Wembley is Cab Calloway, in full suit-and-chain stylee.

Smelling salts! I need smelling salts!
Thankin' yew...

Mazarine
15:54 / 25.04.02
I think Mamselle de la Bomb would have to be Tuscadero in my book.

grant
16:26 / 25.04.02
I kind of match up Deva with... damn, is that band Electrelane? No, no no. Similar name.

nah. What the hell, you might consider it insulting cuz it was top 40 a couple years ago. British woman singer & keyboard player, shiny and metallic, synths and hard-pop... cross between Gary Numan & the Kinks... Elastica?

Yeah, Elastica. Or at least that "squank squa-conk!" sound from their big radio hit.

Wyrd
17:13 / 25.04.02
It's a short list:

Grant: Moby
Expressionless: Jeff Buckley
PATricky: Tom Waits
Ierne: Tracy Chapman
Lothar: Robbie Robertson
Cherry Bomb: Tori Amos

Mourne Kransky
20:42 / 25.04.02
Spot on, Saveloy (ZoCher = Kim Deal, Ganesh = Kate Bush).

Pet Shop Boys wouldn't work, Margin Walker, as we'd both want to be Neil Tennant (and would both fail...)

OK, here's a few more:

Pacha - Astrud Gilberto (and Screamin’ Pacha would have to be Diamanda Galas)
Meme Buggerer - The Dandy Warhols (can’t see him in ZZTop at all)
Transatlantic Flyboy is James Brown
bitchiekittie - Dolly Parton, that's ace!
shortfatdyke - Suzi Quatro
Henry Rollins is perfect for Rothkoid but Andy Cairns from Therapy has to be The Bear
Jack Fear - Jimmy Page
Cherry Bomb - Marianne Faithful
Sax (who I am sure looks just like Ganesh) would have to be Michael Stipe or maybe John Lennon
Saveloy is early Genesis
Mordant is the Velvet Underground (but has Gene Simmonds' tongue)
Lurid is Joy Division (as long as he never leaves Southampton again...)
grant is indeed Moby
Ierne - Dusty Springfield, backed by the Pet Shop Boys
Post-modern Sleazenation is a Sneaker Pimp
Captain Zoom is obviously Depeche Mode
Tom will always be Damon Allbarn (but in West African mode for a change)
Glint has to be Gareth Gates
and
Haus (His Sepianess) has to be Elisabeth Schwarzkopf singing Sieglinde in Die Walküre

God knows what murky Freudian associations were at work there.

& I'm really Missy Elliot.

Margin Walker
21:29 / 25.04.02
Yo Rizla, here's some info on The Saints: "Know Your Product"/"No, YOUR Product!"

Pet Shop Boys wouldn't work, Margin Walker, as we'd both want to be Neil Tennant (and would both fail...)

Oh well, can't always get everything right....

We're The Great Old Ones Now

Just catching up from the previous page...

I loved Chicago. Twice. It's pointless spectacle, sexy dancing people in pop-fetish gear with corruption and vice and very little plot. What's not to like?

Okay, fine. Chicago's not that bad, as far as musicals go. But it is pretty pointless spectacle. -. It was choreographed by Bob Fosse. +. It's just kind of "eh". I'd rather see Shockheaded Peter.

Which reminds me, does anyone get to be the Tiger Lillies? I'm theatrical enough, but I'd have to learn to be way more offensive to everyone in the world.

Here is me in groups of three (of course!):

m3 is Tar, Superchunk, and Polvo

{0, 1, 2} is Microstoria, ZovietFrance, and SPK

modthree is nomeansno, Throbbing Gristle, and jawbox

at least for today anyway.

Which reminds me, does anyone get to be the Tiger Lillies? I'm theatrical enough, but I'd have to learn to be way more offensive to everyone in the world.

Same here Wemb, but I'm so totally harmless that I don't qualify either.

Another thought... Grant's always kinda reminded me of Man or Astroman? doing Inoxia (I think that's the song's name, I'm not sure what I did with the CD.) I'm just going through all the music I have now and matching suits to artists... hrm. I could see Rage as Ani DiFranco, maybe? And Kali reminds me of Concrete Blonde from time to time... bah. I suck at this game.

glint = ikara colt
expressionless = godspeed you black emperor!
haus = the auteurs
lolita nation = the jesus and mary chain
cop killer = MC5
and, for the 'tool' jibe, rage = rage

all guitar bands, oddly enough. i'm trying (and failing) to match aphex twin, the KLF, ladytron, fischer spooner, pizzicato five and daniel johnston with barelithians. anyone?

lolita nation
00:05 / 26.04.02
i nominate autopilot disengaged for the KLF.

but if you start thinking about burning a million dollars... how about let's not and say we did? eh? the jesus and mary chain is getting sick of ramen over here.

Lurid is Joy Division (as long as he never leaves Southampton again...)

Too right. When I get hold of him he's gonna be more like Sparks.

Jack Fear
00:14 / 26.04.02
Autopilot: Daniel Johnston would be the Greenland posse, of course--occasionally interesting in a car-wreck kind of way, but overall just sort of sad and creepy.

Jack Fear
00:16 / 26.04.02
Mordant saith: When I get hold of [Lurid] he's gonna be more like Sparks.

This town ain't big enough for the both of us...

Cavatina
00:21 / 26.04.02
"Cavatina definitely has an 18thC music-hall vibe. " - Rothkoid

(dressed in handsome gentleman's suit, lined at cuffs and flaps with flashing silk, red rose in lapel, & stepping out into the (anachronistic) glare of the footlights to wave hir topper and bow)

I thank you. And I do sing 19thC songs too.

But I'd really, really like someone to say I'm Lotte Lenya.

