its complete lack of prisons. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 5 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Religion & Spirituality, and Commerce. The average income tax rate is 24%, but much higher for the wealthy. A nonexistent private sector is dominated by the Uranium Mining industry.

Crime is a problem, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Apeyrokalya's national animal is the pilobolus and its currency is the Guilt.

Now let's see what else I can find to do around here...

I did, I did. Can I nuke one of you guys? Just for practice?

Nuke away! We don't mind.

As UN delegate, I welcome you to the Barbelith region.

The Disputed Territories of Rat Alley.

Thought I might join as well.

Hm. So how does this all work then? Where does the diplomacy come in?

The FAQ page will help you get started.

ephemerat
02:11 / 12.02.03
Yeah, I read the FAQ to begin with (it's only polite after all).

Still unsure of the dynamics - wild threads detailing counter-insurgencies, artificial intelligence, mind control and the like, plus nukes, troop lending and trade!? Can't help that the Forum seems offline to me at the moment. Ne'er mind, will get some rest and check it out later today.

02:30 / 12.02.03
The Forum contains a mix of role play and actual information about the mechanics of the game. You can participate in role play as much or as little as you like. The game is very simple if you just respond to the issues the game automatically presents to you on your nation's home page, but it can be far more complex if you get involved in the United Nations and the Forum.

I've not done much on it recently, as I find it frustratingly slow (largely due to the amount of people on it.)

05:22 / 12.02.03
The Forum is still deathly slow, but the pages for the game seem to be much quicker than when I first joined. I think the traffic has diminished somewhat.

Ah. I may have to return then (I don't think I've been away quite long enough to have been timed-out yet). Cos other than that I loved it.

In the Republic of Not F2B, we have a free-range zoo that contains specimens of all the national animals of the Barbelith region. Please send some cute, perky goth girls to add to our collection.

Quantum
15:10 / 17.02.03
What's in the zoo so far? As UN delegate are you sure you want the responsibility of zookeeping as well? perhaps another nation should look after the perky goth girls, um, I mean endangered creatures... The United states of Quantum uncertainty volunteer to give the utmost care to perky goth girls and simulate their natural habitat (as much as is possible in a cage). and the other creatures too I suppose.

03:09 / 18.02.03
With over 234 million inhabitants, the Republic of Not F2B can manage our UN responsibilities and still allocate sufficient citizens to maintain a large zoo.

Our newest additions to the zoo will receive special treatment, of course. Very special treatment...

The invasion continues, but we seem to be hopelessly outnumbered.

I can't get a single reply in the Forum. Perhaps Nietzsch E. Coyote's (i.e., The Dominion of Lyngvi's) proposal isn't controversial enough.

Can someone update me on what happened in the recent invasion and "griefing" of the Barbelith region?

I'm suggesting two things:
1. The Barbelith region be password protected to prevent future invastions.
2. The Barbelith region World Factbook Entry be updated to remove any suggestion of dependency on any other region (i.e., Aramir).

aus
04:58 / 03.11.03
I suggest the World Factbook Entry be changed back to "Social welfare and political freedom have a strong tradition here in the sunny lands of Barbelith, although not necessarily at the expense of the economy, stupid."

Cassandrah has stated that she is leaving the game. She is the current "Founder" of the Barbelith region. This may mean we need to somehow transfer this position to someone else as the Founder of a region has special abilities.

aus
14:01 / 03.11.03
I've written to a game mod asking that the founder be changed to an original member of the region (i.e., someone who was a member prior to the "griefing").

YNH

The Incorporated States of Boel Cockaigne has entered the region of Barbelith.

Welcome!

I haven't heard back from the game mods yet.

aus
03:14 / 04.11.03
It seems it's not so easy to have a 'Lither made "Founder" of the Barbelith region.

We seem to have several options...

The original Founder (I think it was luminocity) could ask for the founding nation to be resurrected and restored as Founder.

We could all leave Barbelith, wait for Cassandrah to leave or be deleted. Then the empty Barbelith region would automatically be deleted and could be re-founded by someone.

One of us could create a new region for Barbelith members, and we could all move there.

aus
14:04 / 04.11.03
We can't have a Barbeloid appointed as Founder, so I have now asked a game mod to change our World Factbook Entry back to:
Social welfare and political freedom have a strong tradition here in the sunny lands of Barbelith, although not necessarily at the expense of the economy, stupid.

As you might now, I don't read books so a World Factbook Entry doesn't have much influence on me personally. However, it would be nice to not have an advertisement for another region's discussion board in our Factbook Entry.

Posted by the Moderators at NationStates:
The Founder position has been cleared. The Delegate should be able to access regional controls now, which includes the ability to change the Factbook entry or to password protect the region.

The current delegate is cusm.

Huzzah! The region of Barbelith is once again under self rule. Tickertape parades soon to follow.

The password for entry to the region is "invisiocracy". That ought to keep the minions of the Outer Church from invading us again.
