Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

Actually, I could see Hal's JLA being: Green Arrow, Black Canary, the Flash and Hawkman. Possibly the Atom as well. Dinah would eventually get frustrated because Hal has a lot of discomfort about working with women stemming back to his early times at Ferris Aircraft and all his issues with Carol. Needless to say this is the pre-lib Silver Age Hal, mostly because I've grown up into a guy that doesn't like Hal too much and finds him a bit dullsville. Dinah would work to convince Hawkwoman to join, and possibly Katma Tui (with Arisia in the Titans). I like the thought of Hal's League being a postcard of his issues, neuroses, and his old-buddies network.

But it depends on the Lantern, really. Kyle's League would be far more artistic (Wally West, Plastic Man, J'onn, Troia? Who else?). John's League would be focused on a more urban renewel/planetary change/Authority angle stemming from his architectural tendencies -- he'd favour strong women like Katma, and would probably call on Oracle to help him coordinate it.

And Guy's League? One-Man Justice League. Guy Gardner needs only Guy Gardner.

Guy Gardner's JLA? EASIER.

Phantom Lady, Fire, Power Girl, Bulleteer, Starfire, and Mary Marvel

Ah, so it'd be a Justice League led by a beaten-up, bloody pulp guy. With a ring.

Ha!

In any case, the only GL I want to read is John Stewart. Because of the cartoon. He's a pro. Kill the rest?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

See, I like comic book John better than cartoon John. Comic book John is an architect, a creative type person. Cartoon John is a military type.

Actually, for the most part I prefer the aliens. Say what you will about The Nail, the Green Lantern Corps segments are super-cool. Arisia at her proper age! Katma Tui! I say they make a non-human into Green Lantern 2814. I say they make Power Rings illegal on Planet Earth.

I didn't even like Hal as a kid, when I loved Green Lanterns. I preferred all the alien-type Lanterns and loved ALAN SCOTT the bestest ever. It was the cape, with the high-ass collar.

I remember liking Guy when I was little, at some point, which led to some bad hair cut decisions at an early age.

where does that place JSA?

The old guard, the elder statesmen. The "locker room leaders" who may not be the superstars, but are always willing to help the young up & comers.

So, what would the Ideal JSA line-up look like?

7 members? 12?

what would a fantasy JSA/JLA crossover look like?

JSA = (Avengers + 100 years of history) x optimism / professionalism

if Batman is the mom and Superman is the dad
if Superman is the mom and Wonder Woman is the dad
if Wonder Woman is the mom and Batman is the dad

All-Star Titans, or at least how they ought to be.

The JSA are much less iconic, individually, but MORE iconic as a group. As the official repository of "legacy heroes" they have the largest pool to draw from, and aren't particularly bound by "Big 7" concerns.

That being said, if you don't have Jay Garrick, Alan Scott, and Ted Grant, you might as well give up now.

I'm dancing around the idea of the JSA as a school for superheroes, but not in the X-Men mold. More along the lines of a medieval guild, with members/"masters" giving on-the-job training to a handful of apprentice heroes, with certain members handling specialized training.

(Wouldn't YOU want to learn how to use super-speed from Jay Garrick?)

Wonder Woman League, take 2

Who's second from the left, Cassandra? That link is broken for me.

Sgt Rock

Wonder Woman JLA

New Goddess + WW2 veteran + 21st century powerhouse + JLA showgirl + spiritual athlete + divine messenger

Sgt. Rock, eh?

What's his role in the League? It seems to me that he might have problems taking orders from civilians. Would he be an official US Army representative? Also, isn't he 80 years old by now, or did he pull a Nick Fury somehow?

Quick question: How do you post those mini-heroes? Many of them don't seem linkable in the traditional way.

Does this feel like the JLA?

Who's the woman on the left? Does that question make me sound like comic book persona non grata?

Well, Tricks and Mario and I have been batting around the idea of a "Wonder Woman" League. We all know who the Big 7 are, and that the League changes to suit a perspective or frame of engagement.

