You know, I know someone that actually really DISLIKES this book. And so do Plums and glassonion.

I reckon we should get together and crack his face. Whaddya say, guys?

Yawn? Eh? That's not true, is it? You are taking the piss, aren't you?

Nah, they shouldn't do New York - they should do Vertigo Pop: Hoboken or Vertigo Pop: Queens or something like that. Manhattan and Brooklyn get quite enough ink, I think - it's time to give the places on the periphery of NYC their due...

Okay, so a pint says #4 sees Victoria rediscovering her White Witch powers in order to switch them back

And a pint says she realises that she's better off with Sean in Rocky's body, he falls for her, and she doesn't bother...

Yeah, having been drunk when I wrote that I now reckon no way it'll happen. They won't swop back... See, a lesser author would have Sean's body turn out to have something 'wrong' with it (it is implied he's used heroin as well), but I think that's way too easy and moralistic. I dunno, can't see Sean ending up with Victoria exactly, they've not really interacted enough - unless Sean loses it again and keeps thinking he's Rocky, which seems unlikely now.

If I had one quibble with this issue, it's that at 24, I certainly can't jog round London, eat a burger, smoke a fag and still feel ace, and Sean doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who'd have been taking care of himself either. But that's a minor thing, and is easily made up for by the loveliness of the page in question. Oi! Parklife!

Yeah, but it's relative to how shit you'll feel at 60 if you try and do the same thing.

Flyboy sez:
Okay, so a pint says #4 sees Victoria rediscovering her White Witch powers in order to switch them back..
and then...
Yeah, having been drunk when I wrote that I now reckon no way it'll happen. They won't swop back...
Good to see flyboy's expectations are as confounded as usual. At its heart this is a very traditional moral tale - but somehow milligan's writing and the pleece bond combo on the art seem to transcend this. I found it a fun, entertaining read all the way through.

I've certainly not liked #2 and #3 as much as #1. But I quite like the fact that 'Helga' has helped him cover all the bases with regards to getting away with his body swap. It's just now he realises that his inspiration for new songs was tied up with his old body. Looking forward to getting the last issue to see how it all turns out.

I liked the ending. It was a concise way of wrapping up this 'meditation' on youth and the self, but I'm not sure if it served to neatly close the 'morality tale' Sleaze describes. Despite Rocky getting back together with his old missus, I didn't get the feeling that this was an important point being made. Rocky's selfishness was still present: he wanted back into his body to avoid going to preison for the murder of trixie. He got back with his old bint cos she'd do anything for him. Rocky's still the good ole cunt that he was at the start.

Thank Grudd.

I think the ending was a bit crap, all tied up nice and neatly, bit cheaky for Milligan to have Dravid come and save the day and talking about how he wasn't a steretypical cypher when he'd had about 5 words to say previously and appeared in about 2 panels per issue. I wish the story had more of the fact that although Rocky had stolen Sean's body he cared more for Sean's ex-girlfriend than he did, as Rocky said he didn't try to get her off the skag (though neither did Rocky). And the previous issue's plotline about Rocky in Sean's body apparently incapable of coming up with new tunes and Sean in Rocky's body having greater empathy with his relatives didn't really come to much either.

So, a fairly decent four issues, but nothing that lived up to the promise of the first issue.
