I think you spelled "Naked for Trevor" wrong, there, son.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

*sigh* Maybe a we need a generic promotional thread around here.

jhw, while I am teh big fan an' all, this would probably have been better placed in the pre-existing bat-thread, or, I dunno, a pre-existing discussion about your work.

Naughty, basically

yeah i know it is bad ettiquette hence the apology in the posting. i just wasn't sure where to do it properly and wanted to share it all with you. please accept my humbleness. also for some reason my post is only showing the nakedfatrave site. there is also jhwilliams3.com. i'm not sure what happened there. i guess if a moderator wants to move this thread to something they feel is more suited then i say go for it. anyway thanks for your understanding and graciousness.

Putting the website info (and I can see both sites in the first both, FYI) in the Batman thread seems to make perfect sense.

(or at least I *could* see both sites listed earlier, now I see only the fatraves site)

I'm no moderator or anything, but apart from maybe having put this in Creation and having a bit more of an opening post on the context of the site and the work on it, I'm not really sure what the deal with this has always been.

Barbelith isn't particularly inundated with spammers and as far as I can see it, allowing space for creatives to show their work and discuss with the rest of the board can only really be a benificial thing for a place that many feel to be increasingly stagnant. And well, it's not as if there's not precedent for that anyways.

I'd propose a move to Creation and maybe a flag-up in The Barbelith Pager and, as Boboss suggests, the Batman thread.

Liking the site a lot anyway. Particularly the thumbnail-to-finished Desolation Jones pages. Always makes the ridiculously good seem much more attainable.

Absolutely - I look forward to seeing JHW3 sticking around to discuss comics, field inquiries, and generally do all the things that involved members of a board do and advertisers do not.

iamus
21:58 / 03.07.07
Well, aye

Genuine involvement in the thread he started is a must, I'd say. I don't think it would be doing the board an incredible amount of damage if that's what he wanted to limit it to though.

Plenty of posters visit only the few select areas they have interest in with minimal involvement elsewhere on the board.

There are two links in the first post -- the HTML got a bit jumbled is all. A fix is in the works.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

Done and done, Matt.

I really don't mind JHW3 dropping by to direct our attention to something he's working on, because frankly his work makes me very happy - but locating a relevant thread or simply fleshing out his opening thread posts a bit would go great distances to making the whole thing a bit more conducive to (a) conversation and (b) board harmony.

It's not like he's a troll or a spammer. He's working with Grant. So I mean there's that.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

But the connectors have been closed!

And, more seriously, his passing into the divine radiance of the Mozzer does not make him perfect in our eyes. He's a board member like any other. But, perhaps we should take this over to the comics mods policy thread to discuss how we'd like to see promotion threads handled in the future?

this is all very interesting to me for sure. i think having a section for this sort of thing isn't a bad idea but you would probably still get others like myself butting into threads annoyingly just to shout this sort of thing out. it actually didn't occur to me to post in the batman thread because that was about batman in particular and i have very little to do with that on a regular basis. it seemed best at the time to place it where i did because of my general affiliation with this board. however, that said, i will try to be more appropriate if i do something like this again. i unintentionally kept the post brief due to my being too busy around the home. and contacting colleagues to let them know about the site as well. no excuses though, just unthoughtful behavior on my part.

anyway i hope the site is to your liking and that the gallery intrigues you enough to check back with it as things progress. and yes there are batman pages in there but only from the first issue of the arc. more to come later.

I understand why you didn't put this in the Batman thread - I knew when I suggested it that it was an imperfect fix.

The site itself looks good. Out of interest, are you planning on selling any art?

18:30 / 04.07.07
hey there boboss
yes there will be art for sale on the site. i'm going to be preparing an online store for this over the next few months. but in the meantime if you email me i will reply with a list of what is available. contact me through my site. and thanks for asking.

Screw grant, jhw3 made my favourite art of the last few years. If we can tolerate It Came From The Sea etc etc. then why not pimping good comic art? If Macready is allowed then I say other peeps should be too.

@jhw3- Dude, when or where can I get a poster of the final issue of Promethea bigger than A4? With the text? And where can I find an online image of the UNDERSTAND tree-of-life underground map? I just trawled through your gallery and didn't see it, but I know it's online somewhere.

17:01 / 05.07.07
hey there quantum
whence i finally get the online store up and running there will be a very limited amount of the promethea 32 full size poster sets available. these are from my personal stock of artist proofs and they are signed by alan and myself. as far as the railway map version of the tree of life...i;m not sure where my copy of that is at the moment and if i'm remembering correctly it was designed by steve moore. if i come across it here i will get it up on the site.

John Coulthart did the Underground Tree of Life. You can get it on a tee-shirt, even.

That's some truly beautiful gloved fist illustration there, but is the hand holding the bolo mechanical or am I looking at it funny?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
04:04 / 06.07.07
Looking at it funny, Dec. The one with the foil has what looks like a metal forearm guard, but the one with the bolo has a glove on, that's it...

ah, my apologies to mister coulthart. i should know better since i bloody worked on the series. just goes to show the frailties of the human mind when focused on something else for awhile. glad some of you are digging the third batman cover. i really tried to push the boundries of what people might expect from the average batman/superhero cover. i wanted to push things into a pop-art or surrealist territory with these but still have that sense of over the top drama that superhero books have. and to see if i could come up with something that would stand out from the usual stuff on the shelf. when i turned in that cover i was half thinking the powers that be at DC were going to ask what fuck was i doing with their flagship book. but pleasantly, no one batted an eye lash.

hey there mark VII
in regards to those posters you will just have to keep checking the site over the next 6 months as the store starts to develop. everything will be offered as a first come first served basis whence the items are listed. beyond that the process will be simple because the store will run with buy it now buttons and function using paypal.

Just wanted to say that the sites look great, and I'm looking forward to seeing more stuff up there. Coincidentally, I just picked up the fifth Promethea trade and I really enjoyed the discussion of what went into that last issue. Sounds like it was an intimidatingly challenging process, but it definitely turned out well. It hasn't left my wall since I read it.

Oh, and while you're here, anything you can tell us about the creator Vertigo owned series that Grant said he was doing with you? Even if it's just an "it's in the works," it'd be reassuring.

hey there patrickMM
yeah grant and i are still going to do a creator owned project its just a matter of when. i know he has a lot going on right now as well as i. other company commitments. i've got a big project that is about to be started and i need to finish my obligations to that first. this will be announced in San Diego this month. in the meantime grant and i will will be discussing the creator owned project so he can start writing it. hopefully he will be ready when i'm ready.
