I found it quite refreshing that the pilot went straight in with the majority of the posthuman cast members either knowing about their powers or, at least, having a suspicion. It kept it all moving at a good pace in my view.
Out of everyone I'm liking Hiro, Claire, and Niki the best at the moment (and not just because of the high gore quotient of their adventures so far).
Hiro's probably the person I identify with the most anyway (naturally, he's a comic book geek with super-powers). But anyone who has a line like "I've just broken the space/time continuum!" gets my vote. I'm wondering if his little jaunt into the future happened because of lack of experience or distance (does he go further into the future the further he tries to travel?).
Nikki's storyline is less developed at the moment, obviously intentionally. But there's nothing quite like a super-powered, psychotic alter-ego to give the story some spice (I'm thinking super-strength/dexterity by the way). Whilst she's obviously not going to turn out to be Sylar, she has equally obviously been channelling her inner super-villain.
As an aside: Sylar's our first real super-villain and by the looks of things an awesome telekinetic.
Got to love Claire's willingness to test the limits of her regeneration (hand in the trash grinder, nice!). I may be having a bit of a Buffy moment in my liking of cheerleader with super-powers but I'm unrepentant there.
As to the others; The Flying Petrelli's seems like it could develop into an interesting arc (posthuman in the White House anyone?), and they'll be linking in with Isaac's story too (although the "tortured artist with a power that's more curse than blessing" is a little bit much for me. I suppose it's a good thing he hasn't yet drawn himself with his brain scooped out).
Telepathic policeman needs a bit more development (but getting his-self arrested for Sylar's crimes made me chuckle). |
