Grr. The builders were supposed to be here nearly two hours ago to finish fixing my spare room. So I'm stuck here waiting for them. With a new PC that's stayed in its box since it arrived on Tuesday, because I have nowehere to put the bloody thing.

So I'm not at work, but my time off has been a bit shit, really.

It's annoying having to wait for people/deliveries. I take it they haven't phoned to say how long they'll be?

It's not even lunchtime and I'm going space-crazy with boredom. Read my paper, moved my Urban Dead characters around, replied to every thread I'm involved in.

Thankfully the beer festival I'm off to tonight should wash away my woes in a tide of ale and blurred memory.

ooh, a beer festival, which one?
One of the few disadvantages of having moved away from my home town is that I miss out on the annual beer festival. It's great, not just for the beers, but for the beard-spotting opportunities.

Nah, called the landlord and left a message, but nothing. I'm guessing they've forgotten- they were here at ten on the dot every other time. It kind of sucks- I've been on three weeks' holiday from work, but haven't really been able to do much for the last fortnight cos of the bloody ceiling caving in. And if they don't come today, it means they'll be here next week while I'm doing a nightshift, and keeping me awake all day.

Woking, it's staged in the main hall of a leisure centre. Last year was pretty good. The banana beer was weirdly tasty. It's a CAMRA run thing. The plan appears to be to surround a couple of hundred drunks with a large quantity of beer and seranade them with prog-rock.

And if they don't come today, it means they'll be here next week while I'm doing a nightshift, and keeping me awake all day.

Yesh, no chance of crashing on a friend's couch whilst they're doing the work?

That sounds pretty shitty Stoat. I've never had the ceiling collapse on me, though once our slum landlord's DIY plumbing did so to the people below us.
ES: CAMRA ones are the way to go, they definitely have the best beer. As a small bit of trivia I used to work opposite their head offices.

Evil Scientist
10:18 / 11.11.05
Yeah, CAMRA are the mack-daddies of ale. I don't really groove with the specific gravity stuff. But those monkeys know their beverages.

On an aside. We brewed beer as part of my Advanced Microbiology module back in my uni days. That was a chuckle.

I always intended to have another go at it. With my shocking grasp of the evils of science it shouldn't be too difficult. Should it?

Never get involved with an industrial centrifuge people, it'll just end up breaking your heart.

I have such a vexed relationship with that banana beer. It's suprisingly lovely at the time, and feels like such a mistake if one later becomes 'unwell'.

Evil Scientist
10:53 / 11.11.05
Honey beer is my personal nemesis, gives me such a headache come the morning. Must be the pollen riling up my hayfever.

Eep, that sounded like the centrifuge ejecting. It's a harsh, leatherclad mistress.

At work. About to go for Xmas/end of year dinner/leaving do for two staff. Yes, I know it's November. The 11th.

Free booze and uncomfortable socialising with work contemporaries? Or an enjoyable night with like-minded raconteurs?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

Nov 11th? So it is. Best go see if they're selling white poppies up at the shop round the corner.

Why white poppies?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

Pacifism. They didn't have any, though. I was thinking maybe an opium poppy instead.

Evil Scientist

Much more fun. I didn't know you could get white ones. Are they "official"?

No. The cash does go to charity, though.

Evil Scientist

Ooh, nearly the end of a long boring day. Slurp down a cup of tea and then piss off to the gym and blast my energy levels back up with hard rock and endorphins. That should keep me going until tonight.

Tomorrow...steam engines.

What are you going to see Stoatie? (& do you know if the Cthulhu game is available on the PS2)

I cannot let this stand. Evil Scientist, though I do hope one day to be Pinky to your Brain (NARFF!), I would have you know that I am in a deeply-loving and fulfilling relationship with an industrial centrifuge and will not tolerate untoward comments about them. If you persist in this behavior, I will have no choice but to start a thread in Policy wherein we will beat your equipmentism to a bloody pulp. With WORDS.

She spins me right round, baby.

Right round like a record, baby.

I'm bored and annoyed, and I have to work all day tomorrow so no fun beer things for me to try.

Also my blood test yesterday has left me with a large bruise on my arm. How? It was such a painless process.

Marlowe's "Tamburlaine" at the Barbican. A friend's taking me as an early birthday present.

Not sure about the CoC game on the PS2... but it's very good (with reservations- there's stuff in the Survival Horror G&G thread on those).

Marlowe's "Tamburlaine" at the Barbican. A friend's taking me as an early birthday present.

Intellidate.

Pondering the advisability of asking if anyone fancies a pint this evening. Still sleepy from not sleeping at all for most of this week.

I can't, I have to go to a Lucretius reading group.

All these people with stuff to do this evening is depressing me. I have no money and thus an evening in front of the telly with a few cans of cheap german lager beckons unappealingly, like a tramp who wants a hug.

I'm waiting for a release to happen. I have already realised that I have left my phone at home, so it will take me longer to get to London tonight than I first anticipated. I am tempted to leave work now, instead of waiting, just waiting.

Terribly bored, getting less sleep. I love my dog but looking at her I get the idea that she's much happier than I am.... and getting WAY more sleep.

Started taking St John's Wart again in anticipation of the long New England winter.

Going to a con this weekend in New Hampshire which is also a small press thing so I might get to talk to more artists about Zebra and get old JLA comics (when they're not looking).

Hello everyone! I'm listening to Elastica. Blimey, been a while.

Thanks for the 'white poppy' thing, Stoatie - see how my finger is a good mile from the pulse of pacifist culture. Still, that's what I get for joining the army! Ho. Ho.

Sorry, I'm buzzing because I just did my karate training and it's flooded my brain with 'funny' hormones.

I was debating the whole poppy thing with a friend, I always give to the British Legion as while I'm no fan of the Army, it's rarely the poor bugger at the sharp end who's responsible for going to war, and as far as I can see the government's provision for ex-servicemen are pretty poor. My friend was of the opinion that while he agrees with me as far as ex-conscripts go, he's of the opinion that any one who joins up voluntarily gets what they deserve. Anyone else got an opinion on this?

As an aside, I'm just about to hit my 1000th post, should I fritter it away or keep it for a momentous and earth-shattering post?

OK, so next year there are going to be seven omens appearing in various parts of the world - things lika a band of dark angels appearing over Boston, the Virgin Mary reappearing at Fatima, fire from the sky raining down on San Francisco...

So what else? What other omens are happening next year that our psychic has seen taking place?
