Friend of mine just emailed me an article: at the Oscars, Paul McCartney and Peter Jackson had something to chat about, because the Beatles tried to make a version of "Lord of the Rings" in the 60s.
(George was Gandalf. John was Gollum. Ringo was Sam. I can't recall who Paul was.) JRR Tolkien, still alive and holding copyright, told them to go away.

Just heard that this weekend, actually, over on the WEF. Paul would've been Frodo, apparently.

LORD OF THE RINGOS, anyone?

Link

That was mentioned on a Tolkien biography on UK telly some time last year. Odd that it's only been picked up on now.

Worrying rumours about the UK DVD release. There'll be a PG rated 'normal' version, followed later on by a 4-disc special edition complete with all the scenes cut from the cinema release.

Except, there might not.

Don't think so. Looked for it after seeing the preview at the pictures. Wasn't there.

The web is smothered with pirate bootlegs of the trailer - none are high quality but if you ain't seen it they're better than nothing.
Check out Kazaa if you're interested.
I expect to see an official version in the next couple of weeks.

I'm a latecomer to seeing the movie, and I FUCKING LOVED IT. Haven't had this great a moviegoing experience in a loong time. Acting was terrific. My only critiques: Jackson could have shaved 2 or 3 minutes off of fighting and chase scenes, and I got a little tired of looking at Elijah Wood's big blue eyes after a bit. Other than that: one of the best movies I've *EVER* seen, period.
