Rex: I don't believe Haus has slagged the Magick forum in this thread. I remember a couple of ill-considered remarks here and there in other threads, but I've seen the same kinda throwaway stuff uttered by several others.

Michael is currently pacing up and down outside Beckingham palace's gold main gates. He can just hear the muffled sighs and sobs from the window above, and everything in him wants to be a part of it. But he remembers the last time he was with the Manchester United first team - the ill-timed comment, the look of shock on the face of little Paul Scholes, the angry poke in the chest from Roy Keane. Dare he go in?

A sound from behind him, a broken twig perhaps, makes him spin round. Emerging from the shadows is Gary Sprake, former Leeds and Wales keeper of the 1970s. He's lost an eye since Michael last saw him, but otherwise he's looking rather well.

But he shouldn't be here. He's supposed to be happily married in a three-way Wiccan ceremony to Arsenal reject Augustus Caesar and former Old Trafford icon Lee Sharpe. Not sneaking around the Red Devils' shag-palace.

"Sprake," Michael grits out, "Have you betrayed Gus? Have you betrayed......Lee?"

Well they've arrested to people for the attacks now anyway, you know I was going to say they would catch them this morning, I wish I had now I might have sounded all you know "psikick". But anyway hopefully these people are the ones that have been doing it and its all over now, well at least until the movie comes out.

Now, I tell you what ISN'T a good ad for the Magick forum:

All of the Magick posters up in arms about FUCK ALL. It's like a fucking child's argument: Haus explains that he didn't diss the Magick and someone responds w/ a "You smug bastard! Don't diss the Magick"; Haus explains that he didn't diss....world without end.

And as Haus also explained, Mirror, after a good few years posting on the 'lith (and knowing many 'lithers personally IRL) he IS in a postion to know in what regard a sizeable percentage of 'lithers hold the Magick forum. Kay? Read posts.

This whole thing has been a fuckup. Jack D., this was a dumb thread to post in the Headshop, and you've been around long enough to know better. Haus/Jennings, you did come across as thinking not much of the Magick. Everyone else, there's so completely nothing to see here.

And as I suggested, before we even tackle that question, it might be interesting to attempt to assess whether magick has ever really been viewed with less than disdain, suspicion, tolerant amusement, etc., by "the masses", and whether anyone participating in the Magick should really give a tinker's damn what anyone else's opinion of that particular forum is.

Here's a thought: why does it even matter if (some, many, or very few) view the magick with disdain/scorn/etc.? I don't have as much time to post on the 'lith as I'd like these days, but back when I had oodles and oodles of freetime, I would only occasionally venture into magick. Not because of any particular disdain, but mainly because it didn't hold my interest for too long. That said, it's been obvious that many people DO like the magick forum and find it quite interesting. So, if those who like it are happy, what's the big deal?

I AM guilty - spank my arse) - and, as it goes, it would be groovy to get a guage of exactly how 'lithers view magick/all things mystic-y generally. Someone should start a thread about it. Okay, this whole thread (apart from the Man U. slashfic) has depressed the fuck out of me.

runce-marriage was right. Half the most vocal Magick posters in conniptions, and for what? Fuck-all. The post that kicked off the whole shitstorm didn't imply that the Magick is full of thickos. It implied that maybe some other people on the board percive us as being a bit minus. But oh, looky here! Who's the author? Why, it's Haus! And we all know that Haus is the Wicked Witch of Oxbridge Academy, don't we, boys and girls? Anything he says must be a huge hairy insult, by definition. So let's all have a nice scratchy bitchslapping session. Yeah, that'll really impress people.

The onyl problem I can see with the Magick being perceived as Club Twart and walled off is, quite simply, that it means that *people will not go there*. It will not be read broadly, and therefore knowledge will not be imparted. The conversation therein will become progressively more insular, more self-satisfied and less interesting. Which will make it even less likely that people who might either offer new insights or learn new things from it will go there.

Which is magnifique, but it would kind of defeat the point of it being on Barbelith. IMHO.

See, i don't believe that Haus is "a fucking moron" BUT by saying the last sentence it implies that EVERYBODY ELSE on the board treats Haus like a fucking moron. They don't. He's not.

But it sounds REALLY OFFENSIVE.

And one shouldn't go around claiming to know what toher people think.


I want to say this one more time...

I don't believe in what I wrote in the parodying of Haus' post. I just made the parody have some inflammatory words in order to evoke strong emotion to show why the post reads very offensive. (I'm not even sure if I'm using proper grammar here. Oh, well.)

Fact is, none of this was originally about the Magik forum at all. Somebody pissed in Haus's paddling pool and in full moderator/park-keeper mode he chased the meddling kid off. You want to know what he thinks? Ask him. Or read where he was asked. The only person I've seen make disparaging remarks about the Magik in months is myself, but that wouldn't be nearly as much fun for you would it. Face it, if Haus didn't exist it would be necessary to invent him. He is the Saddam to your Bush - you have to build him up to demonic proportions to justify yourselves and your actions. So forgive us if we get bored with this and lead the thread astray into the warm waters of sins of the flesh.

Lionheart. Please explain precisely what each of the sentences in the second post on this thread means. To you. I think it would be informative, enlightening, and very probably funny.

What I *do* deeply regret about this thread is that the people "defending" the Magick have, I fear, done little to make it harder for people to hold precisely the same prejudices about the Magick that I was complaining Jack Denfeld's post helped to perpetuate. That *is* a shame, and I would like to point out that the abusive, uncomprehending or at times simply incomprehensible attacks on this thread represent only a tiny fraction of the users of the Magick, and only a tiny fraction of the number of interesting and informative posts they themselves have made before and will make again.

I also regret that this ongoing tarantella on my last remaining nerve is making me a snippy Haus, here and elsewhere.

I was trying to defend the Magick and assault said prejudices by ignoring this thread entirely.

(Is it just me, or is this thread like a party no one was having a good time at, so you left, but when you popped by three days later to pick up your coat, everyone was still here?)

I certainly don't. As long as people don't piss there, I could care less what they say of it. Its a damn fine forum where folks are well behaved as a lot, and I'd like to see it stay that way.

After all, you wouldn't want to piss off any EviLe SorCEreRZ, now would you?
