Gabriel's a popular one, isn't he? No Self Control and all that...

I'll stick with Dusty then. She's a great singer. (Thanks again, ZoCher )

How the HELL am I like Debbie Harry?

Solitaire Rose as Tom Servo
04:33 / 27.04.02
How are you like Debbie Harry? Aside from the obivious inherant coolness factor involved, you both have commentented on how beautiful my hair is.

Besides, Blondie (like The Cars) were one of the only cool non-punk bands of the very early 80's.

rizla mission

suggested by various people:
Grant: Moby
Meme Buggerer - The Dandy Warhols
Saveloy is early Genesis
Glint has to be Gareth Gates
Rage is Plastic Bertrand, somehow.
Expressionless = New Model Army

I wish to let it be known that all of those are just sooo wrong it isn't funny!

I don't know how I ended up being the Boredoms, but, well, *SHUCKS*, is there a higher compliment?

Urusei Yatsura is far closer the mark. Which is good.

I refuse to be Massive Attack unless it's pre-Mezzanine Massive. Otherwise it's just shorthand for dull-as-fuck hasbeens working with session musos, with deeply shite guitars: DOUBLE PLUS UNGOOD, in other words.

Cop Killer
19:08 / 27.04.02
Ierne = The Plasmatics
Grant = I couldn't decide between Link Wray or Cheap Trick
Haus = The Smiths (just cuz I'm convinced that Haus looks like Morrisey).
Margin Walker = Fugazi (obviously)
Rizla = The Damned (their whole career, in one package)
kookymojo = The Slits
Solitaire Rose = Slayer
Jack Fear = Howlin' Wolf
Jack The Bodiless = Mission of Burma
Flyboy = Primal Scream
Whiskey Priestess = L7
Cherry Bomb = Poison
Bitchiekittie = Hanoi Rocks
Ganash = HALFORD

Cop Killer
20:13 / 27.04.02
Right, and I forgot:
Uncle Retrospective = Manowar
Moriarty = Venom
E. Randy Dupre = Shellac

Spatula Clarke
21:25 / 27.04.02
Shellac! That's made my day, CK.

This is helluva difficult. I can only come up with a few.

Plums = Spacemen 3
Haus = The Divine Comedy
Rizla = The Undertones
Flux = Beck
Cop Killer = The Nosebleeds
grant = Matmos
Knodge = Timmy Mallet
Cherry = Mott The Hoople
Ellis = Belle And Sebastian
Suede = Slade
Loz = Plaid

Exactly how am I Gareth Gates? I'm deeply puzzeled...

And what Ellis did you meet, Randy? He's way too unhappy for Belle And Sebastian. Bizarely, I kep thinking the music Flux makes= Ellis, as opposed to grant, as I originally felt.

bio k9

Knodge is Andrew WK and no one else.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
03:45 / 28.04.02
I would have put Knodge as Anal Cunt myself...

rizla mission
13:35 / 28.04.02
amen to that.

The Undertones are cool, but The Damned? muummmyyy...

I'm sick of being punk bands, I want to be early Mercury Rev for a change.

_pin
17:59 / 28.04.02
Is aid you were Shimmer Kids Underpop Assoctiation. I mean, I've never heard early Mercury Rev, but Shimmer Kids aren't punk. Back me up here Flux...

that
18:13 / 28.04.02
I have to say, I really agree with Bio K9 about the Knowledge and Andrew WK. Though maybe I'm just confused by the fact they have the same first name... I'm easily confused (and I never have heard Anal Cunt either).

Captain Zoom

Ya got me Rose.

I am Neil Peart.

No. Really.

Zoom.

Solitaire Rose as Tom Servo

Hah! Caught you!

Now drum for me and make sure you go to Minneapolis on your next tour or I shall cry.

Suedey! SHOT FOR MEAT!
21:07 / 28.04.02
Charlatans eh kooky... ? mmm, that seems do-able.

Slade Randy? Fucking SLADE?!?!! Hahahahahahahahahaaaa.

I dunno if I can even think of any, but here goes...

Glint: Jackson Five
lolita nation: She is the young Patti Smith. Before the moustache at any rate.
Ellis: Dido
Riz: Just some random band whom I shall make up who play various pots and pans in conjunction with making various farmyard animals bleat in time with the music, yet still somehow fucking rock.

