My new tooth is stuff coming the post-Sonic Youth guitar noisey school. The bands I am right now into are:

'Blonde Redhead.' You should like them for their music, but if that's not enough for you, how 'bout the fact that they are a three piece of twin Italian fellows and a Japanese woman. Twins and music, seems natural enough, barring the Proclaimers, that is.

'...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead.' Swell stuff, punky, noisey, a tiny but like Radiohead's 'O.K. Computer,' melodic punk, only a lot less clean, maybe even artfully underproduced.

yes i am. don't know that much about the tour when it goes elsewhere, but it's got boom/dose, radioinactive, reaching quiet and [kiss my face!] cLOUDDEAD. i guess maybe the mush/anticon/6months websites could have something. brighton's been great for weird hiphop lately -since december we've had aesop rock, cannibal ox, buck 65, the mush tour this week and sage francis next. still happy. small 'g', please.

Um.. I would help, but I can't find mention of it on any ticket buying sites, and my favourite gig database thingy has closed down .. I did see the posters in Brighton though .. crikey, that place is good for gigs..

Anyway, some of my current favourite musical things:

The Birthday Party, Bikini Kill, Lydia Lunch, Flying Saucer Attack, freaky Digi. Hardcore/Drum n' bass, weirdy forgotten 60s psychedelia, the Bellrays (believe the hype in this case), even more Patti Smith..

Last couple of days, I've been listening to the new Idlewild album constantly. I'm not as taken with it as I was Hope Is Important or (more so) 100 Broken Windows, none of the tracks seeming to have the vitality that was present on those records. There's less experimentation with the instrumentation and production than with 100 Broken Windows, making this seem like a step backwards for the group. Despite all that, I can't stop listening to it.

That'll probably change when I get the new Lips' stuff tomorrow.

I'm torn on the new idlewild stuff .. don't know whether or not to buy the new album .. fromwhat I've heard, the songs themselves are still excellent, but ..hhmmm... the whole pre-recorded strings, anthemic indie, hard-sell singles thing... I prefered them when they were lo-fi punk mentalists..

The one thing that worries me most is that on American English there are a couple of moments where Roddy sounds exactly like Chris Bloody Martin from Coldplay.Apart from A Modern Way Of Letting Go and Out Of Routine, there's little evidence of the sheer raw power that they usually harness.

Regrettable Juvenilia
19:54 / 16.07.02
The motherfuckin' NEPTUNES.

There's a thread on them and their amazing midas touch on its way...

Locust No longer
21:27 / 16.07.02
Japanese neo noise rock: Fushitsusha, Keiji Haino, Shoji Hano, Mainliner, Acid Mothers Temple, and High Rise.

as well as weird drone stuff from Keneth Atchley and Jean la poirte.

Going to have to second Flyboy on the Neptunes...I don't listen to a lot of hip-hop, but every single thing that caught my attention over the last six months invariably turned out to be Neptunes produced or remixed.

Evil Ragga, drum and Bass Missy bootlegs, the Rupture (thanx Flux. Have you heard the Morgan Geist remixes?), Obscure Peaches stuff on Lex, Melt Banana, Bobby Konders feat Massive Sounds and, weirdly, the Cocteau Twins (thanx Fecund). Oh and Prince's 'Dirty Minds' is still on heavy rotation along with various snippets of chain gang music recorded God knows when and by God knows by who, 'cause I've nicked it all off mates and dunny have any info.

Just bought a load of cheapo David Axelrod CDs on a whim (I think it was the William Blake titles and the Holocaust obsession that drew me in). Looking forward to it.

Mirah: You Think Its Like This But Really Its Like This.
Its beautiful heartbreaking stuff

From La Familia:

Hey friends dont you think youd better cool it down
You're always getting curious and leaving town
You know I like it being in your family
Wonder what would happen if nobody left
We'd all sick around if we'd all sick around
And heres a question thats been tested
Tell me if we sleep together will it make it any better
If we sleep together would you be my friend forever
If we sleep together would it make it any better
If we sleep together would you
Be my friend

Hey friend listen up they're playing our song
On the radio do you have to go
I really like it this rock and roll
Makes me want a little sugar in my bowl
It like the glory days its like a fortune sold
And heres a question thats been tested
Tell me if we sleep together will it make it any better
If we sleep together would you be my friend forever
If we sleep together will it make it any better
If we sleep together would you
Be my friend

Cause none of us forget about who we are
So choose a path and follow it
Take a pill and swallow it
None of us forget about who we are

Its not forever we can fool around in the dark

i'm a lot into all this Anticon crew, from dose1 to boom bip to jel to whatever. rjd2 's got a pretty interesting LP too, and i'm digging dj vadim next album ; i saw n*e*r*d on stage 2 weeks ago and it made me listening to their frist album, not the "played" one, but the one produced a la neptune, by the neptunes (whah, what a coincidence), and some of these tracks are pop at its best (once it's in your head, you're done !). also the last cinematic orchestra, kaidi tatham album -agent k-, and some local stuff, a lot.

Strange Machine Vs The Virus with Shoes

been listening to country joe and the fish - the fish cheer/I-feel-like-I'm fixin'-to die rag, an astonishingly good song. Shakira who definately deserves to be the biggest star in the world (if thats a good thing). Manu choa, and a brilliant reggae song "jonny to bad", dont ken who by tho.

Cop Killer
05:53 / 22.07.02
Lately, I can't get enough of slowish Sabbath-y metal, mostly called stoner metal, but the Melvins fit in there too. Can't stop listening to Bongzilla, High On Fire, Electric Wizard and all their bottom heavy fuzzed out riffing (hardly any solos, just constant riffing). That and the Get Happy album by Elvis Costello and the Attractions, but that's just cuz I can't manage to get it out of my head, ever.

Spaniel
21:09 / 22.07.02
Cocteau Twins: I find their music both frustrating and compelling and I just can't stop playing it. Particularly like Garlands - you know, fun music for smackheads.

Am also obsessing over sad, moody techno/deep house. I know its corny and a cliche, but The Other People Place's 'Moonlight Rendezvous' actually makes my heart ache.
