Our trip to the convention is up in the air. My OSAP has been stalled, so my spare cash has to last me longer than I expected. However, I have been given a reprieve. If all goes well, Toasterfinger and I will be there Saturday. We'll see if we can fit kareoke into our plans. I know my brother is a huge Angel fan.

Would love to be there but sadly my travelling plans will be interferring with my ability to attend.

If I can open up a couple of hours in my schedule I try but no promises.

Sorry I never got the chance to meet more people. Some other time perhaps.

And I too must apologize at this point.

I was absent from Barb for a couple of days and did not see the notice in Gathering. Which is really a shame because I really wanted to meet the people behind the witty banter, but by the time I read it, it was already underway.

I'm planning on being there next time...

...If you'll have me...

Yaw!!!

I'm going to plan on going to the Reclaim the Streets, since I've never been to one before.

all this talk about gatherings and reclaiming the streets and what not, make me want to hop on a VIA train next Friday and take the 2 hour trip to Toronto. But I won't, not this time... like Moriarty, I too am awaiting OSAP. Well anyways, I know you all will have a grand time!

but hey, as I was saying... you can all come over to London any time and join me for a pint (Rex you know where the Wick is - conveniently located across from the grey hound station).

Hey! Who's up for trying this again? The weekend of October 3-6th, some pub in Toronto?

Funny. We had a meet at Amato's last year on that same weekend. How do I remember? Canzine!

Unfortunately, I'm attending the Ottawa Animation Festival that weekend, so I'm out. You may want to PM a few of the Toronto natives to see if they can make it. Betty, Cameron, maybe Wembley will cross the ocean...

Not necessarily a meet (though that october weekend is looking good for me, no job and all), but Word on the Street is this Sunday. Anyone going? If you do, look for me, I'll be the bearded, buzzcut tall guy with the phoney bone star shirt on.

Damn it, I always miss it. I'm working and visiting family in Hamilton this weekend.

Saturday Night?

The Green Room off Bloor?

Yes? No? Alternatives?

830-9pm? Later?

(I don't know many pubs in Toronto, to my dismay. This will be corrected soon I hope)

Hey!

Anyone interested in meeting up in the next weeks? Maybe the 7th or 8th?

Hmmm....I might be interested but I'm not sure. You're kind of a cunt ;-)

I won't know until later this week if I'll be available for the 7-8. But I am interested. Been too long since a northern barbemeet occured. I'll try to be in touch this week.

Zoom.

It doesn't have to be next weekend. I've just never met any Ontarian Barbeloids other than Betty Woo, so whenever a meet can be organised is fine by me.

I could stand a pint/and-or/pizza with a bunch of relative strangers. There are lots of new members, many Canucks, but I rarely see posts from the old Ontarians.

oh, and Keg, you're not afraid of a little contagious disease, are you? Builds character.

I'll be in and around Toronto now and then this summer. Sometime around mid-May to welcome my Mom back into Canada, possibly a July trip to deliver a grandfather clock and see The Kingpins, and the end of August for the comic convention. Hopefully I'll get a chance to visit another one or two times, especially when I go through Toronto on my way to the Niagara Region.

It's too bad I'm losing use of my car, Kegboy. We could have gone on a road trip.

There seem to be a lot of new people from Toronto, but I feel odd randomly PMing them....

And they do say the worst of the SARS is over...

Isnt that what they said about the germans after WW1?
Thanks for the roadtrip offer Moriarty. Ah if only I had my liscence and a car...or just a tank.

ok, i move from toronto to new york, and there is a Barb meet in t.o. but new york, "the greatest city in the world" can't get it together to have one. this place is not all it's cracked up to be, it doesn't totally suck, but montreal and toronto both are pretty great cities and their scale seems to actually help interaction.

Saint Keggers
14:40 / 29.04.03
I worry about any place that bils itself as 'the greatest city in the world'. Reminds me of the idea behind 'Green'land.

I figure if we keep bumping this up to the top 3, more will respond..

How's the weekend of May 16th-17th?

(oh, and the WHO has lifted the travel ban now so...)

I'll be in the area around then to meet my Mom at the airport and hand over the car. I'm not sure exactly what's going on, if I'm going down to the Niagara Region to hang out with her for a bit, or if they're shipping me off by bus straight away. I probably won't know until I get there, but if I can, I'm in.

Kegboy, you're more than welcome to get a lift, though it will probably mean taking the bus to Ottawa, and another one from Toronto to Montreal.

Though, now that I think about it, I'll probably hitch a lift back.

Baz Auckland
03:56 / 02.05.03
Maybe this deserves a thread of its own, but... how do you hitchhike? I've always meant to, but never knew where it was legal to stand, etc.

Saint Keggers
13:51 / 02.05.03
It isn't. Hitchiking is illegal so it doesn't matter where you're standing. Besides we all know that only "bad people" pick up hitchikers.
And only bad people hitchike. This is a fact. I know. My dads a cop. he told me so it must be true.

I don't know any ideas, anyone? I haven't been many places in Toronto as of yet, but we could always move somewhere else... how's Queen West? The Black Bull at Queen and Peter? Any other suggestions welcomed...

Day depending on moriarty?

fluid_state
17:20 / 05.05.03
Actually, the Bull is a good suggestion, as it's got lots of seating, indoors and out; I'm good for any weekend (after about 5 or 6 pm) but that of the 24'th, when I'm off to Ottawa for a wedding. My only question is whether non-drinkers can suggest a more inclusive locale.

moriarty
18:35 / 05.05.03
Don't make this dependent on my schedule. The car's busted and I just landed a new job, so I have no clue what's going on. Besides, I'm a bad, bad person. I hitchike.

The only locales I'm really familiar with are the comic shops and pizza joints. And ice cream parlours. And video arcades. And the best busking spots.

I can't speak for all non-drinkers, but hanging out in a pub is alright by me, though I prefer something with a dancefloor. Blow Up!

Baz, when hitchiking I tend to stand at the base of an off-ramp. If you're hitchiking right on the highway, a lot of cars will be going by too fast to spot you. That only applies to the major highways, like the QEW. Smaller highways, like around the North Bay/Sudbury area are usually pretty sparse and are perfect for hitchiking. You probably won't spend anymore than an hour or two waiting, though I'd say 30-45 minutes is a good average.

There should be better instructions for hitchiking in the guidebooks. Wusses.

Baz Auckland
02:05 / 06.05.03
Well, the sometimes have "Hitchiking is bad, but if you're going to, here's what they say...". But the info is pretty sparse.

So shall we say Saturday the 18th? Location can and may vary by suggestion? A dancefloor is indeed welcome, as is pizza.

kid entropy? anyone else? I know you're out there!
