Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
02:04 / 17.09.07
Firing edit suggestions at Princess and working on my story. Now I'm editing my friend's PhD thesis introduction for him. There was brunch this morning and the place is clean. Productive.

a story eh...?

Brunch is always approved of.

just tried to watch some Jimmy Carr standup...then I realised he was a twat...so that failed. Sticking with Eddy Izzard.

Jimmy Car is the guy who realised that comedy hadn't been all that bigoted for a while, and that it would seem new and interesting to go back to that type of material.
He has a style of delivery that beceomes more and more predictable with every time you suffer a performance, and I am consisntently underwhelmed by him. I'm often shocked by how many people seem to like his shit, however.

Personaly, I think if he were to be hit by a bus it might be his greatest work.
Certainly it would be funnier than any one of his remade Jim Davidson jokes are.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
03:03 / 17.09.07
c0n-- Yuh. Story. Detective story. It's pretty shoddy at the moment but it's still early drafts season. Although I seem to have been sucked into finding CBC podcasts and fresh music to acquire. Damn it all. Damn.

Ah well.

I might try to squeeze out a couple more paragraphs and shut off this ghastly machine for the night. Do the dishes and then descend into sleep.

I was however impressed by how many bigoted and prejudicial comments he managed to squeeze in to the three minutes that I could stomach watching him for, in a bizarre kinda way.

By impressed I obviously mean disgusted, I mean really...homophobia, misogyny AND racism in three minutes...guh...I despair that such a gutter-mouthed imbecile gets prime time viewing. I feel soiled and want to claim my three minutes back. Is there an official body I can write to?

@pascal

detective story in what vein? Because if it's a 1940's radio play stlyee you may well be my new hero!

I'm a big fan of The Shadow...although that's not exactly a straight detective story I guess.

What sort of music are you looking for? The hunt is always on in this house and fresh leads are always appreciated...

Stoatie gets a big thumbs up for suggesting The Boredoms at some point that I can't recall through my Strongbow-induced haze.

Yes, but in these situations a paper trail isn't really that good an idea...

Does he irritatingly do the 'this joke is really really offensive'' preface, all the time, like Carlos Mencia?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

Strongbow!

Hotel Detective, anachronistic stylings. I've often tried to do an Inner Sanctum-style radio story thing but it always gets put on the backburner.

Super Furry Animals was my latest musical acquisition.

Best: No, worse, he prefaces most of his jokes with "this is post-modern [racism/mysogyny/etc]"

pacal, good choice. 'Rings of Saturn' (?) is a favourite album rouynd these parts. In a similar vein and if you haven't already, try and check out The Flaming Lips. I just 'Aquired' their entire back catalogue and I must say it FUCKING rocks!

And Life Critic, not a bad idea, but I'm saving that one for when I REALLY need it...

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
03:24 / 17.09.07
I just acquired "Hey Venus" by the SFA.

Flaming Lips are an old favourite, particularly "Yoshimi versus the Pink Robots."

Char Aina
03:24 / 17.09.07
Not quite, but he does do a line in "oh, so you laughed at x, but y isn't okay?" for when he gets an "oooo" in place of a laugh.
He's being ironic, of course. That's why he can ironically keep his ironic bum to the ironic wall and his ironic hand on his ironic wallet when a gay black man is in the room.

And yes, those are both the kinds of things he jokes about, and with wearying regularity.

YES! Yoshimi! possibly the most affecting anime-based concept album ever. Or the only one. I forget.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

There's another album where she faces off against some tigers, isn't there?

life critic: indeed. I stopped watching at the "you might think I'm gay in the sense that I like shoes and notice when my femal friends change their hair but I don't want your cock up my arse" joke...did I say joke? ummm...hatespeech even.

maybe the hit IS a good idea...

reeeallly? yoshimi versus tigers? Sounds like something I should hear...any idea of the title?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

I may be mistaken, as I can't seem to find it.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

Now I've gotten stuck in a Dandy Warhols vortex!

03:52 / 17.09.07
tch, my hopes raised only to be cruelly dashed. Ah well, it DID sound to good to be true! Dandy Warhols eh? I have '13 tales...' but have never delved deeper. Any recommendations?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
03:54 / 17.09.07
13 Tales is the one I like the most. Bits and pieces off the other ones, though, are good.

And regarding Strongbow. Like many things, it seems like a good idea at the time, but OH how you will REGRET it! Plus it's made of onions and no drink should be able to boast of that...

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
04:00 / 17.09.07
I tend to prefer Merridale, which is local, to Strongbow. But, ah, cider...

c0nstant
04:01 / 17.09.07
on the other hand I now have 11 pints of the stuff in at my previous place of emplOyment, so maybe I shouldn't complain to much. It does the job after all...

04:30 / 17.09.07
Ah, now. Cider is a different matter. I love the stuff. We have a pub near us that has a different 'real' cider on pump every week. Some of it's lethal though (8.4% plus!)!

Also perrys. Not nearly so common but bloody lovely! Pear cider, how could anyone dislike the idea!

c0nstant
04:32 / 17.09.07
I put 'real' in scare-quotes cos I don't really feel like being associated with those CAMRA types. Beardy twats for the most part. Possibly a slightly unfair generalisation, but having worked in a fair few pubs over the last year or two one that does seem to be damningly accurate. Which is a shame really, as their cause is rather noble.

Fired off a monster post in the All-Star Superman thread, so I'm feeling remarkably energized and electric.

How are things going you guys? I have been busy procrastinating, partying and studying, in that order. How are your lives?

This Sunday

I'm still kinda really relieved and happy that I'm where I am, as I'd had a bit of mix up where I thought my plane was leaving a day later than it actually was. And hours of stress and pleasure in just about equal measure, taking their toll.