I'm not sure if I even mean any of that, but anyway...

How am I like Tori Amos? And what can I do to make it stop??

As flattered as I am to be mentioned, who is Neil Finn???

(and there's many things wrong with Tori Amos, that Kate Bush wanna-be...)

02:11 / 29.04.02
Riz, the Shimmer Kids Underpop Association aren't much of a punk band, though they are in some ideological ways. They are a present day psychedelic pop band, not all that far off from early Mercury Rev a lot of the time.

I love them to bits and pieces.

The Return Of Rothkoid
09:16 / 29.04.02
Neil Finn: songwriter from New Zealand. Nice guy. Prime mover behind Crowded House, was also in Split Enz. Now has a solo career. His website's at nilfun.net, which I still think is a good joke.

Riz: Just some random band whom I shall make up who play various pots and pans in conjunction with making various farmyard animals bleat in time with the music, yet still somehow fucking rock.

That sounds like a fine new direction for my legendary beat combo The Teenage Mice..

cool.

And what, pray tell, is wrong with Tori Amos????

I don't actually know myself... only when I told this to some of my meatfriends Friday night, they all sort of perceptibly edged away from me.

Ierne = The Plasmatics – Cop Killer

This is a compliment of the highest degree. Now I have to get my ass over to Chi-Town and party with you & Cherry

and there's many things wrong with Tori Amos, that Kate Bush wanna-be...– Barry Auckland

Nice to know it took the American Music Industry almost fifteen years to figure out what to do with Kate Bush...not so nice that someone else got the benefit of their hindsight.

that
12:54 / 29.04.02
Hey, now... all this slagging off of Tori Amos is most upsetting... She's not a Kate Bush wannabee - not at all. Just cause she sounds vaguely like her to the untrained ear. She is in fact an extremely talented musician and singer in her own right - I suggest you lot actually go and listen to 'Boys for Pele' or 'Little Earthquakes' or 'From the Choirgirl Hotel' and then tell me that you are not impressed by the emotional depth and musical range she displays. Plus, I saw her in concert once, and she had a godawful support band - the audience were getting extremely restless and pissed off...and the second she came on stage and said hi, we all melted. That woman has a serious way with the crowd. Hell, and she's beautiful, too. If someone compared me to Tori Amos, I'd be damn well flattered, so my advice is, don't take your meat friends at their word until you've checked her out for yourself, Persephone.

Back me up here, someone?

The Return Of Rothkoid
13:15 / 29.04.02
Word, Cholister. I prefer Tori to Kate: if only because she leaves Bronte out of her canon.

Of course, like Vegemite, a little Tori goes a long way...

Cherry Bomb
13:18 / 29.04.02
I love tori. It's a compliment. Tori is awesome!

And I am highly jealous of Ierne being compared to the plasmatics.

Ierne
13:44 / 29.04.02
I extend the hand of peace to Cholister, by likening her to the fabulously talented Lisa Gerard:

Wyrd is the Nightblooms. Not heard too too often, strangely well- thought-out and beautiful. And, of course, cynically magical.

Ierne, I can so see Dusty Springfield. Masterful presentation of self and taking no shit, plus the voice is husky and powerful. And the gowns! The lashes! Well, maybe not the lashes and the panda eyes...

And don't you disss gorgeous Gareth, Glinty one! He did a splendid job of Mack the Knife for a mere stripling. You just have that Tadzio-freshness about you. Make the most of it. It fades...

re: Tori Amos, academic, since Kate is not making records these days and what can you do? But Tori has her own thing going, much as I prefered the remix of Professional Widow.

& I first fancied Ganesh because he looked like Michael Stipe. Stipey still hath charms but Ganesh even more so. Now I like Michael Stipe because he looks like Ganesh.

Rob Halford, tsk.

We talked about the Pet Shop Boys and he said that would work because I was sulky and prone to loitering in the background, like Chris, and he is, truth to tell, eerily Neil Tennanty - sardonic, can't sing, doesn't care.

Cop Killer
20:18 / 29.04.02
Cherry, you should not be jealous, you were Poison.

And I'm changing Riz's...to At the Drive In

Persephone
21:02 / 29.04.02
It's true that I have very tough meatfriends. And I suck at bands and music, I am the girl that music forgot. Although I think Haus could be Tom Lehrer.
