There had been talk of a mass exodus, but the appearance of a few trolls has (oddly enough) breathed a bit of life back into the place, IMO.

Except for lateshifts, kinda sorta. At least, you see the sentiment a lot; it really doesn't feel deader than it used to be, but I had a conveniently shoddy memory for that type of thing.

I think my decline from the comics forum is more that I want to talk about older stuff, or tropes and states, more than I want to talk about new stuff, and I don't like being a thread-starter as I haven't much talent for it.

And really, Convo and Comics were the only places here I've ever really been heavily involved in.

I love the old stuff...but prolly older than you are talking about. I'm still arguing with people that Vince Colletta should have been locked up instead of allowed to ink Jack Kirby's art.

No, actually, that's about where I'm at with most of my right-now comics interest. The odd choices in detail of Bill Everett, or what exactly Steve Gerber brought to the comics vernacular. And, to bring it up to the mid-nineties at least, those waves wherein superheroes are made middle-aged and then made young again. Leather jackets and stubble in The Avengers and the thirty-something-ying of the original X-Men of like '94.

Weird topics that may or may not catch on, and so they never get posted.

Ah Gerber.

Damn. I almost wish I hadn't had an e-mail correspondence with him. It would have made his passing a lot easier. His work in the 70's was so far ahead of its time, and just didn't fit into the type of comics published, I wish he would have dove into Underground comix instead of Marvel. But, he had to make a living.

If you REALLY want to get deep in comics history, the Yahoogroups for Timely are a great way to eavesdrop on comics historians.

I'll have to look for the Yahoo! Group and check it out. I don't have the tenacity or memory for it like some people do, but I do find the stuff fascinating in passing.

I'm off to bed. Have fun everyone!

Night, SR.

I think I need a fresh pot of coffee, myself.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
03:51 / 08.04.08
I'M BACK!

Instead of writing the werewolf story I started a wicked awesome surrealist porn story -- rather unexpectedly -- for the anthology that my librarian friend wants to put together, based around the theme of "lifelike." I love it, so far, even in its early draft form. I don't typically write sex, which is probably a good thing based on how weird this one is. It's like -- vacuous pornography. If that isn't redundant.

But the first coffee shop we went to, our usual haunt, closes early as of today for summer hours. The second coffee shop smelled of terribly burnt coffee. The third and final shop was okay but the tables are too small and everybody in there seemed to be on a first date which is HILARIOUS. We're looking for an alternate locale for next week.

Bursting free secretive from the unassuming chest: I AM THE LATESHIFT REBORN

"Get your hands off of her, YOU BITCH!"

Hi.

Nice seeing you all again.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
03:58 / 08.04.08
Kali!

You know, I was thinking about you the other day. I can't remember why, though.

This Sunday
04:17 / 08.04.08
Hiya, whomever's left! I return.

Kali, good to see you around again. Housing issues over, I hope?

And, while I'm doing the checking up thing, Papers, did your work situation ever smooth over?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
04:43 / 08.04.08
Yeah, we've been working since Thursday. Decent new contract. Tomorrow's the first open to the public day.

This Sunday
04:51 / 08.04.08
Cool. Be nice to get back to normal work, with a normalized schedule, I'd presume.

The phone finally stopped for the day, here, and the silence is kinda weirding me out.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
04:59 / 08.04.08
Please let us know if you begin to make ringing noises and answer imaginary calls.

This Sunday
05:06 / 08.04.08
My luck, they'd be trying to sell me imaginary siding.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
05:21 / 08.04.08
If you're lucky, I'll take you snark-hunting.

PMing you the first paragraph of something. I'd post, but it's a little Not Work Safe.

This Sunday
06:04 / 08.04.08
And that's it for me. I have to at least pretend to be conscious tomorrow around dawn (and thought it was just now ten, when it's... later).

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
01:29 / 12.04.08
Hour and a half of work left! Until tomorrow morning, anyway. Come to me, my Lateshift; heal my strangled brain.

This Sunday
01:47 / 12.04.08
Hiya!

I'm sorta around. Doing alright.

And left with no work I can't ignore until tomorrow.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
01:52 / 12.04.08
Sweet.

I'm actually scheduling myself writing time for next week, after feeling depressive and understimulated by my life today. I feel this rush of ... desire, desire to really push myself to do things.

What work are you ignoring?

Hi Deca. How's things?

This Sunday
02:21 / 12.04.08
Pretty good. Except I kinda broke my glasses/had them broken for me, so they don't stay on my face.

This Sunday
02:33 / 12.04.08
How's by you? Become a teetotaling Disney-fanatic, or, y'know, have you kept your wits about you?

Saint Keggers
02:39 / 12.04.08
not a chance. I like my boozamahol and hate disney.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
02:51 / 12.04.08
Ten minutes! And then I can go watch Lucky Number Slevin with the Accomplice and ice cream.

Saint Keggers
02:54 / 12.04.08
I did not like that movie.

This Sunday
03:08 / 12.04.08
I know it had a pretty good cast, but other than that, it's completely slid by me unnoticed.

Me, I'm gonna watch Streets of Fire tonight! Because I can't help myself.

Dearest Barbelith,

I know this sounds lame and stupid, but I don't have a Live Journal account, and one of my old timey favourite authors does. Her kitten, one that she adopted after her one of her old cats died, is very sick, quite unexpectedly. I would like to give her my condolences but I can't as I am not a LiveJournal member. Please help if you can.

Thanks,

Kali

This Sunday
03:33 / 12.04.08
Hey, Kali. No Livejournal access, I'm afraid. Hope an avenue presents itself for you.

How're you doing, otherwise?

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
03:44 / 12.04.08
Oh, I'm well. Just upset that somebody I respect is having her ass handed to her in ways I will never try to pretend to know; but to be honest, it's reading that one of her newly adopted kittens (with a twin brother!) has one of those incomprehensible diseases that animals are afflicted with. And it looks bleak.

Please pardon my bleeding heart, y'all.

03:53 / 12.04.08
Seeing has how Barbelith has held onto lolcats even as they wither across the internets, I'd sort of assumed we didn't allow anyone on whom cats did not have a very strong influence.
