As above, lurk frequently, comment far less due to a perceived lack of knowledge on my part and excruciating shyness. On the rare occasions that I have posted I have then felt like I could see the tumbleweed drifting across the thread due to the lack of interest I aroused, so I guessed that my conversational and intellectual skills were not up to the high standards of the live board members, and I have generally refrained from posting. My issue I guess!

In all seriousness, I can here on the back of the Doctor Who thread, enjoyed reading it so much I signed up, but then felt in awe of the far more knowledgable frequent posters and unable to insert my two pennth. Other areas I enjoy include the books / literature section and the Temple, though as a non practicioner I again have no reason to post as it feels somewhat disrespectful. And Barbelith is big on respect (which is a good thing, imho).

Honestly, I think you've guessed wrong.
Don't feel you need to post if you don't want to, but don't get too overwhelmed by the fear.
There's nobody here who hasn't said anything dumb, and there are certainly some who say not much else.

At the moment there are so few posts across the board I can't imagine how anyone would mind if you just jumped in.

The Doctor Who thread always needs people to wildly speculate and talk about the show. Every year it's always my favourite thing about Barbelith and new posters can usually bring new and interesting perspectives to the conversation.

Though right now I'm going to drink my hayfever / asthma into obliteration (until tomorrow, at least) doing precisely what Smith & Papers longs to do (cheap wine and a glut of dvds, in my case probably the eye bleeding loveliness of the 300 and Sin City, followed by American Beauty and probably building up to a grand finale of, er, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I'll be unable to stand at this stage, but can still sing. Badly).

Well, if you have a look through this thread, it would seem that many of them went nowhere. They just got quieter. Add to those the few who have avoided this thread but still post, and it's actually a going concern. Small, inactive and occasionally hard work, but still there.

Now, if only folk would post more...

Here nominally. I was never that active although my MacGyver/Macready phase was my most concentrated Lith-time. Based over on Mindless Ones mostly though. (Posting as The Beast Must Die). Glad Barbelith's still here though. There's a few posters whose stuff I always enjoy.

I've toyed with the idea of posting a bit in Comics and G&G, as well as returning to the Bleach thread (I have months of episodes saved up to watch in one sitting).

However, I don't know who anyone is anymore. I spent long enough away from the board to have no idea who is behind most names these days. It makes reading threads an odd experience.

I'm here, albeit rather sparingly. Part of my lack of activity is due to a general feeling of disconnection with the majority of the userbase. Being what seems like one of the few Americans, I've had very little use for the real-life event board and haven't really been able to meaningfully post in many London-based threads in Conversation.

I still look and post occasionally but all the things that made me stop contributing regularly are still happening and have gotten worse, it seems. So I tend to abandon most of my responses. But I like most of the comics discussion and the Lost/BSG discussions.
