hey so the Barbelith Temple Journal is humming along with articles coming in.

We have a fantastic group of volunteers helping but we need more Proof readers to sign up. This would be to proof the product after Layout does a preliminary copy.

If you can help us and lend us your eyeballs (you'll get to see the journal before most!) please come sign up in the BTJ Creation thread.

thank ya!

Hey everyone! There is good stuff in the Temple! Come and look at our good stuffs!

(Granted there's also some foilhattery going on but I figure if we encourage the meaningful stuff we can help shift the signal-to-noise ratio signalwards.)

Attention: there is discussion of banning and the procedures for using our banning features over here and a bit in the barbannoy thread. There has been requests for a greater board consensus on these matters, so I thought I'd draw the attention of those who don't frequent policy that often.

Yes, also can someone veto that ban request? We acted in haste and are repenting.

On-going discussion trying to get a proper procedure for banning in place. I think it could benefit from a relatively quick discussion and agreement.

Hello. Do you like films. Or do you like games. Well you could do worse than look at my thread about the relationship between the camera eye and the cgi-eye (that is, the way the CGI "camera" approximates analogue camera technique in films, and whether games have evolved their own kind of camera, or whether they're still basically using cinema's visual grammar; whether cinema has borrowed from games in its visual style, or whether it's a one-way process).

There's a healthy conversation going on there between me, E. Randy Dupre, and... well, me again. But if we can do that with two people, think what we can do with YOU there!

there's a barbe-mix-cd being organized in the creation, and only 4 people have signed on in the last day and a half. for the sake of everyone here who is too stubborn or bored to leave before the last gasp, can we please have one more successful mix happen before we turn off the lights?

i'd include a link, but it's at the top of the creation and i don't foresee things moving much in the next few days.

Aw. Now I have a warm and fuzzy feeling.

But, yes, six to ten more volunteers would be appreciated.

It'd be quite useful if anybody who actually still gives a rat's arse about this board would go into the currently active Policy thread and give their opinions on the proposed changes to banning policy, or come up with alternatives of their own. Because otherwise it's going to be taken as read that there's majority agreement on the proposals, and they'll be put into practice. Then, when you realise that you don't like them, it'll be tough shit, really, because you weren't interested enough in them at the time that your opinion could have made any difference to actually let that be known.

However, if you're just going to post in there in order to make some noise about what a big meanie poo-pants Haus is, don't bother.

That is all.

Ahoy there! (and that's the last joke like that I'm making)
If you can think of a good song related to the sea, that's all you need to participate in the current mix going on in Creation. Well, not just thinking of it, having some electronic version of it to throw in would be helpful. Anyone is welcome, just go to the thread and state your desire to participate. No big whoop.

The thread in Music&Radio about filesharing has sort of slowed to nothing, and I would love to hear more. I'd especially love to hear some opinions from folks who haven't yet offered one.

Do you guys download, either legally or illegally? Are you dead against Limewire, Soulseek and Bit Torrent? Are you with Lars Ulrich, hating on the thieves, or are you with Trent Reznor, all giving away shit for free?

Although I'd like to hear from everyone, I'd be especially curious to hear what the musicians and technologists have to say regarding the future of distribution. The focus is music because Radio and Music is the thread's location, but I think the ramifications are far larger.

Some links to get y'all in the mood...
A Disinfo article on Metallica Vs The Fans
Lars Ulrich suggests Metallica could follow Radiohead: "We've been observing Radiohead and Trent Reznor and in 27 years or however long it takes for the next record, we'll be looking forward to everything in terms of possibilities with the Internet."

Does anyone fancy adding their thoughts to the filesharing thread? It's relevant to anyone who has ever listened to music digitally, which I would hazard a guess includes you.

It's topic/28452.

Pic related?