The Big 7 seem to have a right combination of "iconic variation".

Batman Leagues tend to be more street level, more covert.

Superman Leagues tend to be in flight, and full of fireworks. Wonder Woman usually belongs on the Superman League.

But in the interest of franchise exploration... (DC is investing in the Wonder Woman character to round out its "Holy Trinity".) We're trying to find what elements would allow for a combination of players that work with Diana as leader, as well as compliment her status as leader, and add up to a seemingly right combination of "iconic variation".

Imagining Diana's OYL Dynastic Centerpiece, I was thinking Sergeant Rock would be an interesting player to add to a newly "militarized" Princess Diana. He's human, which adds a street level quality, but in a very different sense than those in Batbooks. He'd follow her orders because JLA adventures are entirely her game, and while he's good in a fight, he's out of his element. He'd get along with her for that reason, and get some level of authority and respect from Maj. Tim Zanetti. He'd think Zee or Connor are civ hippies, but he'd probably strike up a profound friendship with Zauriel.

From left to Right: Gypsy, Booster Gold, Black Canary, Hunteress, Superman, Metamorpho, Blue Beatle.

Not sure if these feels like a JLA proper. Perhaps it's the lack of "logo/icons" and the relative obscurity and maybe youth of many of those members that makes it seem lacking for me. That last line-up looks almost like a superman version of the Outsiders. Superman seems to be donating some time to a sort of intern team lead by Black Canary and Booster Gold. Gypsy has oftne been a reluctant hero, Hunteress seems much to street and Blue Beetle is the rookie of that bunch.

Meanwhile Cassandra's other Wonder Woman Line-up makes for an interesting blend of a previous permutation and my proposed WW line up. I like your thinkin gregarding Sgt. Rock but suspect there might be some conflict. Would Rock really be willing to not use a gun?

Considering his being in quite over his head he'd probably have a big problem excluding the one weapon he's probably got the most expertise with. Meanwhile that same gun would probably represent everything Diana would see as flawed in "mansworld."

As a Government Rep I would imagine a 21st century Unknown Soldier

or perhaps a Black Hawk

or a checkmate agent. Or even Sasha Bordeux herself.

Ha! Logos. As obvious as it should be, I think that's what's missing!

S'why I can't see Nightwing "joining" the JLA. Or Troia. And I only like Starfire because she's got a trademark schtick. A lack of a logo would prevent automatic acceptance of several characters... Huntress, New Gods, Aztek, Faith, the Detroiters.

But what of the JLA members that don't have logos? Of the 7, J'onn and Arthur's are sketchy. Is it dark hair + fishnets = Zatanna and blond hair + fishnets = Black Canary? Firestorm has the flaming hair? I recently saw Green Arrow with a horribly done G in the shape of an arrow. Atom, Firestorm, and Captain Atom all share the "orbitting atom" mark. Captain Marvel has the lightning bolt, but his character is a redundant one.

Who, of the lower echelon, does have a defined logo?

1. Red Tornado has a cool nuclear/"T" symbol.
...

Any others?

Animal Man has his 'A'

Atom and Captain Atom have their atomic symbols, as does Firestorm, doesn't he?

Plastic Man's yellow belt thingie with the diamond and red background is very iconic, as it usually appears on him no matter what shape he takes, but I'm not sure it qualifies as a logo.

Along those lines Zaurael has a bit a logo in that white relief image accross his torso. Aztek has his helm which in a sence parrallel's Z's Hat.

The Hawks have their hawk symbol as well as the wings/helms.

Aquaman's always have the "A" on his belt. and Jonn has that special thing on his belt as well(I always felt it should be turned into the Spartan MARS symbol).

Green arrow falls in the same catagory as Azteck, Zantanna, and Zaurael with his Bow & arrow being his own symbol. Though he's had a "G" belt buckle off and on.

Interestiningly there's a new Firestorm design coming that will have more of an icon.

Elongated man has an "Em" occasionally.

And power girl has her cleavage.

Alot of second tier heroes came of age during that era of costume design that stepped away from the ICON.