00:39 / 26.04.02
you're lotte lenye (who?)

and jack - i liiike daniel johnston!

there again, i miss the greenlanders, too. i really do. i'm scared they got spaceside before the lizards made their final preperations.

anyway, i think they'd be gary numan. all of them.

hello, kids. google is your friend.

this has been a public service announcement.

(oh, cavatina, i think lotte lenya kinda suits you, actually.)

The Natural Way
10:04 / 26.04.02
Saveloy, you evilbastard, I am so not Tricky. And I certainly don't have a west country accent - posh southern, for me. I look more like that little white guy from Hearsay (according to Plums. I don't think I like her anymore).

Seth
10:31 / 26.04.02
Good God. Very damn flattered that I'm LtE, Godspeed...! and Jeff Buckley. I am, however, detecting a loony Christian (or at least, Christian referencing) apocalyptic motif recurring here.

Wyrd - Ursula Rucker
ephemerat - Alabama 3
Jack the Bodiless - ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead
Rizla - Boredoms
Will Wright - The KLF
Lothar Tuppan - Man'O'War
Flyboy - Public Enemy. Chuck most days, Flav when pissed.

Saveloy
11:10 / 26.04.02
Lurid Archive = The Dead Boys

The Return Of Rothkoid

Wembley:
Which reminds me, does anyone get to be the Tiger Lillies? I'm theatrical enough, but I'd have to learn to be way more offensive to everyone in the world.

That'd be me, I think. The offensive bit, anyway.

Whisky Priestess (whither?) is Black Box Recorder.
Cal is Aphex Twin, natch. Or Kraftwerk.
Billy Corgan is Val Doonican.
Rage is Plastic Bertrand, somehow.
Bitchiekittie is Ex-Girl.

Visually speaking, Ganesh is Ian McKaye.

Cherry Bomb
13:06 / 26.04.02
Mordant - Kraftwerk
Tom - Nick Cave
Plums -Neneh Cherry
Peresphone - more of a Tori than me

I have to think about more of these. !

bitchiekittie
13:37 / 26.04.02
I keep trying this, but I suck

so someone please explain to me how on earth I get "dolly parton" twice

Saveloy
13:54 / 26.04.02
bk: It is the way of things.

Lionheart = Can (early, with Malcolm Mooney)

Bizunth = Flowered Up / Wonder Stuff

Kali = Doris Day

Expressionless = New Model Army

Suds = The Raincoats

Jade = The Young Gods

Todd = CopShootCop

Whiskey Princess = Peggy Lee

Saveloy
13:59 / 26.04.02
Ooh, and:

Flux = David Byrne and no one else (SPOT ON, Mister grant)

Cop Killer = Monorchid with the singer from Cows chipping in every now and then with vox and mangled trumpet

Persephone = Joni Mitchell

Cherry Bomb
14:22 / 26.04.02
Bitchie I did not refer to you as dolly parton.

More:

Copkiller = Motley Crue
Haus = The Smiths
for some reason Zocher & Ganesh = Pet Shop Boys
Rage = L7 doing "Shitlist"

Ierne
14:22 / 26.04.02
Saveloy is early Genesis ... – ZoCher

Even though being compared to Dusty is quite a compliment (merci!), I'd make a wicked Peter Gabriel circa Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Not only because of the Puerto Rican punk kid ethic (mad props to the Lower East Side!), but I can totally rock the Slipperman outfit:

So Saveloy, if you wanna be Dusty instead, I'll switch...

Saveloy
14:55 / 26.04.02
Sorry Ierne, Dusty is tempting but if it's a choice between 'dignified melancholy' and 'flying round the stage in tights with an allotment on me 'ead' then I'll go for the latter every time. Sorry.

grant
15:44 / 26.04.02
Mazarine, those choices *rock*.

Kali is totally Concrete Blonde (just got an email from her talking about going to see them a couple weeks ago).

And I loves me the Astro-Man.

Oh, and it looks like I'm gonna have to get me some Moby albums. Not only that, but the guys at work were passing around some British paper with a Moby photo of him with dozens of naked women, replicating the Hendrix "Electric Ladyland" cover.

The Strobe
17:27 / 26.04.02
Glint always strikes me as early-era Symposium. Because.
Biz is definitely the Wonder Stuff, I liked that.
Flux, when not being Pavement, makes me think Beta Band. Or perhaps Spiritualized, or Trail of Dead. Can't quite decide.
I'll go along with Rizla as Urusei Yatsura, I really liked that.
Expressionless could be Massive Attack.
I've had this bizarre idea involving Haus as Bon Jovi, but that kind-of underwhelms the suit.

I'm finding this really hard. I really don't think about the ficsuit hard enough. Harrumph. Will think harder.

Solitaire Rose as Tom Servo
17:32 / 26.04.02
I LOVE the idea of seeing Tom as Nick Cave, especially after seeing him last night in concert. OK...HEARING him in concert last night, since everyone kind of went down to the stage and stood there, making it hard for those of us with manners to see anything.

OK, I didn't have manners, but didn't want to rush the stage.

Hmm....other peoples.

Miss Lenore: Debbie Harry while in Blondie...no one should be Debbie Harry in her solo career

May Tricks: Peter Gabriel.

Bear: Bob Mould (who actually did booking for WCW from 1998 - 2001)

bitchiekittie: Save Ferris

I STILL say Captain Zoom is not RUSH just because he is actually Neal Peart in a fictionsuit.

And I am Ian Anderson. While sitting on a park bench.

Im sorry to misunderstand, cherry - the horror and confusion overwhelmed my ability to read!

17:41 / 26.04.02
Thank fuck expressionless is NMA - those intials have been following me round like a dog on a string...

deja_vroom
17:44 / 26.04.02
I'll have to research The Young Gods...
