I feel strongly that slavery is fine in chaps-related contexts.

Not sure I should click Bill's link at work.

The second volume of Jason Lutes's comic book series Berlin came out this week -- I've literally been waiting five years for it. Maybe more than that. And I'm really looking forward to posting about it once I've finished reading it.

happy puppies saved from evil ending.

The Humane Society of the United States, PETA and a chorus of supposed dog pundits said it couldn’t be done – that the 47 pit bulls rescued from Michael Vick’s Bad Newz Kennels could not be reformed, and therefore needed to be euthanized.

Best Friends believed otherwise, and a U.S. District Court in Virginia agreed, placing 22 of the dogs with Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and the rest with various other rescue groups around the country. As the premier episode of the National Geographic Channel’s “DogTown” will show to millions of viewers this Friday, the dogs have bucked the naysayers and proven that a second chance, replete with the right training and nurturing, was what they needed to succeed.

That reminds me of this: Tough Puppy Love

"About 15 years ago, a group of animal-loving, tattooed bikers in the New York area began acting on behalf of abused animals. The men volunteered at shelters and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty Toward Animals, and they tried to solve cases of missing or abused animals that other organizations had neither the time nor the resources to address."

You should look into the history of Best Friends; they're far, far weirder than you think.

But they do good work - they have a weekly thing in the paper I write for.

They are working on Evil Dead: The Musical. Movie Version.

Why the happy? They want to make it 3d so that the movie going audience will have the same 'gettting splattered with blood' experience that the mucial audience did.
Original stage directors Christopher Bond and choreographer Hinton Battle are set to co direct the extravaganza, they hope to kick it off spring of next year.

Not sure if the following is a happy or a creep out, but I've just seen a room for rent in a flat here in my neighbourhood, FREE to any girl with the only condition that they practice nudism around the flat.

I am back briefly (I have been lurking a little) to brag that I am officially giving my first conference keynote presentation in January. It was completely unexpected, to be invited, but I am very excited. Career stuff is going well. Now if I can just finish my bloody phd thesis, everything will be aces.

I'm happy because I've discovered the work of Gustave Verbeek. They're comic strips which can be read in two different directions, which is pretty impressive - but even apart from that, they've got this kind of compellingly strange quality. I find them very hard to stop looking at.

I'm happy because I just turned 25 yesterday, and despite the sadness over me during the day, the past several nights have rocked. I've spent them with good friends who I care about, I signed for the new apartment I'm moving into on the 1st of October, I tried capoeria for the first time and loved it, and I might have auditions with two bands for the position as a singer. AND, I found out that the absolutely charming woman I met Wednesday night, who I thought was just kind of harmlessly flirting with me(as the friend who introduced us said she probably was), well, wasn't. One of those heard it from a friend things, but I was apparently described as "the first guy [she's] met in awhile who'd be worth pursuing" to another friend. Which is just kinda...wow. My face was nice and red when I heard that.

Remember, though, if she wees in the street she can still be a classy lady.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
18:14 / 13.09.08
As of today, it's been five long, short, ridiculous, infuriating, happy years with the Accomplice, in spite of my almost crippling neurosis. This makes me happy, even if he did get to sleep in this morning while I dragged my ass to work.

To celebrate we'll be going to see the new Coen Brothers movie, Burn After Reading, which will also make me immensely happy -- particularly if there is a scene with Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton opposite each other.

Clearly, my charming demeanor broke through his usually grumpy exterior.

I have three responses to this:

1. Someone should send her on a date with Automatic.
2. There are a lot of people who think that's by far the best use for a Metro, actually.
3. The last film I saw her in she was a man. Well, a male angel anyways (it was Constantine). So overall I'm confused. Is it possible to embody the eternal feminine and a very good drag king at the same time?! Perhaps it is. Or perhaps it's just phenomenal acting talent...

Incidentally, the whole weeing on the street thing sort of petered out rather than coming to a more dramatic conclusion. We met for lunch and things were, to my mind at least, a little stilted between us.

Sometimes I sit, cigar in one hand, glass of bourbon in the other, staring at the hazy sunset and wondering about what a relationship with her would have been like. Feelings fade so fast.. like dust in the wind..

No matter though, there are lovely people out there to spend my days with, and I've got a special book with their phone numbers in it.

I take it that means you didn't bring the subject up then?!

In a way I'm sad we'll never know the reason behind it. But in another way, I'm not. For mystery is such an important part of life. And evermore will we carry with us... the Mystery of the Piddling Eisteddfod Winner. :-)
