Okay! When does this officially begin? Will I be PMed? Do I make up my own ridiculous background or am I assigned a character?

Is it wrong to be so excited about this?

Monday 15th, in Creation. Yes. Make up your own character. No.

So, we ready?

So, we ready?

Yes we are, but Tez is sadly forced to engage in real work like everyone else. The thread will be going up at lunchtime, so please try to contain your bloodlust until then...

Welcome to Little Catlipocia. The streets are now open here: http://www.barbelith.com/topic/24733

You have all been PMed your character types, and are free to start whenever you like. The game starts in the Day cycle, and will continue until all votes are in, or Friday, whichever is the sooner.
Take a look at some of the other Mafia threads for an idea of how play if you're uncertain.

Enjoy the game...

Just a friendly reminder...

The Shrug of Rupert Dalliance

you have yet to place your vote for Day 1's lynching. Just to remind you that anyone who fails to vote by the end of today will also get killed, along with the target.

Ooops similarly. I wonder why the lack of vote???

That was ace, although luck being on the side of the status quo made it a little short. Big thanks for all the work setting up and running the game Tez. Great choice of setting.

I really appreciated the imagination and effort folk put into their posts too. If I get time, I'll try running another game later in the year, although secretly I want someone else to do one so I can indulge my paranoid fantasies some more.

I'd like to do one set on a pirate ship, but I'd need a while to plan it.

Was that the first time the Mafia lost? We totally rocked their asses.

Yeah, agreed very fun, I wish I'd had more time to give it in the later stages. Btw, who were the people the mafia placed hits on? Presumably you saved them twice, Stoatie? Well done.

With Yakuza-ninjas?

Yeah. Some of the pirates will secretly be ninjas. DO YOU SEE???

That was great fun except for where we all got caught and killed in 4 days. I was definitely too tentative about the whole thing.
We tried to kill Von Mises on the first night, had a nice socialistic bent to it, and Rupert D, sad to say you were our target on the 3rd night once we'd worked out you were a 'tec.
With people's permission I might run the next one, give Stoatie and Rupert D a bit of time. I've got some ideas. Don't touch that dial...

I enjoyed it but as as a civilian I was so aimless. I really had no clues at all about what was going on, and I really did try (I had little index cards and everything). It's interesting how everyone went fo Von Mises, though. In the absence of anyone better qualified, it seemed the most dislikeable character got it in the neck early. Did the mafia guys have any idea he was bulletproof?

I see your index cards and raise you a series of elaborate tables. I was contemplating Venn diagrams when Johnny Biz got whacked and everything fell into place.

For posterity, I was totally useless with my 'tec questions. I asked about Feverfew, Bazmo and Cube in that order. The whole von-Mises thing threw me, I was sure it was between Bazmo, Cube and Paleface for the last 2 mob roles - did the mafia set that one up?
I also had Elijah pegged as the fink. Sorry Mr. Profit.

Am getting the vapours from jumping between threads. Have posted directions in the game thread to here for post game disscussion. Hope that's not too presumptuous.

I also had Elijah pegged as the fink.

Really? He'd have been my next protectee.

I thought Feverfew was the fink in the last round. I suspected Biz almost immediately but was really tentative about making a choice. Had also asked about cube and bazmo.
So everyone just knew I was a detective after I changed my name to A researched filth trough, right?

I had an Excel Spreadsheet going to compare the votes and all that....

I really had no clue about anything until One-Mitt PMd me before the last vote letting me know that he, Feverfew, and Cube were all non-mafia.

...and now just 5 days to wait until I can change my name back..

Really? He'd have been my next protectee.

I think it was because Elijah dropped a couple of lines about Dalliance knowing something others didn't and I read them as a big signposts for the mafia. I wasn't sure if a fink would single-mindedly go after the detectives or be prepared to vote off the mafia as well. Seemed like a no-win role; by getting the detectives you make the mafia safer and are as likely to get bumped off by them as anyone else, I could see the fink trying to get everyone just in order to survive. I guess there's different ways you could play it.

For those who are interested, my Excel spreadsheet - including the night actions of the special characters - can be viewed here (it's a free hosting service though, so the link will probably vanish after a week or so).

If someone is thinking of runn another (although I warn you, it's more work than it looks!), I'd be happy to participate. Pirates! sounds particularly funky...

Feverfew

My finkish powers extended to asking:

Day 1: "Is X a detective?" "No."
Day 2: "Is Y a detective?" "No."
Day 3: "Dammit, I'm bad at this. Is Z a detective?
"No."

Granted, Tez phrased that a little better in the event.

The fink's role is a little odd, granted, because his desire is to make the Mafia's life easier, but he still has just as much risk of being bumped off by the mob as an innocent citizen. It was... Fun, really.

My plan was to choose option (3); once the detective identified himself via PM to pass on any info, the idea was to (if Fiver hadn't been mafia) verify this info in the night cycle, then blackmail the detective on the threat of making as many people vote for them as possible.

It wouldn't have probably worked, but it's nice to have a plan. I'm curious as to why Shrug / Filthy thought I was the fink come the last round....

I'm in for any further games, this was a lot of fun, if short, as [Warning - Double Enténdre limit for this month reached - please return next calendar month

Right... My reply was kind of cut in half there.

Then again, all I wanted to say was Thanks to Tez for running it so well, and to say that I'm in for any future games.

It's going to be tough to beat Tez's game but I'm going to try anyway. Unless anyone objects I'm starting the next Mafia game on Monday 19th June, and it takes place on November the 12th 1983, in a snowed in Colorado Hotel, The Bizunthiano. Eighties horror chic with big chunks of Stephen King.15 players max again, I think. Who's officially interested?

Ooh yes... unless there are too many people, in which case we should probably give first choice to people who haven't played before. That said, though, I'd love to play.

Well I'm loath to stop reading the book of Dashell Hammett short stories I picked up at the library but I guess I could branch out into the horror section. Count me in please.
