Hello! I'm shitfaced! How about you?

I Jake, I just got in from X:3 and a delightful boat of sushi. Not shitfaced yet, but 1/2 a bottle of wine is calling to me from the kitchen counter.

Jake, Colossus of Clout
03:54 / 27.05.06
Well, go get it, for Christ's sake!

How was X3? I've heard it was horrid, but I've been downloading awful "guilty pleasure" comics I've missed from the past couple of years, so it's probably par for the course.

oooh tell me was X3 etra shexy?

I just dragged my bones in from working late in a server room.
The hum, the dry air, the lack of alcohol....missed last call I do believe.

What kind of sush was on the boat? Any Unagi?

Hello, hello. Not shitfaced, eating frosted flakes to make up for it. My room is very hot and humid. It's unpleasant.

I haven't seen X3, but reading the thread makes me want to less and less.

Ticker
04:02 / 27.05.06
hullo back at ya.

yes frosted flakes is a drug. With a tiger for a pusher no less.

What's wrong with X3? I mean looks like everyone is running around in leather and corsets. (wait Van Helsing sucked ass... hrm)

..and it has Kelsey Grammer as Beast!

I read the thread, too, Fiver. It killed all desire to see the flick. Can't wait for Superman, though.

Tired and unmotivated? Sounds about right...

Dammit, I'm all out of frosted flakes.

Not a whole lot. The Mavs are good. Whoever wins this series wins the title. You heard it here first. My favorite Sox pitcher took a liner off the knee and may be done forever. I'm drunk as hell. And reading trashy comics while listening to Beck.

Not too-too bad, I s'pose.

Jack Denfeld
04:31 / 27.05.06
Which comics Jake?

I'm so unmotivated I might have to shave my beautiful black hair to snap out of it.

*Cough*avengersdisassembledandalltieinsuptocivilwar*cough*

The Iron Man and Thor parts of Disassembled are actually pretty good. Iron Man is a fave of mine, and the Tony Harris art is tight. Thor is so ridiculously melodramatic that it's huge fun. The FF bits seem good, too, because Waid writes good superheroes. Spider-Man is awful, as is Captain America and the Falcon, and the core Bendis-writ Avengers issues.

Jack Denfeld
04:46 / 27.05.06
dissasembled? You'll have to read House of M after.

Jake, Colossus of Clout
04:55 / 27.05.06
It's in the mass that I downloaded. 'Twas like a gig and a half of comics: Avengers Disassembled to the current Civil War thing. I'm up to the 23rd issue, which is an FF comic, but I've got a heck of a lot more to plow though. There are some Bendis interviews from Wizard tacked on, too, where he talks like he's God's gift to comics. It's a bit funny, because there are at least three series tie-ins that are way better than his crap Avengers issues.

It's kind of fun to read, and I don't feel a bit sorry for have torrented it because I wouldn't have spent a dime on it. I also just finished downloading Flex Mentallo, which I've been dying to read for ages. Want to save that one for a sober reading, though. I'm very excited.

Flex Mentallo, which I've been dying to read for ages.
Might wanna keep that one on the down low. I think one of the few times Mr Morrison posted here was because of Flex download discussions.

But yeah, Millar's been bragging that Civil War has sold like a trillion copies with a big cover price, so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna just download his stuff. Downloaded a big MiracleMan thing too cuz I wanted to read Moore's stuff and they aren't readily available in tpb if at all.

Jake, Colossus of Clout
05:18 / 27.05.06
Really? I didn't think Mr. M had any problem with readers downloading Flex, because the Charles Atlas people keep it out of print.

Should I ask a mod to delete?

Jake, Colossus of Clout
05:21 / 27.05.06
And fuck Millar. I have no problem downloading the big Marvel stuff, because I know it doesn't impact guys like Millar's pockets.

I really want to know what happens next in Walking Dead, but I would never download it because I might actually be taking money out of Kirkman and Adland's wallets if I didn't end up buying. I'll just wait for the trade.

Jack Denfeld
05:25 / 27.05.06
Naw, no need to delete stuff. And although I'm sure Kirkman will be fine financially, I really wanna pick up those trades. Some people say it's falling flat, but Kirkman plans to write this thing forever he said, so it's definetley gonna get real interesting in that there's no end in sight as far as zombie story structure. I think it's been pretty good myself.

