Hells yeah it snows in Kentucky!
If there are no hills in the part of Kentucky Liger's in, it must be the bluegrass region or near the Ohio River or something. Kentucky is sweet (sometimes).

Just dont get sick. Sheesh. I didnt think I'd have to say something so obvious.

Oh, look, I arrived just in time to not see a horrifying brain-damaging pic of Billy Idol that would ruin my snarly image of him.

Hey, all! While I'm glad I never had to see that picture, I too am missing snow. And Canada. And Kentucky, really. But, I have bourbon and my heater sucks, so it's almost the same, and definitely puts me in the chistmassy mood. A christmassy mood, anyway.

Kentucky? It snows in Kentucky?

Not often, but we get some real doozy ice storms. I grew up in St. Louis, though, and they get lots of snow (and lots of good sledding hills.)

anyone know where I can get a pattern for a straight jacket?

Papess
02:01 / 27.11.07
Me too, I'd love to have some of that there National Health Care y'all got up there. Then I could quit my job and get one where I don't have to work EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND.

OMG! Yeah! The health care is out of control there! Or the lack of it. I was listening to a radio show the other day warning Canadians who go down there to shop to get some temporary Health Insurance coverage. $25CAN, could apparently save THOUSANDS on US medical expenses, should something happen.

Straightjacket? Extend the sleeves, put on in reverse, and add ties or buckles.

Tsuga

It's sad and ridiculous (the health care thing yes, but), I live in the mountains, we get more snow around here than anywhere else in the south, there are tons of slopes and a ski resort five miles away, but I have not been sledding or skiing once in the 14 years I've lived here. Not that it's all about me. I hope you nice folks have a nice time not being shiftless while I'm drifting off.

As a matter of fact, Tsuga, I'm in Lexington.

Oh, look, I arrived just in time to not see a horrifying brain-damaging pic of Billy Idol that would ruin my snarly image of him.

He's still snarly, albeit in a more subtle way. Which only enhances his dapperness.

Did Tsuga just kill our shift?

Saint Keggers
02:13 / 27.11.07
I hope not. That's where I keep all my stuff!

No, I killed the shift.

But I did not shoot the deputy.

HEY! I just found out tonight that my hard drive has two USB ports in the front!

Sadly, I have had the HD for about 4 years and just realised today.

Saint Keggers
02:21 / 27.11.07
Front mounted usb ports are the most handy things on y computer.

I only recently found out that I had, like, four usb ports in the back of my computer.

What are you looking at me like that for?

This Sunday
02:25 / 27.11.07
My usb ports are dead. All of them. I may cry.

Wait, no. I'll just have another drink.

Saint Keggers
02:26 / 27.11.07
When connecting the usb ports make sure you connect them correctly. 2 ruined flashdrives later I learned that lesson.

Liger Null
02:30 / 27.11.07
You could always cry into your drink, Deca. If all my usb ports were dead, I'd prolly do something stupid like throw my computer out the window.

Papess

HI DECA!

What are you looking at me like that for?

He is just shaking his eyes at you!

The only thing keeping the tears at bay - beside the fine drink - is that the usb ports dying is the last remnant of my whole computer temporarily dying a horrible death. Barely a click when you tried to turn it on, not even a hum or a flicker of light. Then, a week later, while I was looking into buying a new one, I tempted fate, pressed the button, and on went the computer, virtually as though nothing were wrong. Then I tried to change up my ipod, and discovered (and confirmed with other things) that the usb ports were dead, the firewire port still good, and the headphone jack working but giving out a lot.

So I'm happy the machine works at all.

Is there any way you can just have the broken bits fixed or replaced?

My technical ignorance is showing isn't it?

Saint Keggers
02:41 / 27.11.07
It sounds like a problem with the power supply. I really have no idea. I say that because, in my case, every computer death has been the result of power supplies behaving badly.

It's about seven years old, bought used as a temporary machine, and only capable of running Mac OS 10.3.9 and nothing higher, which means, even the kinds of browsers, at the levels it can run them, will soon prevent me from using it as an access-the-internet device, leaving me with only Word and Photoshop. So, eventually, really, for the money it would take, I'll just have to plunk down for a new machine. One that can actually run FinalDraft, since that revolution came and passed me by and making PDFs out of Word documents somehow annoys people (I can't tell the difference, really, but that's me).

Embracing the future and all that. But not now. For now, it's me and my crippled machine and whisky and coffee, pretending the future isn't rushing by to become the past.

Saint Keggers
02:46 / 27.11.07
The future cant rush by when the present is staying put.

The upside is someday you'll be able to get an exciting, shiny new computer!

But, yeah, planned obsolescence sucks.

Sorry to change the topic, but I am getting an infestation of Ladybugs quite suddenly. WTF?

I guess they saw the pic in the thread.

Liger Null

They've come to worship the Great Ladybug God.

I am getting an infestation of Ladybugs quite suddenly.

Right, then. Hope I forget tonight, or if you ever visit the name change thread, I'll post a suggestion of Lordy Ladybug.

Isn't it awfully chilly for ladybugs? Unless they're trying to get warm, I suppose.

Papess
03:06 / 27.11.07
YEAH, it is chilly for bugs, generally. The only place I have ever seen ladybugs live in the winter, in the freezing cold, was at a monastery during a retreat. There were hundreds of them.

HOwever, this is the same place that foxes will eat out of your hand.

Liger Null
03:13 / 27.11.07
EEEEE-Foxes!!!!!

I think artificial heat and light confuse insects. They're all, "It's getting cold, time to migrate or pass on. But hey, there's this nice warm place, I think I'll crash here for awhile." And they do.

This Sunday
03:20 / 27.11.07
Not so much confused, then, as lucking out. Except for the bug zappers and flyswatters and rolled up newspapers and all that, I guess.

Other than being occasionally smacked by one mid-flight, or having them crawling around, are they much of a nuisance, though? End of summer, when I'm slightly north of here in Ventura County, we have beetles fly through that necessitate double-checking a glass before drinking from it, and not jumping out of your skin every time something taps you on the shoulder when you ought to be alone in a room... but that's the extent of their damage.

Papess
03:25 / 27.11.07
Well, I think Ladybugs in particular, do a mass huddle thing where they enter into diapause or a state of low metabolic activity.

At the monastery, they would huddle on the windows and would only wake up with the sun's warmth. However, the incredible amount of them seemed unlikely, in any case.

I recently had this weird fruit fly infestation. They took to sneaking into my freezer whenever I opened the door, and then dying on my ice cubes. It was pretty gross.
