KCC: Ute is a German chanteuse & thespian who (as far as I know) specializes in Weimar-era cabaret. I suspect your Isherwood-friendly ficsuit name gave wembley the idea...

...and yeah, it's a good thing.

'Chicago' was not her fault! She's bloody brilliant.

I have a warm glow now. God bless you all.

Saveloy has always reminded *me* of Capt. Beefheart (or They Might Be Giants or Bonzo Dog Band), and Rizla of either Beat Happening or Unrest (at their "zine-y-est" if that makes sense).
I know Margin Walker is a big Replacements fan, so I associate them, even though Margin is less rough around the edges.

Dao Jones is Steve Albini, yes.
Haus as Momus I can see.

Crunchy as Madonna, though - not nearly punk enough. It'd have to be Jello Biafra.

Flux I've gotten CDs from which I associate closely with him. It'd have to someone encyclopedic & discerning, a band with deep love of music and an ability to cover just about anything, but with a low cheese factor. First names I came up with: The Kinks, David Byrne, Houston Person, The Zombies, Bacon Ray (www.baconray.nu and Neil Young. But I think John Zorn will do.

Is Kooky Slant 6, or is that just me?
Mazarine as Gillian Welch, maybe.
PATricky as Zappa.
Rosa/Disco as Michelle Shocked, at her most political. (There's this new "texas swing" Michelle Shocked that's all weird.)

Tom, of course, is Duke Ellington.

This just in:

Runce = Tricky

"Crunchy as Madonna, though - not nearly punk enough."

I know, I know. I can't explain it but there's some strange catholicism association going on in my head with those two. I picture Crunchy as a priest giving a lecture about original sin.

Wow! How many times have I tried to explain my hatred of Jilted John to karika?

Normally running thus: It's shit Yes, but thats the point! Yes, but it's shit Yes, but that's the point But it's shit Yes, but that's the point!

And suds, you owe me a Smog mix now just so I know what you mean...

And suds is The All Girl Summer Fun Band. i've never heard them, but I've thought thus ever since I heard their name. And before she linked to them off her blog.

Flux is Kid Koala

auto is El-P

Karika is Mogwai

Knodge is blink-182

When you say "The Go-Gos," do you mean "Shiney happy cleaned up punk girls" go-gos, or "Behind The Music with Belinda Carlisle keeping a shoebox full of coke in her closet and getting caught on camera drunkenly explaining the virtues of masturbation" GoGos?

Not to diss the Go-Go's or anything, but...

Myself and Miss Bomb. Obviously.

Who gets to be Wierd Al?

Cherry Bomb
20:27 / 24.04.02
Wow Ierne, you like, made my day with that one!

I think bitchiekittie would be Veruca Salt, doing "Seether."

I have to think about more of these. Music math is hard.

Great post Flux!

I'm getting some nice match-ups. Embarassingly, though, I've had to look up half these bands and find out who the hell they were.

And Rothkoid is so Rollins it's not even funny.

Dunno anything about Andy Cairns, Ierne, but he *looks* too Charles Mansonish fer Rothkoid, don't you think?

Remember, Roths's the pirate king , in G & S stylee. Arrrr, yes.

Cavatina
02:04 / 25.04.02
And I'm not quite sure why, but I think of Nick Cave for JtB.

Margin Walker will forever be associated with the Afghan Whigs for me, but that's just cause of the stripping thread. I have to think about the rest of you.

Margin Walker
03:28 / 25.04.02

Rizla:
"don't know much about the Saints, weren't they a NY punk band?"

Aussie garage/punk band from the late 70s, I think. There's a track by them on the compilation you get with the current copy of Kerrang (the one with the Hives on the cover).

"Saveloy = a cross between the Bonzo Dog Band and The Fall"

Woof woof-ah!

The Return Of Rothkoid
10:04 / 25.04.02
Margin Walker, I love you. I always wanted to be Tim Rogers. Evidence the first: a relic from my dodgy compulsive-gigging past -

Before that new guitarist bullshit, baby.

But then, given that I am wearing the same outfit today, this is pretty appropriate, I guess:

Busted.

Barry Auckland strikes me as quite Neil Finn-ish.
Expressionless is Gene Krupa. Or Buzz Melvin. I can't decide which.
KCC is The Squirrel Nut Zippers.
Videodrome is Kim Salmon.
Wembley is Cab Calloway, in full suit-and-chain stylee.
Cavatina definitely has an 18thC music-hall vibe.
Mordant Carnival, JtB and Miss Spooky are Mr Bungle, mask-era.

saveloy is SO the bonzo dog band.

cop killer = the stray cats
videodrome = dream city film club
betty woo = add n to x
johnny suede (or whomever he is this days) = the charlatans

this is actually harder than it looks.