Jake, Colossus of Clout
05:36 / 27.05.06
I think it's fantastic. I have the trades 1-4, and I've heard the bitching. Critics say that the zombies are out of the story, but I say that they're omnipresent- it doesn't matter if they're on panel threatening the protagonists or not. The existence of the zombies informs every action of every character, whether they're lunging for the throat or not. Up to where I'm at (issue 24), the series has definitely become more "soapy," but I think that's all to the good. I cannot wait to see where this series is going.

I actually think Kirkman wrote the Captain America Disassembled series I'm reading right now. It's pretty good, except for the fuckup of having the Mets' mascot (Mr. Met!) in Yankee Stadium in one story. However, the story had Batroc the Leaper in it, so all is forgiven. It's much better than most of the other tie-ins. Did I mention how much Spider-Man sucks?

Jack Denfeld
05:38 / 27.05.06
Jake I think you're right on with the Walking Dead stuff.

Jake, Colossus of Clout
05:49 / 27.05.06
It just seems to me that people see Walking Dead and assume that it's a "zombie comic," and so it has to fit their preconceived notions of constant splatter and head-smashing. If they pick up an issue that doesn't feature sledgehammering zombie skulls, they feel cheated. I just think that Walking Dead is much more about the people than the zombies. You could replace the zombies with pretty much any menace- It's so much more about people having to rearrange their lives in a savage manner than about eating brains.

What comics are you reading these days, Jack?

And what happened to everyone else? It seems like we're the only North Americans up late, these days. Even Keggers is AWOL, for crying ut loud!

Jack Denfeld
06:01 / 27.05.06
Civil War, 52, Robin, Nightwing (just for Jason Todd), Cap, Daredevil, and I wanna go and find some New Avengers trades this weekend.

I'm still up, at least for awhile, I just got back from murdering invisible exploding zombies, aka playing Killer7.

How's the art in Walking Dead these days? I have the first trade and loved it, but flipping through the next one was severely underwhelmed by the new artist and didn't bother.

...Have been reading a lot of Kirkman lately though. I cracked, decided I couldn't wait for the second Invincible hardcover, and dl'd the series. Great stuff.

Jake, Colossus of Clout
06:08 / 27.05.06
I downloaded the first week of 52 to see if it was worth buying, but haven't read it yet. Is it?

I've moved to a new area, so I have no close comic shop (that I know of), no job(yet) and no friends within decent driving distance (besides my lateshift pals-Drink to that, sucka!). I'm not even up to speed on Morrison's new shit. The last time I went to a comics shop I bought Frankenstein #3 and AS Superman #2- that was like 2 months ago. I've been religiously avoiding those threads in the comics forum. It's a bit embarrassing, really.

Jack Denfeld
06:10 / 27.05.06
I'm sorry, I meant Young Avengers trades.

Jake, Colossus of Clout
06:10 / 27.05.06
I was thrown off by the new artist, too, Fiver, but he's really quite good once you get used to the style. Do not, under any circumstances, give up on Walking Dead. It's ace, as our British brethren would say.

P. Horus Rhacoid
06:15 / 27.05.06
I'll check it out, then. Anyway the fact that it's Kirkman probably overshadows the art change at this point. Occasional grammatical flubs aside, Invincible really is awesome.

Jake, Colossus of Clout
06:17 / 27.05.06
Invincible's good, then? I haven't read it. Should I buy the trades?

P. Horus Rhacoid
06:30 / 27.05.06
Well- I could see the teen drama aspect of Invincible being a little bit offputting to some, but it's really just a ton of well-written superhero fun. It's clear that everyone involved loves superheroes and is having a ton of fun on it, the art's fantastic, it's self-aware but not obnoxiously so, and frequently has its tongue in cheek without being silly. A lot of the minor superheroes and supervillains are absolutely inspired, hilarious, or both. It's clearly taking a lot of cues from mainstream superhero books (there's a villain named The Elephant who makes a brief appearance, and a pseudo-Justice League play a big role, which sounds lame but works really well) but it never seems dull and it never descends into parody. It's basically Robert Kirkman writing about how much he loves superheroes.

In summary: great characters, great art, lots of love put into it, hugely entertaining. Check out at least the first trade.

Oh speaking of Kirkman, you guys gotta check out Marvel Zombies! Hilarious, gross out Marvel superhero zombies with gorgeous art.
