I wouldn't want to see the return of The Spectacle. I agree that there's a lot of material in these areas that is perhaps better suited for The Conversation (like aforementioned lists - they're interesting and fun to know, good conversation pieces, but not really worthwhile discussing in and of themselves). But as far as my interest goes, Books and Music, for example, should be kept separate. Why not, while we're at it, combine the Head Shop and the Switchboard, since politics borrow from theory and theory is political?

Uh I mean I think I'm gonna farm out a couple of these ideas and see what happens. I also think the cracker voice interpellates far more folks than it intends... anywho, not wantin' to be dissemble, I do bite from time to time, but not so much as I used to.

I wanna address Cherry's comment about "snippiness." We had some fun in the body fictive threads, and in a few others that made cases for alternative opinions; fun rangin' from giant debates with crunching jackboots and whatnot to violent shitstorms that fixed some key memes into the collective psyche. These days, we can be a wary lot, looking over our shoulders, tired of askin' folks to mind their manners. Perhaps our new moderator clans have a special responsibility we didn't expect? Maybe they need to wise up the marks, keep the discussion on track, or even splinter the thread? I dunno, maybe that'll just kill 'em?

I think it would be a mistake to recombine the spectacle. For a start it wouldn't be easy to unrecombine it if we didn't like it. Threads wouldn't be assigned a 'subject' - plus I fear the amount of traffic in this new forum would be huge...
