Am I the only one excited to see how this plays in with all the Civil War stuff? How is the public going to react now they find out the heroes calling for registration are the same ones who reallllllllly pissed off the Hulk?

From Profile for Things Within A Shiny Watch: The Hulk has always been exactly as strong and tough as he needs to be to make whatever story they want to tell with him work. Which is exactly as it should be as far as I'm concerned.

Sure, Hulk is strongest there is! Hulk angry! Etc. etc. etc. but can't that get out of hand? Black Bolt has always been built up as being immeasurably powerful if he only would let loose, but he gets beaten without pause by this new Hulk. That seems ridiculous. Who's next? Galactus? The Sentry won't stand a chance if he goes up against Hulk, but I don't think he will. He's too much of a friend to the Hulk to ever fight him (he wouldn't even fight the Inhumans in Silent War).

Wait, why am I complaining? This is going to be Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe times a million! Awesome.

Well sure it can. But so can anything, if it's written badly. The trick is to walk the line, so it remains a good story, and personally I think the concept of the Hulk being back, madder than ever, and determined to smash the whole world has a lot of potential, and to tell that story the Hulk needs to be really, really strong. Not quite Galactus beating strong, but strong enough that none of the non-cosmic characters can defeat him in battle.

Sure, he needs the power, but I think starting the whole thing off with Black Bolt being defeated was too concrete of a show. Assumedly, the Hulk is not going to kill everyone, so he will be stopped somehow. I would have liked to have the idea of Black Bolt or The Sentry being able to maybe defeat him, if they chose to.

But this does make my mind go crazy thinking about how they WILL defeat him.

What if Hulk is a skrull sleeper agent

Only if Skrulk gets to smash the planet first.

Oh absolutely - I think that was probably the intention in showing one of the most physicaly powerful members of the illuminati defeated so easily at the begging of the story. So I guess whether one agrees with the intention or not, the defeat of Black Bolt probably did exactly what it was intended to do.

Of course having him beat up Black Bolt is a good idea. It's standard and sensible storytelling practice to set the threat level early on, especially if you don't want to waste any time, which WWH, to its credit in this age of decompression, clearly doesn't.

Now that Hulk is smart, though, won't Professor X SMASH his brane?

Xavier's been having problems with his new telepathy, IIRC.

But the WWH: X-Men seems so ridiculously unnecessary.

I bought this and it's smashing. I love the first bit with Hulk on the prow of his spaceship punching asteroids out of the way, not the most practical method but maybe he was just bored and wanted to practice his smashing.
I only found out Black Bolt and all those dudes existed recently, from Earth X I think, and he really annoyed me so it was great to see him get smashed like the puny git he is.

Is he really going to kill anyone though? He's mad, I get that, but he could have ripped Black Bolt in half to prove a point (all the cool superheroes are doing that), and he didn't.

Yeah, it helps that as well as the most powerful of the illuminati Black Bolt is also the least well known, and least popular. Or at least he was until Millars very special interpretations of Reed and Tony. Really helped with the decision to give him an erly summary smashing I imagine.

Personally I first heard of the guy in a letters page of an early to mid eighties Marvel UK reprint book - someone asked who the top ten most powerful Marvel heroes were and the answer went something like 1) Silver Surfer, 2) Black Bolt, 3) Thor, 4) The Hulk and I forget the rest. But what I do remember is my child's brayne screaming 'who the hell is Black Bolt and how the hell does he squeeze the Hulk out of a top 3 spot?'. So again my Hulk loving inner child was rendered positively lethergic with nourishment seeing that darned list finally proved wrong, and easily so.

Have we seen what he actually did to Black Bolt? I mean I'm assuming he didn't kill him, but I can't work out quite how Marvel are going to explain the not killing. Especially since the Hulk is neither that stupid right now nor a full blown supervillain, so the whole imprisoning his foes to kill them later in a creative or showy way shouldn't be his style. I guess he might be putting off the executions due to Banner's influence. But equally Banner has a pretty shitty record when it comes to stopping the Hulk from doing things the Hulk really wants to do especially seeing as they are basically the same guy, and Banner has a tendency of just fighting enough to give himself plausible deniability when somethings really pissed them off.

