New is good. Usually. Lateshifts so good they burn the husk quicker and need new forms appeal to me. Butterflies and phoenixes.

Glad to see you happy, Kali. How's everybody else?

Meh. Im alright, debating whether to open a mylast bottle of wine or keep it for when a friend comes over this friday.

I'm a bit meh as well (and reserve the right to free-associate in this space with Google imagery). But glad to see everyone. I believe I might be Eeyore.

I guess I shouldnt open the wine, I read that last bit as "I think I might be an eyesore"

Most...painful...misreading...ever.

This Sunday
02:48 / 01.08.07
I'm moving slowly out of the feeling guilty for being praised and more than a bit of a fraud territory and into full-on my ego could whoop Godzilla and then teach him to tango in ten minutes levels. I don't believe I've ever had an international call of praise before. Much less, multiple. And the next few months' rent have, so long as everything pans out, fallen into place nicely. I'm generally hand to mouth, so that's a nice change.

Bear in mind the great maxim of drinking, Venger: It may not make things make any more sense, but you'll have an excuse.

COngrats DN.

So is that a vote for "open it?"

electric monk
02:52 / 01.08.07
Make that two votes!

This Sunday
02:53 / 01.08.07
So is that a vote for "open it?"

Usually. This time: definitely.

I'd open one if I had such on hand.

Duh, rude me.

Yay for Kali and DN's respective happys! Tell us of the vehicles that brought your souls to these lofty heights!

Mmmm... wine. Sorry friend who will not have wine, but the people has spoken!

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
03:12 / 01.08.07
Yeah, but here's how I'm kinda lame.

So I've discovered this sort of torrenting bit for telly shows and now I'm totally watching My So-Called Life and completely having flashbacks about my teenage years.

It's kinda gross, but very much apt. This show was really ahead of its time.

Saint Keggers
03:16 / 01.08.07
Is that the one with Claire Danes?

This Sunday
03:21 / 01.08.07
Good. Hate to think I'm the only one drinking here. And I haven't figured out how to offer drinks over the interweb.

As for happies, it's mostly just that, in what I laughingly (and sometimes angrily, pettily, and bemusedly) refer to as my career as a rewrite monkey, I'm used to the bits I love the most being lost, cut, or altered until the point has been lost, and some things I reparsed, some I added completely of my own accord, are apparently staying intact. More than that, I've been getting calls and e-mails from points in Japan, Holland, and Alaska (which is big and distant enough it might as well count as international) from people who're apparently really happy with the new stuff. I've been given a thousand dollar retainer on a short piece, which isn't huge money, but... it's a thousand dollars to leave something alone for a few months and let someone else worry about it.

My head is very easily turned. I'm easily entertained and easily impressed, and very easily complimented. Phone messages that go on about scene X as 'why I keep trying to sleep with you' make me giddy. (Also, they make me ask 'Wuh? When?') So much better than being told it's too adult, too confusing, too gay, what have you.

I always wanted to watch that show. I had a friend, when it was airing, who was desperately in obsession with Danes' character, but I had no cable, then. And I don't believe I've ever seen it rerun anywhere.

Saint Keggers
03:28 / 01.08.07
I miss Northern Exposure.

This Sunday
03:40 / 01.08.07
How can so many shows rerun on television, and yet almost none of them worth watching even once? Even the law of percentages says we ought to at least get ten percent not-crap, right?

Of course, this would be coming from someone who saw all but two episodes of Desperate Housewives last season, so...

I am off to thee bed, I think. Enjoy yourselves. Be well.

And pleasant dreams...

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
03:52 / 01.08.07
GOOD MORNING!

I mean, evening.

I mean, I've been drinking.

And writing. Drinking and writing. With strong results - I finished the bar scene and now we're on to the next murder!

This Sunday
03:53 / 01.08.07
Night, monk.

Hm. Nightmonk. There's a mid-season replacement series about a superhero and some unsubtlely christian working hidden in that, somewhere. Or, Tony Shaloub angsting in tights. Let us never speak of it again unless there's money involved.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

To wit--

Seared beetroot & goat cheese thingees.

Crab/Goat cheese/pastry/etc things.

Dark chocolate rum torte avec whipped mascapone flavoured with espresso.

Glass of Damasco white wine.

Glass of peach-hinted Cherry Point pinot gris, Vancouver Island winery.

Is there more monkeys, Papers? A live one, perhaps?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
03:56 / 01.08.07
No, it's a dead University research grants official type person.

No more monkeys yet, but I want to do something bigger and more ridiculuous with the damned salamanders.

I need to transcribe a couple pages of handwritten stuff into the computer tonight before beddy-bye.

This Sunday
04:01 / 01.08.07
Do know that me and my night of whisky and mac and cheese are very jealous of your menu.

So long as you keep your detective kindy unintentionally jerky, I think the story can stand not having any new monkeys. Probably keep you from having to make a Detective Chimp allusion, too.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
04:06 / 01.08.07
Jack's a pretty jerky woman, I have to say. I love her. I've been rereading CASANOVA since the next issue may or may not be out tomorrow, and the layered approach to storytelling is exactly what I want to do with this story.

Dinner was extremely lovely. It was really just tapas at this nice hole-in-the-wall joint with multiple patios nestled in strange gardens. The busboy was very blond and very emo. The waiter had a way of leaving in the middle of a sentence, even when that sentence had everything to do with what was on special; consequently, we ordered the aubergine mousse only to be told that it was an aubergine soup, which wasn't really going to it the business as a share plate, so we went with the beetroot thing.

And then we stumbled away, bought a couple bottles of wine (one to engage with tonight & one for the dinner party tomorrow, which I'm doing pancakes and berry compote for - a riesling to suit the breakfast-dessertiness of my selected menu), then back to my buddy's place to write, write, write up a storm.

Yeah: the one with Claire Danes. Before she became somewhat of a homewrecker.

Quite. I know this may make no difference to my Lateshift crew, but I started to purge myself. Because I think these small past crap things are an impediment..

And really??? My So-Called Life was a really good, if uncomfortably familiar show.

"whisky and mac and cheese"

mmmm that sounds awesome!

This Sunday
04:10 / 01.08.07
Cool. I ended up going out and buying new old comics, instead of just rereading. Filled in my collection of Astonishing X-Men (which, I, sadly, had stopped looking at before the great Victorian spoilt idiot Wolverine), some random Defenders. Burnt out most of the day just reading and fielding increasingly enjoyable phonecalls. So, carry over from yesterday, basically.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

I should make M&C soon. It's one of my favourite recipes, with feta and parmesan and broccoli in there.
