Went to see my first flat today, and really liked it. The second one (which was the one I didn't really want anyway, and only booked an appointment for as a statement of intent so I'd know I was actually LOOKING for one rather than just worrying about it) was very strict on "no dogs, no smokers", so I didn't bother going. But whether I take the nice one or not, it's put me in a much better mood about the whole moving house malarkey. And I'm starting to think I might take it anyway.

When the Olympic Torch reached Hainan, it was immediately set upon by strange-looking, but peaceable, creatures. One policeman could do nothing but stand and stare in awe.

I've been going around telling mutual friends that if I ever hook up with X, they can smack me. Apparently, person X has been telling the same friends the same thing and it's been a source of entertainment to many. But, as the friend who blew the whistle said, it plays better if you replace me with Colin Firth.

Brian Blessed hosting 'Have I Got News For You' gave me a major happy. Lordy, I love the iPlayer.

Google yielded to my greedy, grubby paws a copy of the forthcoming Johnny Foreigner album this morning, and it's one of the best things ever recorded by anyone ever.

w00t! After a couple of nailbiting days waiting to hear back from the landlord whether I could have a dog there, I finally got a "yes". And it's the really nice place I wanted to start with.

(And it turns out the reason it took so long was because he originally said no, but the letting agent's been arguing with him about it, because I've been a good tenant to my CURRENT landlord, who is the agent's brother. Which was nice!)

And I saw the Bad Seeds.

As Wednesdays go, it was pretty fucking neat.

Now I just have to FUCKING MOVE HOUSE.

Well, the gig I went to last night was a huge disappointment. (Crystal Castles, but Alice was ill, so they just did a DJ set. The support band was amazingly bad.)

Oh, hold on.

*checks envelope with gig tickets*

Turns out I’ve got a ticket for Nick Cave this Friday. Standing!

Lalala...

I *think* that our gig on Sunday is going to be reviewed in the Independent tomorrow. This could be equally happy or miserable...we'll se tomorrow, I guess.

NIck Cave is a São Paulo's urban legend. People are still afraid to run into him in moonless nights in desert alleys.

Why did I go and see Death Note instead of going to this, as planned? Damn social anxiety.

Congratulations, Mono. You guys deserve it.

Just got a text message from a friend who's in a pub and who's just discovered that there is a beer called SPARTA AWESOME.

Sometimes I really love this world.

Oh? Really? Ok, well whatever.

Translation: After far too many+ years I am so over her.

I rock.

(and, today, I think my art may not be half bad aswell)

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
21:03 / 10.05.08
My last happy is diminished somewhat on rereading the text message and realising I missed out a full stop. The beer is actually just called SPARTA. AWESOME was editorial comment.

Still, it's a happy. If I ever change my beliefs on children and decide to actually father one, I no longer have to worry about what to call the bugger. SPARTA AWESOME it is. Anything that makes my unlikely-yet-vaguely-possible-though-still-not-entirely-desirable future life as a parent a bit easier has to be a good thing.

It's like guns, I suppose. It's better to have a name for a child and not need it, than to need a name for a child and not have one.

Things that make me go oooh:

Firstly, Norfolk & Norwich Festival is in full swing. Being a steward and/or event assistant for a good few things has been a crackin opportunity to help out and be involved in loads of music, theatre, street art and fun that I might otherwise have missed out on through lethargy or ignorance.

So far, Doll Foundation, a Silent Disco, Friches Theatre Urban, Maceo Parker, Laurie Anderson, Ku-Da-Mix, Wired Aerial Theatre, local artists Townley & Bradby among many others, have provided beats, dancing smoke and stilts, funk, politics, eclectic ethnicities, electro bungee ballroom and food for thought.

And secondly, all this is going on in lush weather. Go good global warming!

Right, off to sit by the river and while away the rest of this perfect weekend, and forget for a while the mundane week to come.

I know, machine is very sorry. My only excuse is that I am barely organised enough to get *myself* to these things. The fun isn't over though - anyone in the area should get down to NoFit State Circus at the very least.

Go here for the full program.

Sunshine.

I've been fucking miserable since Christmas - on a downer every single day since then, without respite - and all it's taken is an hour, walking home in the sunshine, listening to some soul and proto-funk stuff (you know, those brilliant lost pop records that you'll hear once in your life, then never again, that often sound like the horns and the bass aren't quite in tune with each other, and which all feature fantastic titles, with insanely upbeat music twinned with lyrics that are always about not letting a good thing go) to turn me around.

M and I were JUST in the seaside village where he grew up. The real happy was...

Saving a GUILLIMOT FROM A FIELD FULL OF SHEEP NEAR THE CLIFF'S EDGE where it was stuck and couldn't fly out, and an OWLET THAT HAD FALLEN OUT OF A TREE ON TO A BUSY ROAD.

M almost got pecked in the eye by the guillimot, cut his hand on a barbed wire fence, was chased by sheep and lambs, climbed a rickety ladder one-handed with an owlet gripping the other hand and almost got attacked by the parent-owl when putting the baby back in the tree. But they were bot safe and we all got a big warmfuzzy feeling afterwards.

Who knew having an ornithologist for a partner would be so action-packed?
