Duncan: It seemed that almost every day last week there were at least five male-identified posters all posting similar commentary about the same person, both in the Conversation and in the Head Shop. I thought it was all rather vicious, mean and adolescent... hence my rather irritated comment.

As for trolls, I think 'instigator' is often more apposite to describe the behaviour. Further down the road, we can move into 2000AD-speak with 'perpetrators', or 'perps', for short.

"Perps" has moved out of fiction and into fact: it's common copspeak these days. My favorite application is a reference to that long, camera-riddled walk into the jail or courthouse where the squirming suspect desperately tries to hide his face under a hood or jacket: they call that the perp walk.
