No, alright, over-reaction. But I'm putting Alex on ignore.

Speedy, what was it about my comments that you found so offensive, as to call for a ban?

I'm genuinely interested.

Mark Millar, who, clearly enough, was being referenced, has been called far worse than 'an insufferable cockhorse' on Barbelith, repeatedly, so it can't be that.

So what is it? What's the problem?

And actually, seeing as you've put me on 'ignore' I suppose I've wasted the time it took to put together a response to your thoughts.

Really, what's the point? I could quite easily say that you, Speedy, are an active and as yet unbusted guy who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a children's home, and I could keep on doing it until you had to explain, to a disbelieving audience, that you weren't really that sort of a character.

Imagine if you put the jury on 'iggy'?

Think on, young man.

Really AG?

So now implying I'm a paedophile is what passes for humour around here?

For your information, my call for your banning wasn't about any perceived "offensiveness" (read what I wrote) but rather for your wilful attempt to derail the "Best of Peter Milligan" thread with your snide sideswipes at Grant and Mark Millar.

I'm starting to regret giving you another chance when I didn't put you on ignore (a throwaway comment made in the heat of the moment) as I said I would.

So much for giving you the benefit of the doubt.

Everybody to Policy.

I think you might have missed the bit where we all fucked off.

Which part of describing Grant M as an absent Dad consitutes 'a sideswipe'? It wasn't meant as a criticism, and, honestly, I don't see how it could be interpreted as such.

And I have read your comment. What am I failing to understand? You want me to be banned, okay, I get it. It would be difficult to be confused about your message.

You, on the other hand, could usefully re-read what I actually said. The idea of you, Speedy, as a paedophile was a deliberately ridiculous hypothetical. Surely that was clear enough?

And if not (and obviously, there's some doubt) isn't that the trouble with posting more than a one-liner; that anything beyond 'you suck!' or 'it rocks!' is open to misunderstanding?

Best of luck in the policy thread, though.

Spatulia Clarke: I realise that Barbelith aint what it used to be, but I'd hoped that there would still be people around who were prepared to uphold the standards the place once aspired to. I guess those days are gone forever (sigh).

Alex's Grandma: something about Mark Millar being a successful comics (and film) writer and hardly just a thing you'd ride to Banbury Cross ...

Oh, I can't go on with this.

This is a funny episode of "The Sopranos" - Tony is mourning the loss of Pie-O-My, thinking of himself sometimes as a sad clown; Paulie can't bring himself to burn the portrait of his boss and deceased racehorse, so has Tony repainted as Napoleon. A dead dog, an intervention on Christopher ...

But, to get back on topic, Robin Green was one of the writers. She once worked as Stan Lee's "Gal Friday" - at Marvel Comics - where Peter Milligan later worked!

What do you mean when you say that 'you can't go on with this'?

Putting a coherent argument together? I suppose that's beneath you, in some way.

And so we go on.

If you Speedy, have ever found yourself wondering why society seems like it might be going down the toilet, it might be an idea to look in the mirror, and think about what you really see.

Greek Street got cancelled. My newest issue says "Final Issue" on the cover.

Well, that was always going to happen, I suppose.

Through this weepy, gin-soaked veil, I rememeber reading an interview with Milligan circa mid-Shade/Enigma (when he was, IMVHO, at the top of not just his game, but everyone's in comics, at the time) in which he was asked what he was working on next.

There were references to 'the novel';

To be honest, I can't see how the author of 'The Enigma' could underate himself in any way, but the stuff about Joyce and Hemmingway in 'Shade' is there for a reason.

Perhaps Pete's tragedy is that he once saw comics as a way into high art, and that he did get there, but that when he did, it wasn't a leapstone to anything much else.

I read 'Greek Street' for as long as I could, eight issues, I think, but what was it about? Geezers, hoes, etc, I guess, Greek myth, but, you know, Jesus.

I don't think he can be bothered any more, can he?

Well, he's still writing Hellblazer, where he had Shade return for a story arc or two.

Gosh, is he?!

I'm just wasting my breath here, aren't I?

... sorry, Mist.

Must still have been smarting a bit after Speedy's ridiculous comments,

Come on, AG.

I don't think even Peter Milligan could've done anything more with so thin a premise, talented as he is.

In breaking news, Pete's apparently going to be doing Red Lantern.
