I'm in London after Seth's Gunbuster Marathon (that's next week and maybe slightly beyond) staying with a pal, but I'd dearly like to meet any of the Londolith that would be so incllined. Easy for dates within that time really, though I reckon the following weekend's a good bet.

If anyone's loose during the days and up for meeting then that'd be cool too. Tight budget and time to kill means I could be yours for nothing more than a friendly handshake and a pleasent smile......

Any events of notice and cheapness I should know about?

Ta!

What date is that? If it's around the 11 August then there should be a Morning Bride live show as part of the N16 fringe. I say should, because the venue which was going to be used now can't be.

It's very possible if I watch my budget. I'll be able to give a better answer mid-week.

Still up for meeting before then if it's not too short notice.

Made my first blind soujourn through London from Victoria to Waterloo today. Lovely city you guys have. Felt very comfortably at home, actually.

Stuff to see at every corner!

I'm around all week from Monday.

I'm off work Tuesday and Wednesday, so would be up for something in the daytime for sure (am not free ij the evenings unfortunately)! Stoatie, shall we show the Doctor around town?

Well why the fuck not?

Splendid! That sounds like a plan and a half. What do you suggest we get up to? New city with lots to see, so I'm not too fussed about seeing any one thing in particular as long as it's new.

I managed to walk past Big Ben the other day just as it was starting to chime, so that's the main touristy stuff covered at least.

I also looked up. Just to seal the deal.

Thinking of things to do in the evening next week, on of the essential ones light well be The Owlls, who are playing live on Friday 3rd. at a bowling alley in Bloomsbury, which is apparently very Fifties. The Owlls, as many here will testify, rock. I'm planning to go, and I bet Stoatie and Mono are too. Why not join us?

Yeah, I might well take you up on that. Still not decided, but it's looking unlikely I'll be sticking around until the 11th.

In London at the moment, though I'm sitting on my lonesome in a room in .....um... the East End somewhere as my host is away sorting out relationship stuff with his ladyfriend.

Actually... it appears I'm only a stone's throw from Stokey, on the opposite side of Victoria Park.

That's really close! Do you want to meet tomorrow? personally, I think that you should come to Stokey for brunch/lunch/tea and then a walk around our friggin amazing overgrown cemetary. Then we can decidewhere to go from there. what do you say, chaps?

Mon Oncle Ignatius
11:00 / 30.07.07
I'm working tomorrow daytime, but there are local hostelries to attend in the evening, possibly. The Doctor might be amused by the legend that is The Roch - it's the perfect place to collapse after a trip around the cemetery.

Sounds good! I'll ring tomorrow.

I had time today so I walked around Grenwich and Canary Wharf, where my friend works. Saw the observatory and generally wandered about, lying on grass and appreciating the sun.

That was a lot of fun!

Been shown around Stokey by the lovely Ms. Mono Chrome and Mr. Stoatie, from the rather excellent local cemetary all the way down to the local pubs. Special mention to the most distinguished Sir. Ognarud Suitangi-Ognajd for inviting us along to an interesting night, in which a man recited poetry while spilling out the top of a skimpy pair of green vinyl pants.

Also thanks again to Mono for taking me round the Tate Modern on her card, even if I was probably slightly shite company, being absolutely knackered from a three-hour blind walk through Hackney back to bow in the wee hours of the night before. I think I probably owe you the tackiest Scottish souvenir I can find when I get home.

I think The Owlls gig is a definite goer. If anyone else from the London squad would like to meet for drinks in the....um.... Princess Louise(?) beforehand then give me a shout.

The Owlls show at the Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes tomorrow night is free before 10pm - so get there early. Apparently the support act, Rum Circus, are well worth checking out too, but Owlls are quality stuff - with a new drummer on board now as well.

Today I walked into what looked like a Terr'ist incident!

Pedestrians stumbling out of thick plumes of suffocating smoke! Policemen in big vests putting up tape! Fire engines and police cars screaming around! A strange looking van at the centre of it all!

I took video. I'm such a tourist.

Turns out it wasn't as exciting as we thought. Because it was just his engine on fire or something.

I think they did it just for me. I'm sure I saw a policeman giving an officeworker a knowing wink and doff of his cap as I walked by.

Well that's me back home now.

I had a lot of fun and was made to feel very welcome by you all, even if the timing wasn't the greatest for some to feel as sociable as they otherwise might. Also there's several of the non-Stokey Londolith I've been told that I particularly have to meet, so I'm going to do my best to corner you lot next time around.

Thanks for all the hospitality, people. There ain't a bastard among yez. I hope I'll see you all again soon.

It was great seeing you too - we'll have to have a rematch.

Of all the fun parts of hanging out with The Doctor, hir recognizing Sleazenation before any of us outside a crowded pub in the West End was the highlight. That and the green vinyl pants, of course.

I seem to have an uncanny knack for recognising green vinyl pants, it's true.

Much of a curse as a gift, that one.

It was lovely indeed, and I promise next time I'll try to be a bit further away from the depths of despair. (You hear that, people? NOBODY is allowed to dump me while Barbelith friends are visiting).

If anybody'll be about Saturday Aug 18 and up for a drink, I believe I'll be in town.

Mon Oncle Ignatius
09:52 / 14.08.07
I'll be around and about, most likely - and that night there is a) doom metal of a brutal kind in Stoke Newington and b) a late-night showing of Pan's Labyrinth at The Rio in Dalston, if anyone is up for it.

i might be around, but i fear that it's very short notice to begin cat herding... in fact I'd be amazed if a venue can be agreed upon in what, slightly less than 24 hours?

HCE
10:44 / 18.08.07
I'm afraid that as a rather bewlidered visitor I am more cat than herder, but if somebody can get word to me of where I should be I will endeavor to get myself there.

I've acquired a bit of a sore throat, I'm afraid, so I think it's best if I avoid pubs and so forth until I'm feeling a bit perkier. Hopefully later in the week?

Mon Oncle Ignatius
20:35 / 20.08.07
Hope the sore throat gets better soon - later in the week I'll be in Barcelona; hopefully having a few drinks with the Adjective Nouns (which I think is actually on topic, weirdly).

Feeling a bit better, thanks - hope drinks with the Adj Ns goes well.

The drinks were excellent, and the company sparkling - it was terrific to see both the Adjective Nouns, and hopefully more of Lurid next time too.

Barcelona is lots of fun, especially the fairy grotto bar which Childe F hasn't stopped talking about all week. Now to try to get her back to London waking hours.

Sounds good! (I can say these things now, because I'll be living there soon.)

(London, that is. Not the Plough.)

Mon Oncle Ignatius
14:40 / 07.09.07
Would anyone want to live at The Plough?

That could be good - will check the diary. Ah - that weekend has a dubious industrial night in Stoke Newington on 22nd September, but I'm not sure if I'm up for it. The last one was good though. Anyone fancy a darkened room full of people dressed in black dancing to Front 242 to giant back projections of democracy decaying? After the Pluff, of course.

sounds good to me, it's time we had another sojourn at the Plough. I think the cat lives there. Or one used to anyway. Presumably it wanted to or else it wouldn't have.