Maybe his plan is to publicly execute Black Bolt for all the world to see. That'd give some time for a rescue mission by the Thunderbolts.

I agree that's proabably what will happen - but it just seems a little too supervillain-ish for the Hulk.

well i admit i am 12 months behind in the MU as not only do i wait for trades, i wait for my library to get them in, but can still take some joy in the knowledge that Hulk is smashing the MU right now, even if i might not see it for a while.

If used as the original style Thor with Magic belt et all and full on flining lighting about , aswell as being 2000+ old then propably yes .

Failing that gets Caps sheild and rams it in Hulks spleen .

I personaly hope they dont do a complte all out slug fest . The last issue with Hercules was developing a good idea . There are a lot of disacociated people . Paranoias fairly rife . The authorite figures cant be trusted .
Hulk freedom fighter on earth ???

If I was writing this I would have Hulk do exactly what he just did during Planet Hulk, but on Earth. Smash everyone that comes up against him, overthrow the corrupt leaders, and then end up as Gladiator Barbarian King of Earth in a Conan style. And I would keep the Marvel Universe like this, with the Hulk as the planet Earth's benevolent all powerful dictator.

Heck - if Tony can be King o'the World in Marvel Comics I don't see why Hulk can't be. Might be fun for a year or two. Although King Hulk probably has the capacity to get worryingly Gaiman-esque in the Hulk's own book of course.

Not if I was doing it, it fucking well wouldn't. Hulk would still smash. There is no point in reading a Hulk comic if Hulk does not smash. It is a simple equation. Imagine what the entire run of Gaiman's Sandman would have actually been like, if Morpheus was replaced by the Hulk, and his answer to every mystical challenge, every supernatural conspiracy and every moral dilemma - was simply to smash. You've stole my magic items? Hulk Smash. My girlfriend is imprisoned by demons? Hulk smash. You're giving me the keys to Hell? Hulk Smash. You're a guy who wants to live forever? Hulk smash. William Shakespeare? Hulk Smash. Away with the faeries? Hulk smash. Some fucking guy with a pumpkin for a head? Hulk smash? A much better comic.

Smash Country, Season of Smash, A Game Of Smash, Smash House, The Kindly Smash... hey that would rock, if he were Morpheus except when he gets angry and he were always angry.
Or Hulk takes on the mantle of Destruction... and SMASHES ALL OF HIS ENDLESSLY ANNOYING GOTH FAMILY!! Huzzah!

WWH X-men was pretty terrible.

I mean really.

The trainee kids gave him a pretty rough fight, although I suppose he might have been holding back, but yeah, should have been no contest.

Wolverine's daughter cash in character? SMASH

The Prof X dialog was pretty awful, "His hatred is like an elemental force!" I see you have read the works of Chris Claremont as well, hack writer, congrats!

Had to bump this a little , due to the rather excellent Ghost Rider World War Hulk and the second Part of the X men (just goes to show that phasing someone into the concrete dose not always work).

And now the US armed force get SMASHED .. err i mean fight Hulk . King Hulk , of the dreaming ... thing

ONLY NICE THINGS

I read the X-Men World War Hulk, and it was really quite funny. Things that I particularly liked included:

1) That Professor X wasn't even involved in the decision to send Hulk into space, so instead Hulk wants to know whether he would have voted for it if he had been. Which seems to be taking accountability a bit far, frankly.

2) In the previous issue, Hulk has clearly SMASHED the New X-Men. In this one he SMASHES the Astonishing X-Men. Next issue he will have to SMASH the X-Men in Space. This could go on for a very, very long time, as team after team (except for the Uncanny X-Men, because, really, nobody cares) present themselves for SMASHING.

3) It's just ridiculous.
