I've only just read the Ultraculture thread. I don't know much about magic but it was a really interesting and ~ combined with the intertexts like Mordant's LJ page and the Ultraculture editor's forum polemic ~ a shocking read. Obviously, the whole affair ended sadly and badly.
However, some small good has come of it because I wouldn't have read Mordant's piece on Loki otherwise. I understand why you wanted it removed from the journal, Mordant, but for what it's worth I really liked your article. It was informed, reasoned, witty, honest. It's actually the first piece I've read, despite my browsing of the Temple here, that helped me understand what magical practice is "really" like (because you put it in terms someone outside the culture can understand ~ some of the Temple posts talk about experiences I can't engage with) and because you relate what I'd consider uncanny events to stuff I can understand, like historical and textual research.
So, props to you and I hope in some small way that makes up for your article being still included in a journal you (understandably) don't want any part of. |
