Flyboy, get a life.
As I have explained before, I used the term to describe my father, an incestuous rapist who maintained a veneer of obnoxious political correctness, reinforcing it with bouts of drunken violence if contradicted on ANYTHING, at least where I was concerned. My childhood was filled with statements like "No WOMAN would..." and "Trees feel pain!", followed up by ruptured eardrums and a flashlight broken over my back, apologised for in the morning by way of saying that it could have been a knife.
I realise now, that most left-wing P.C. intellectuals are not raving alchoholic sadists obsessed with cult mind-control techniques and conspiracy theories, in fact chances are against a P.C. Sensitive New Age Guy also being a rapist, but bear in mind out of two friends who were in relationships with self-professed "SNAGs", both ended up beaten. In short, if I want to call my father a feminazi, I will, and if you keep baiting me I will stick both my feet up your ass, rip your sphincter like a hair scrunchy, and dance in your ravaged ass meats. Metaphorically.

I think you've misunderstood the purpose of this thread, dude. Of course you are free to call your father whatever you like: I resurrected this thread in order to continue to discuss the meaning and connotations of the term 'feminazi' and, for that matter, 'political correctness'. Feel free to contribute to said discussion any time you like.

That's fine, LM. Your father was a bad father. However, it's probably worth noting that use of the term "feminazi" to encapsulate a set of views is likely to make people here think that you have not given gender issues much thought (it's Godwin's law), especially since you are associating it with a load of stuff which is about your father rather tan about feminism, just as use of PC without any coherent exposition of what it means is likely to make people think that you haven't given whatever issues are covered by the umbrella of political correctness this week much thought... it's a thing.

feminazi A term used by people suffering from the inability to distinguish between (a) the type of power exercised by a totalitarian state bent on military expansion and genocide and having total legal control over artistic expression and news media in the territory under its control and (b) the type of power exercised by a non-sovereign, non-constituted, and diverse group of theorists and activists (or, it seems, by an individual).

On another note: I personally think physical threats against other posters are upsetting, horrible and completely unacceptable (even if you tag "Metaphorically" or "I was JOKING!!!!" on at the end of them). (a) Have we talked about this in the Policy at all? and (b) LM, please never do that again.

I don't know about you guys, but I'd rather have a foot up my ass than be buried alive. Whadayathink, Flyboy?

"As for Lord Morgue: he used the word "feminazi". Seeing as we don't live in my own private Barbelith and so aren't already treading down the topsoil on his (metaphorical, toksik) grave, is this the kind of thing the ignore button was created for?"

That's what I thought. You are SO my footwarmer this chilly winter. Which dovetails nicely into the "tucked in" topic. Ah, snuggly.

Fair point. But this is offtopic. If you want to defend your right to make violent threats, LM, maybe you should start a new thread (here or in the Policy)? In the meantime, though, I can only reiterate my plea to keep this kind of thing out of my lovely Headshop.

Agreed. Anything more that is said on this subject here is going to be moved for deletion in this thread, unless there is a convincing reason not to, because this is a policy issue (threats against other members) or a Conversation issue (abusive fathers) and I don't see why either should continue to be debated in this thread. Lord Morgue, you are free to use whatever language you wish, but possibly the responses you have received here will make you aware that terms like feminazi and PC, unless carefully and competently explained, are likely to convince people that you don't know what you're talking about. That's just a thing. Likewise, people are likely to take a pretty dim view of threats of violence against other members, because they are pointless, time-wasting, potentially offensive and ultimately a bit cowardly lion. Again, the best place for that discussion is the Policy. I realise that this is not how things happen in your board, but that's kind of the point. Different boards satisfy different needs.

I must have had a sheltered upbringing, because I never heard the term "feminazi" until I came to Barbelith. Just goes to show - not everything you learn from the board is good, kids.

On the gender neutral thing: personally, I find it jarring to hear 'he' used as the nuetral pronoun. Also, the number of times 'chairman' and 'spokesman' are used always weird to me (yeah, journalist, made to read a lot of rather dull things using said terms). Especially when it's Chairman Jane. If I was ever a chair of anything I sure as hell would insist on getting rid of that right away. /endrant.

One interesting thing I've noticed some academic writers in particular do is replace 'he' as the nuetral with 'she'. Although, of course, it is just replacing one not-actually nuetral word with another not-actually-nuetral word, it works interestingly, I think. Its unusal enough to be jarring - challenging the reader to rethink why they are surprised by this - but at the same time doesn't need an explaination, like ze or hir does. Those might be preferable, but it is worth considering that to use them in, for example, a mundane every day letter to your gas company or something, is going to be more confusing than enlightening...

Just a thought...
