Today I was on my way to the school cafeteria for lunch, and the International Student Union had a booth set up. They made me a bookmark with my name written in five different languages. The Iranian girl told me my name was a flower in her country.

It was super cool!

I tossed a coin to see which thread this should go in...

It's a youtube vid, but it makes me happy. The little girl is the curest, most adorable headbanger in the world, and the tall skinny guitarist reminds me of a million cool "uncool" kids I knew in highschool.

I'm gonna be an Uncle today!
My sister-in-law's water broke at 03:00. She and my Bro are at the hospital: She's dialated to 9cm.
Dunno if it's a boy or girl, yet...
I'll see them after work.

I'm an uncle. Baby boy 8lbs, 10oz. Name not chosen...
I'm happy.

I held my nephew, Cooper, when he was 4 hours old. It was wonderful.

On another forum someone started a thread about my sofa.

It´s a parody thread of this thread.

Ha, king! Sofa King, maybe. I´m not even in the five digits yet, and I´m not in any of those incrowd clique threads. Plus, I´m mostly in the off topic. The people in General Discussion are insane, some have 20,000+ post counts after less than a year. But off topic is where the real fun is, anyway.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
14:43 / 09.12.08
Having been forced to take actual time off from work has done me a world of good. I'm not perfect -- I still need to deal with the one persistent health problem -- but I'm more relaxed than I've been in nearly a year and I feel inspired to write like there's no tomorrow.

I saw Mastodon twice over the weekend. OK, so one of my ears is now permanently fucked, but they were AWESOME. Not been so blown away by a band in years.

I had downloaded a song a few years ago in a between-computers moment, and lost it when my USB flash drive was broken. But the fucking thing stayed in my head, and I couldn't remember the band or the title. Only a vague small memory of bits of the sound and one incomplete line of the lyrics ("would you like to" "see me?"/ "hear me?"/ "get me"?) which I'd constantly google with no results.

Tonight I finally found out through cheer dumb luck! Animal Collective's "Grass"! And I've been hearing one of the band members (Panda Bear) for almost a year now.

God, it's like an unreachable itch in my back has been so deliciously scratched away. I don't even know if it's actually good, or I'm just listening repeatedly so I can kill the nagging "how was it again? *incorrect humming*" feeling in the back of my mind.

I know this problem, especially when there´s no lyrics at all (Ryuichi Sakamoto´s "Energy Flow", for example).

And for the sake of synchronicity, someone is going to an Animal Collective concert tonight!

Enjoy the show, Mist. Been listening to "Feels" and they're pretty good (and Grass on a unending loop).

Thanks zip! It was fun, but now the tinnitus is haunting me. Lots of tracks sounded so much better live. They didn´t play Bluish, though.

And the warm up guy was very timid. One "Animal Collective!" shout, and he already mumbled "Yes, I´d rather hear them now, too. Can anyone give me a ride to London tomorrow?" "..." "Didn´t think so." Aw.

Hang on, OUR Jack Fear is on telly answering "foods starting with the letter Q" and shit?

FUCK. YouTube this shit or die.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
21:17 / 30.01.09
My happy this week is that, barring any last minute administrative issues, I've been accepted to the Masters Program for Creative Writing that I wanted to get into. It's one of the most prestigious in Canada, and I'll be moving to a bigger city for it in just seven months. Which is terrifying. But the Accomplice is moving with me, and we'll be moving in together for the first time when it happens.

Fuck yes, Papers, congratulations.
As far as the Jeopardy thing goes, personally I do not have the technology available to post it, or I would. Maybe someone else here can? I'm sure Jack can't for fear of feed hand biting. The next one comes on here in half an hour, though others broadcast time may vary.

Part of me stayed glued to the set thinking that Jack's answer for final jeorpardy was going to be:

"What is BARBELITH IS DYING!?"

Tsuga

He just won again; mopped the floor with them, really. He seemed asleep the first few minutes, though I always wonder about how much of the game is (beyond knowing the answer) the timing of ringing in on the buzzer. Three days,108K, and he comes back next week. This shit is quite amusing.

Jeopardy has a web page with a video of a familiar face giving a "hometown howdy."

I will never be forgiven for sharing this information, but Google is so kind. So kind.

Oh God. Oh God.

Mad Captain Jack, they call him.

They have an archive of his game. No video that I've found. Yet.

AVAST YE, SCURVY DOGS!

Alan reminded me a lot of you, Grant. It was the sideburns, I think, and the dry-to-the-point-of-dessication sense of humor. Sweet guy. Gave me a ride back to the hotel after I finished whoopin' him.

Those Jeopardy message boards... yes. I have seen them. They frighten me. Frighten me to my soul. And yet I cannot look away.

Oh, and this?

I always wonder about how much of the game is (beyond knowing the answer) the timing of ringing in on the buzzer.

About 80%, I reckon. And if you look at all three games, you see it always takes me a while to find my groove.

HAHAHAHA! Jack!

They will not forget your name!

JACK!

THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT YOUR GENITALS IN CYBERSPACE!!!

And comparing you to Cliff from Cheers.

I'm thrilled.
