Infrequently.

Proinsias
15:36 / 26.06.06
A quick skim every few days unless there is some real drama happening.

illmatic
15:46 / 26.06.06
I check it, but would be lying to say I read it all, particuarly when it gets all meta-Barbelith.

Quantum
17:02 / 26.06.06
I check the policy most days for mod requests and to keep up with current events.

rising and revolving
17:51 / 26.06.06
Semi-frequent (weekly?) check, unless there's an ongoing drama I'm interested in.

18:35 / 26.06.06
I used to only check Policy once in a while. And then mostly just to keep up to date with the bigger personality clashes on the board.

But after I became a moderator, I started coming here more-or-less daily.

Policy. I read. Me.

Is crying.

19:26 / 26.06.06
I pop in almost everyday to check if there's anything concerning the board I should know.
Mostly, I feel I should because I'm one of the application checkers and don't want to miss anything concerning that side of things.
That and it's just an interesting forum. There's not many sites that discuss themselves in quite the same way.

The Strobe
20:45 / 26.06.06
I check it practically every day - certainly whenever I check the rest of the board. Mainly stop by to see what the big issues are and what I need to be doing as a mod, so to speak.

I do have a look every time i'm on Barbelith. I don't post much though. I often find that everything i want to say has been expressed far better by another poster further up the thread.

Policy is one of the three or four fora I check every time in on Barbelith, which is normally every other day or so. I haven’t posted here before this. I guess I’ve felt that it would be kinda presumptuous, given that I’m such an infrequent poster overall.

... About often enough to have seen this thread just now.

semi-regularly. But as supaglue mentioned, I tend to think of it as the domain of the more established posters.

makes fun reading, though I rarely (read, never) have anything of much worth to contribute.

I think that it's an interesting (and important) question too but then Policy has a reasonable amount of traffic. I'd be equally interested to hear the reading vs. posting population of AF&D and Creation which usually get a smaller amount of daily posting.

I read policy but haven't ever posted here before..

When I read through this, I feel like such a slacker. I drop in here maybe every other week, just to see what's going on.

17:33 / 27.06.06
I read it for the sports and the local news.

Er, no - actually, I think Tripolitica is a great idea & like watching how we slowly by slowly approach that ideal

20:28 / 27.06.06
I read it almost every day.

Check often (less often of late as there haven't been any blow-ups), post infrequently. Oddly, as I have more free time on my hands (summer vacation) I find I'm spending less time on Barbelith in general and in Policy specifically. My engagement with the board would appear to be directly related to the amount I am procrastinating.

I usually check the Policy a few times a week.

Much like the majority of forums (please, please, not *fora*) I read often and post seldom. In fact, this is my first post in Policy that I can remember.

Oy, I've had a very hectuc month, but I'm still around occasionally, and not reading policy enough it seems....

I read Policy & Help every other or every third day or so (out of the days that I visit Barbelith, that is, which usually means most every day).

Sekhmet
04:47 / 04.07.06
Bit late to the party here, which reflects the fact that I look at the Policy about every third time I log in to the board. Unless something juicy is going on, then I watch it like a hawk with a bad case of the busybodies.

MattShepherd: I WEDDED KALI!
15:24 / 07.07.06
Once every few days. More often if I'm in a contentious thread or marvelling at how a situation has just totally spiralled into incessant bickering, but that's because I'm a gawker. And I'm about to post here about a bad habit of mine and how best to manage it. Wish me luck!

So, it's been 2 weeks and we have 90-something people.

Can we draw any conclusions? Any notable absences? Is this roughly the kind of number we were expecting? Stoatie?

To me, the number is probably smaller than I initially imagined, but then I think I maybe over-estimate the size of the active membership. Scrolling through the pages, I haven't clocked any glaring omissions. I think cusm is the only Policy mod not to check in, but then I don't think he's been around recently. Dunno. Maybe other people expected a lot more (or a lot fewer).

They came in pretty fast. 50% clocked in within 24 hours. Probably about what you'd expect. Again, I'm not sure. What do other people think?

I check Policy often when my Barbelith usage reaches medium to high levels... which it hasn't been lately. So, sometimes a lot, sometimes hardly ever. Sorry that's probably not very useful.

Yes, I was gonna wait until the dribble had dried up (as it were), but I think we've got a reasonable idea. To be honest, the obvious people (ie the people who post frequently in the Policy) were, unsurprisingly, among the first, but I wanted them in here so I didn't have to go "well, we've got about sixty, but I'd have to also include Fly, Haus, etc etc, is there anyone I'm forgetting?"

I'm actually quite impressed with the amount, but I'm finding the length of time it took people to add themselves interesting- that gives us more of an idea of the frequency of people's Policy-checking. And yes, I'm aware that there are probably more people who just didn't bother posting in this thread, but there's not really anything I can do about that.

As I say, I'm not really sure what I can do with this information, but next time something comes up that requires a "people should read the Policy" conversation, we've got this under our belt to add some context.

(Oh, and feel free to keep adding yourselves if you haven't already done so, even if you only check once every few weeks and have just seen the thread).

Just got back from a couple of weeks away, but as I said...somewhere else...ok, here, the Policy is one of the things that first attracted me to Barbelith, so I make a point of visiting, and very interesting and useful it is too, as a general rule.

i come to policy occasionally when I'm looking for a way out of the underground and into the bit where formatting is explained. i saw a link here once.

This evening I came in because it is very quiet in the forums and I suspected there was a ruck going on and that someone would have posted a link in the policy.

Well, since I've decided to try and occasionally post, I've started to read it pretty much daily, with some occasional gaps. Though that "since" is more temporal than causal, since I really can't pinpoint why I've started doing it, though there's a possibility that it's part of me trying to become more than a reader, and actually engaging with the board's, hmm, life.

I read and post infrequently, but I do check the policy pretty much everytime I come here to see what is going on and what threads to watch in car crash fashion or avoid like the plague.

I'm in a period where I don't communicate online much. Things in real life have taken over and I just don't have the time to be here as much as I once might have been.

I was pleased to note though, that even though I haven't been around much, I still had things to talk about and still understood what was going on when I met up with a bunch of barbeloids recently.
