I now think Simon Pegg's character is really disagreeable, where I once thought him 'cool', which has less to do with his overgrown skateboarding antics as his dislike for Brian and Vulva. And the programme's perspective is, aside from the overgrown skateboarding antics, the stupidness of which we are aware of and he is not, usually aligned closely with that of the Pegg character.
He does like Brian - he's just "not sure why". His dislike of Vulva/ Ian isn't that objectionable is it? After all Vulva's a mean-spirited, arrogant bully who's needlessly spiteful to Brian. The punch in the gob at the end of that episode is satisfying because the viewer is invited to sympathise with Brian; Tim's caginess towards Brian isn't reflected in the programme's attitude towards the character - Brian even gets to have the Magnificent Seven theme tune play when he heroically bails Tim and Daisy out in the first episode. |
